Almost always when I have travelled it's more fun and exciting than being at home. Sure I could think that it is nice to come back home but after a day or so I just realise how boring it is.

Is it normal to think that travelling is more fun (even if the destination isn't that exciting) and 'home' is somewhat boring (as you are used to it), or is it a sign that you should get the fuck out and make sure that your home is someplace else?

Travel is exciting.

Its a voluntary activity where you are most likely spending accumulated earnings from a period of work at home.

You have all the power when travelling. You choose where you sleep, what you eat, who you talk to and what you do.

Now, compare that to your average workday, or day of housework.

Do you really expect your home to be as exciting as travel?

If you are bored where you live, move somewhere else. I live in LA, not everyone likes it, but one thing its not is boring.

If you go to some Podunk town and finds that more exciting than home then I do start to question home a little bit.

It depends on your personality aswell.

I'm also not the type of person who really settles easily, i get bored quick of everything in general. I need alot of new impulses all the time.

Is your home boring in the way that you're unhappy?

So how do you get new impulses all the time if you don't move around or travel a lot?

Unhappy? I would say that I need to seek out things that are fun or exciting. Just walking in town, even in the weekend, doesn't really give you an opportunity to find something fun.

Do you have any exciting hobbies? Exciting friends? Know of any house parties?

I suffered from addiction because of the fact that it gave me that dopamine i was looking for. Not a recommended route ofcourse.

I now do alot of calisthenics and yoga. You can do both outdoors and meet people, if the weather allows it ofcourse. Yoga is also a great avenue to meet women.

It kind of sets my mind free.

I'm in the process of starting over abroad, so that gives me something to do now.

If i was living somewhere where there was nothing exciting to do and if i've felt like i've milked it dry and was not satisfied i would look to relocate somewhere else.

To answer OP' question:

Yes it is. Big time. Then again I'm born and grown up in the middle of nothing so I can't compare how it is for the guys who have grown up and spent their whole life in a world class city.

Traveling for me is freedom.
- No duties.
- No unwanted phone calls.
- No guilt for being a bit lazy.

I can do whatever I want, when I want.
Like an escape from all the shit I need to take care of at home.

BUT this could also be all about mindset.
Because I have never associated home with fun or enjoyment.
Maybe because my parents put me to work as soon I could start walking. Hanging out with friends and playing hockey on weekends was not an option. It was only considered as a waste of time, instead I should spend that time deep into the forests pulling logs. And so it went on. Never okay to enjoy, hard work was the only thing that mattered.

As I became a teenager my father got ill and I had to take care of his stuff. During weekends when friends invited me to join them going partying, I had to say no because I had to be home fucking feeding cows and grinding in the forests.
Never any time off.

Home has always been about grinding and working hard. Allowing too much enjoyment has been considered as waste of time and usually ends up in guilt.

Going abroad and travel is like releasing the bird from it's cage.
Then it's alright to enjoy life to the fullest. No regrets and no remorse and no guilt.
I think my relationship with the place called "home" is forever damaged haha.

I think we have a good example of typical Finnish mentality right there haha!

I know most guys here has a different view on this, but this is how it's been for me.
Traveling to me was...another life.

Same.

Home to me is where i make money, grinding hours, structure, routine and discipline.. it's associated in my mind as 'downtime' in life. Where everything follows a rigid routine and to much enjoyment is experienced as guilt.

Travel is the other side of that coin. Pure freedom. It is the closest experience to what i consider real life.

This is a quite a black and white state of mind, one that operates in extremes rather then balance - i'm aware of this and i believe it to be unhealthy in the long term.. but i'm addicted to the extremes, it has to be all or nothing for me. I'm either working hard or living hard.. i get bored with balance. I feel like if i'm going to do something i may as well do it 100%.

Returning home felt like waking up from a dream.. you return to the same place you left and notice nothing has changed, and you wonder 'Did the last 12 months really happen?'

It's like the old grass is greener adage. Somewhere new and exciting is always cooler than where your at.

That said if you live in a boring place then yes there are better places out there. If you live in Nebraska for example there's much cooler places. On the other hand if you live in NYC, Chicago, Florida Keys, somewhere people go for a destination there's obviously some draws there but if you have lived there for a while its all the same.

I used to live in a town with a cool downtown bar district. I'd regularly run into people who drove an hour or more to come party. This blew my mind like really you drove over an hour to come to my corner bar. To someoene else however its a new and exciting place, to me its where I spend every friday night.
