I was alright in high school. Never really went above and beyond to do well. I was an "ABC" student, so to speak.

Now that I'm in college and actually have a path planned out for me and am studying subjects that I care about, I put in more effort.

I debunked every Asian stereotype in high school. I got perfect C- on statistics, pre-calculus and physics. I still graduated two years ago with a 3.5 GPA (B+/A-), but my GPA was saved from English composition, physical education and multimedia production. I was really good at debates and presentations, terrible at filling bubbles.

I sat either in the first or third row, depending on my energy, and spewed random questions at my teachers to get them off topic.

In biology, we learned about Gregor Mendel and his pea pod genetics. I threw a random tangent about Monsanto and modified plants. I asked, "What if we could feed those poor, starving African children?" The SJW, gluten-free whale spent an hour and half giving the generic liberal rant, about how those "greedy, heartless corporations" are white privilege. I'm a proud San Franciscan product, so I guess repeating liberal chants was enough to graduate.

Mission accomplished.

The valedictorian of the class ended up going to Stanford for a year, riding like a 4.3 GPA. Last time I heard, she dropped out and became a seedy tattoo artist. The second place, a girl friend of mine, she's 21 and entering dental school in the fall.

How did I turn out? Well, I'm here. That's not bad. My father likes to optimistically say, " You will never be poor. The United States is worth negative $18,000,000,000,000. How does it feel to be richer than your whole country?"

Went to three different high schools and coasted in all of them. Rarely getting anything other than A's or B's and generally being bored with most classes. The AP classes I did take the teachers actually did seem to care about students learning how to learn rather than regurgitate. Learning quickly that making friends and playing sports goes pretty much hand in hand I spent my free time after schools doing whatever sport seemed interesting during that season.

barely graduated high school. My GPA was about 2.1 but I almost failed several classes necessary to graduate, and the only reason I wasn't expelled my senior year is that certain teachers looked the other way. One story that kind of sums up my approach. I was failing Trigonometry, even though it was one of my favorite subjects. I just wasn't doing homework, or I'd do half of an assignment, get bored and stop, and turn nothing in. About a week before the final I figured it's now or never so I calculated what score I had to get on the final to pass the class. If I got a 96% on the final I'd end with a C---. I studied a little bit but mostly just got pumped for the test, like it was an event. Got a 99% on the test.

It was important for me to pass that class because I was motivated to take Calculus my senior year. Then I changed my mind and ended up taking two gym classes and zero math or science my senior year.

after high school I worked several no-end jobs. I had no connections, and mediocre social skills, so I couldn't crack that "who you know" angle. Had fun with it, and smoked a lot of pot, but I figured out pretty quick it wasn't something I wanted to do the rest of my life.

That's how I ended up in college, no scholarships, no college savings to draw from. I just treated college like a job... took out student loans but lived poor so they didn't add up. Every day showed up on campus at 8 AM, out the doors at 5PM, sometimes later... the whole time I was either in class, studying, or doing homework. Like a job. Graduated in 4.5 years with a BS Civil Engineering and 3.8 GPA

Aced my way through highschool at the top of my class, got a free ride to a nice local university with a good STEM program and graduated at the top of my college. Bounced around the country picking up good experience. Sooner or later I'll leverage that for more than a good salary.

My first real world experiences outside of academics forced me to understand the limits of my book smarts. Fortunately, I was willing to learn instead of fighting to preserve my own ignorance. I've seen that a lot.

Wasn't great at high school, did a lot of skipping school and being stoned all day in class from year 9 onwards, and got in a bit of trouble so plenty of suspensions here and there. Lots of missed homework, late assignments, I rarely ever studied, etc, etc. I still got above average marks though not excellent marks. Also I was in an accelerated program - doing 'advanced' everything for year 7, 8, 9, skip year 10 and straight into year 11, then year 12 twice (the idea being we get more subjects to draw our enter score from - the way it works in Victoria, Australia) but the learning material was still fairly mind-numbing.

I didn't like high school much at all, aside from having a good crew to smoke/cause shenanigans with and get wasted on the weekends - and some of us are still an extremely close-knit group 7 years on.

I was a great student in high school and college, and went on to attain a professional degree. Unfortunately it's counted for very little in attracting the women I approach. Being a "smart kid" was a core part of my young identity; it was my life. Looking back now it seems like another world. It is completely gone from me.

Valedictorian.
Considered top of my class (top 5%).

Did not work hard in highschool. That changed in the University, where I had to work hard to be a -B student in Electrical Engineering.
Went to the Signal corps and became a Major. Left because I realized I would not make Lt. Colonel easily.

Worked in the telecom industry as project manager, sales support and product manager.
Only in the recent years I have discovered entrepreneurship and working as a consultant, trying to create new ventures.

