Seems from watching the TVC, if you're male these days, you need not be nominated for being Australian Of The Year.

I'm disturbed by this big time. The only way it could be more blatant is by a banner running across the video saying "Aussie Men. Get Fucked."

Early this year, Blair Naso highlighted the hypocrisy & narcissism of last year's "winner" Rose Batty in his ROK piece Is Rosie Batty Using Her Own Childs Death For Her Own Fame & Fortune. Ever the moderate realist, there was a part of me that thought we would get back on track to recognise actually honourable Australians in 2016. It would seem I have egg on my face, again.

The more I think about it the more I can't get my head around just how blatantly this 'Women good/Men bad" agenda is being pushed. They now have no shame about their message whatsoever it would seem, analogous as it would be to Rollo's assertion of Open Hypergamy.

Fuck I can't wait to leave this country. It's a great motivator to get your house in order, stack some cash & leave the white knights alone to fight it out amongst each other for the rim of the bucket.

I think this is a good think. The more blatant they become the faster the majority turns against them. We have to reach peak feminism for it to burn to the ground.

This TVC is a call for nominations. No doubt, some men will be nominated. Somehow, we still seem to get shit done despite all the paying, raping, patriarching, glass-ceiling reinforcing, harassing, man spreading & general gap filling we do on a daily basis to make the cogs turn for society.

The point I'm making is about the TVC itself. Watch it & tell me you don't see it.

I ask because there seems to be a clear region of origin, and I can't think what else connects the Anglo world and Northern Europe.
These were also the first areas to grant women voting rights.

By rights, a frontier area like Australia should be more culturally like the rural American Midwest. It's strange to see them so fussy.
But if we draw a distinction between puritan-inspired protestantism and the more relaxed variety, we see it's what Southeast England, Australia, Scandinavia and New England have in common.
The attitude lives on after the prayers stop.

We never really had the Puritans out here. The Establishment in Australia has always been solid Church of England (what you Yanks call "Episcopalian" as I understand it) with the underclass made up of a bunch of Irish Catholics. Unlike America we never threw off our convict chains, we just waited a hundred and fifty years or so until the English basically said "It's too fucking hot out here, let's get back to fucking Blighty" and left us behind to fend for ourselves (having already chewed up our brightest and best in World War One and threatening to leave us defenceless against the Japanese in World War Two.)

About the closest analogue you can get for how we are culturally is basically the most English parts of Canada. We were always pretty close to the English apron strings and they left us with a massive cultural inferiority complex that we were just a bunch of uncouth savages on the arse end of nowhere who would never produce anything of particular interest on our own. Robert Menzies, the Australian PM for a good part of the late forties and mid-fifties, was popularly termed "British to the Bootstraps" and set the tone for the country's identity crisis well into the seventies or so.

Because we're more or less descended from an underclass of convicts and resting on primary and a few pissy little secondary industries, labour unions got a strong foothold here fairly early on. Australia was literally the first place in the world that a Labor Party actually formed a government. That left us with a predisposition for leftie crowdthink ideas, although in our defence we did have one genuine revolt against the British over gold rights in the 1850s or so - some Americans here prospecting for gold actually fought in that one, including a black guy who was surprisingly acquitted by an all-white jury for rebellion. Indeed universal suffrage came out of that rebellion and women rode along on lower class men's ragged coattails to be given the vote. For all our bullshit otherwise, we just don't have the same independent streak that a lot of Americans seem to have.