As Royssi stated in one of his maxims (#37) -

I find it almost impossible to do something that I know will be of no use to me in the future.

I only ever did as much as I needed to get that pass unless it was something I wanted to do.
Took me two extra years to finish my degree (STEM field).

It was a result of bullshit education system. Group work, boring topics, stupid meaningless pretend projects.

Then the final year at college we're given a whole year to complete a project of our choosing by ourselves. It's supposed to be the hardest part and many of the top "on paper" students fail terribly, but I had been looking forward to it for years.

When I had my first project proposal meeting with my mentors I could tell they thought I was dreaming and said "you need to close the project scope down, this project is far too big". And it was true, for the average student.

I learned more in that one year by myself than the previous 4 years combined. I sourced parts from China, Germany and USA, designed a complex vehicle control system from the ground up, coded software, designed circuit boards, installed in vehicle, built a test rig and presented my results in a killer presentation. My lecturers were surprised and I got top marks.

I realised early on that I wanted to work for myself, and therefore good marks in a degree is not worth the effort. It's like getting a degree in entrepreneurship - who are you handing your CV to?

When I'm looking through CVs for people to hire, education and grades will be taken with a grain of salt.

How many of you guys were the naive optimistic nice guy? I remember thinking the sexual revolution was a good thing if it meant everyone was having more sex and voted for Hillary back in 2008.

Still cannot believe where i came from. Some dark dark days. I used to value my optimism and acceptance of everyone. Now, i find that it was the root of most of my problems growing up. Realism and experience are far more valuable to me now.

My educational 'career' went on a downward slope ever since I graduated middle school. I was actually in the top 1% of my middle school and then I made it into the top high school in my city (only about 800 out of 30,000 applicants were accepted). There would be a 4 hour round-trip commute to and from school everyday.


The commute was a killer and classes were super boring (I just couldn't see real world application for most of them, only science, language and history). I was in danger of being left back but I finally focused a little Senior year and made up enough classes (mostly math, drafting and art) to graduate on time. In all seriousness, of the graduating class of 780 or so, my GPA was in the bottom 1%.

I got into a college with a similar commute and unsurprisingly my problems with school continued. During this dark time, I discovered the rooshv site and forum. After immersing myself in new knowledge, I dropped out to pursue a better prospects overseas. It worked out and years later, here I am.

I got great grades (3.75ish range) until my junior year when I joined a regularly gigging band of college-aged guys. We'd play 3, sometimes 4 nights a week. I had an open bar tab at 16 at most bars we played. I could just barely grow a beard at that age so always wore a scruff and duped most the bar owners into thinking I was young 20s.

All it takes is a few grade cards of Cs to drop that 3.75 GPA down to a 2.6. I actually was in such a haze the last 2 years of high school I though I graduated with a 3.1 cumulative GPA or something. When I got my transcripts for the last college class I took, I bombed it down to a 2.6 and didn't even remember. It was clear when I started Pre-Calc Junior year got a B- first quarter, and a D the 2nd.. then dropped the class. I did however take Calc and Business Statistics in college and aced them both years later.

My main girlfriend in high school had a 4.1 or something, with honors classes allowing her to exceed a 4.0. She was always nearly the valedictorian each year, coming in 2nd or 3rd behind them. She had zero common sense however... naturally she was with me. Haha.

I barely turned up for most of high school, but coasted through with A's and B's.

School was a waste of time to me and mots of it just made me bored.

However I did learn how to make bank there quite young as well as how to hustle on the street.

I also went to an all-boys high school. I was a good student (B's, occasional A) despite putting in little effort. I was VERY unmotivated in High School - it offered me nothing but rules. This is surprising; an all-boys catholic prep school COULD be a haven for boys, could have had some tough old religious leaders who talked straight and molded us into men. And there were a few like that. That's probably how these schools were 25 yrs before. But sadly, by the time i got there, they were outnumbered by lay teachers (including a SHOCKING number of 20-something women teachers who knew nothing about teaching teenage boys...they were just machines that were perfectly adapted to demotivate the average 16 yr old boy). And that's what happened to me: Study biology for that annoying Yugoslavian teacher? Yeah, right. Study chemistry for that short-haired butch chem teacher? Nah. The older religious teachers were good - they'd joke with us, scare us into behaving well. I enjoyed them. But the younger religious teachers, sad to say, were all too often faggots.

All in all, I feel my expensive private school education was an opportunity lost. I hope that today there are more schools for BOYS to be molded BY men INTO men.

So I was basically an average student. I never got the honor roll or anything like that. I do think I had prefect attendance one time for the whole year. I would do good in the History or geography courses but I would stink it up in the math courses. I have no clue how I graduated. I didn't go to college until 3 years after I graduated as I wanted to join the marines. I didn't think I was capable of college since I was such an average student. Once in college I absolutely destroyed, 4.0 GPA out the gecko and I ended up with scholarships. Sometimes its really just motivation. My 7th grade teacher would always say "There are no dumb people, just lazy people."

I also was not very good with girls in high school either. You realize later on that the girls or the guys who thought they were hot shit in high school, aren't anything anymore afterwards. I remember there was this one girl from high school who thought she was THAT chick. She ain't shit anymore and now has 5 kids and is fat as hell.

In regards to over educating or under educating your kids, I remember talking about this with a girl from China. She said that she wished she was given more freedom and less pressure from her parents because she had no life. At the same time I've met people who wished their parents would have pushed them more and be more involved in their studies. I've heard both sides of the coin.

I was a good student in both High School and University. I got a scholarship to the best private school in my area (although I grew up in a rural area so it wasn't as good as the top city private schools) and graduated towards the top of my class.
I went on to study Electrical Engineering at one of the best universities in the country and graduated with first class honours and the award for best final year project.
Now I work for one of the biggest engineering companies in the world.

However I was your typical high school nerd, short, skinny and didn't play the cool sports. Spent my lunch times reading, playing computer games or magic the gathering.
Reinvented myself after high school and became slightly red pill, hitting the gym, being confident, dressing better. Didn't have an understanding of game though and went into a 7.5 year LTR from second year of university.
Came out of that almost a year ago and here I am.

I failed an English class. I had to make it up during summer school and barely passed that. Ironically, in that same English class we had to do a movie review that was based on a book one time. I got the highest grade on that assignment, the only person to get a perfect 100%. I did mine on "A Clockwork Orange".

I used to take my classical guitar to my Physics class and give my Physics teacher lessons.

I took an art class and drew comic girls with huge tits.

Senior year I'd ditch class as much as possible to go home and get stoned and drunk and listen to Beethoven.

I somehow got into AP English either my Freshman or Sophomore year. We had to create a notebook of everything we learned, all of our assignments compiled and organized (at least half of which I'd lost or never completed), and the last section was titled, "Reflections". I drew a shitty caricature of my English teacher with flies buzzing around him and giant buck teeth with the headline, "It's a Reflection, get it?" He specifically pointed out to me that I got the lowest grade in the class, a D-

Age 6-11 I was a little bastard according to my mother and any female I came across who couldn't control my tendencies to upset the girls. Yes I was that kind of kid. Got into some fights here and there and trouble with the local dickheads where I lived.

I grew out of it but academically I just switched off or became bored. Still went to University and learned that I could have done it in two years or less.

The number of useless "core" subjects for my degree I was not interested in and those which I was interested in was ridiculous. In the end I got bored mid-way through my second year and my third year was just having a laugh, playing games and coasting.

I am a firm believer that tests, exams and strict rigorous brain numbing bullshit lecturing is the one true way for many people like myself to fail at something they could wipe the floor on if learned through practical means.

I learned more outside of my degree on simple jobs on-site than I did in the classroom. Experience really does take a big wet dump on learning from books.

The point of my highschool career, for me, was to play cricket - I toured and played 5 matches in India when I was 16, so I did a pretty decent job of that I guess

Couldn't have given less fucks about most of my other classes. I don't think I completed a single assignment from year 10-12. I still vividly remember seeing the teacher of my next class walking past me at lunchtime and immediately running upstairs, running to my locker and shoving drum sticks down my throat so I could make myself sick and go home rather than giving a presentation I had completely forgotten even existed, which was on a movie I hadn't watched. I had to give the presentation the next day. Still haven't watched that movie..

Most teachers hated me - I was one of the few "gifted" students they had, except I gave 0 shits about school and actively opposed and criticised many teachers on their views and knowledge on a regular basis. Some of the better teachers liked me 'cause they figured I was smart enough that they could just leave me to my own devices and I'd find my own ways to amuse myself

I discovered early that the vast majority of students at my school were completely fucking retarded, so I kinda just took to hanging out with the cricketers, musos and the more interesting weirdos. It didn't really keep me out of trouble, but it certainly helped me get away with a lot more. I mostly kept out of fights, but sometimes you just can't resist a big ol' brawl. I spent most of my time either playing cricket, jamming in the music room, or in the gym in the later years - until it got discovered and started getting flooded with people

Never got expelled. Had about 2.5 sick days through my 5 years of high school. Graduated in the top few % of my year group.

I was a horrible student.

I was strictly middle of the pack academically. Sometimes I would make the honor roll through blind stupid luck. I got a thoroughly mediocre SAT score due to having to work early that morning, bad weather, and having a general "I don't care" attitude. However, I did well in college managing to graduate Magna Cum Laude. I believe it's the fact I paid for college on my own and didn't rely on my parents' financial support that motivated me. When it's your own money on the line, you're not going to waste it partying or being a knucklehead.
