What Coca Cola does to your body in 1 Hour
[Image: 1haftercoke.jpg]

Quote:Something that I noticed when working as a pharmacist was why people would still gain weight even though they were following a strict low fat diet recommended to them by their doctor.

This made me question whether it is really the ‘fat’ that causes us to gain unhealthy weight.

After seeing so many people suffering from obesity related diseases like heart disease, diabetes and the side effects of the medication they were taking, I was strongly motivated to research what actually causes people to become obese, it clearly was not just the fat they were eating!

I actually discovered that a trigger factor for many widespread diseases of the west such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes could be closely linked to the consumption of one particular substance found in many processed foods and drinks – fructose in the form of high fructose corn syrup.

Fructose is the form of high fructose corn syrup is found in pretty much all processed foods such as ready meals, fast foods, sweets and fizzy drinks and most people are totally unaware of its danger.

It is also often found in ‘low fat’ supposedly healthy alternatives and even many popular weight loss products because food with the fat taken out simply tastes horrible. High fructose corn syrup in combination with many other additives are usually added to enhance the flavor.

Glucose is the type of sugar our body loves. It gets metabolized by every cell in our body and is very easy to burn with very few toxic by-products. It also tells the brain to stop eating when you are full.

Fructose on the other hand is another type of sugar and is found in sucrose which breaks down to glucose and fructose.

Fructose is actually only metabolized by the liver and it’s very similar to ethanol (the alcohol in drinks). When you consume it, it’s actually like ethanol but without the high. It confuses the liver and ends up making lots of bad fats in the process. It also doesn’t signal your brain that you are full. This is why people can drink massive cups of fizzy drinks which are high in fructose and still eat huge meals containing refined foods that are also full of fructose.

Many fruits also contain fructose, but nature has provided the antidote, as these fruits are also packed with fibre which prevents your body from absorbing too much of it.

When I advised people to reduce their consumption of high fructose corn syrup by eating lower carb/higher protein diets free from processed foods, even if they say they are healthy options, they started to lose weight and feel much better as a result.

In many cases I asked people to just stop their consumption of fizzy drinks like Coca Cola and instead swap it with either plain water, or add some freshly squeezed lemon for flavor.

Green tea is also a great alternative, and it is one of my personal favorites because it contains alpha wave stimulating theanine that also double serves as an antidote to the harmful effects of caffeine.

Those who loved to drink tea and coffee sweetened with lots of sugar, I advised to swap with natural sweeteners like stevia instead. This alone had some remarkable results.

There are 1.6 billion servings of Coke sold each day worldwide!! A very significant percentage of that is through supermarket chains like WALMART.

Wait a minute? What about Mexican made Coca-Cola? It's sweetened with real sugar, not syrup.

1. Sugar isn't inherently bad. Especially not if you are an active individual. If you are sedentary you should definitely avoid sugar. (Different things happen in your body if you exercise or not) Yes high fructose corn syrup should be avoided. However one can a day of coke won't matter. A banana also has 30g of sugar. In my current diet I eat 200g of sugar a day, just because I have to hit 4000kcal somehow. I get my bloodwork done every 6 months and it's spot on.

2. Sugar doesn't just get turned into fat. That's not how it works. First your body is gonna try and fill up glycogen stores again. And if those are full then it might get converted into fat. (Like I said above if you are fat and sedentary, chances are your glycogen stores might be full and it'll get converted into body fat.)
http://www.livestrong.com/article/408673...-into-fat/

4. Sure, dopamine production is started. But comparing that to heroin? Dopamin production is also increased during sex, every kind of sport, weightlifting, etc. It's quite a jump to go from drinking a can of coke that'll produce a tiny bit of dopamine (I for example don't feel anything, some people might feel a lot) to heroin which will have a pretty damn strong dopamine response in everyone.

5-7. might also not quite be the truth but I don't have enough knowledge on that part to comment.

I'm not advocating drinking coke, but he makes it sound a lot worse.

Ay - yes - while white sugar can be somewhat unhealthy, they used the sentence of "low-fat" diet that shows you who wrote that stuff. A restrictive, nutrient-deficient diet will only bring you early onset Alzheimers and other diseases. Every bloody Catholic pope quickly becomes sick, because he suddenly adheres to the advice of the "best" doctors and nutritionists.

Our brain runs on glucose, sugar intake is necessary, natural and combined with fruits and natural starch is not so bad. I have a friend who I helped to lose weight fast. He takes in about 120g of sugar every day, plus 230g of pure carbs, full dose of protein and Omega 3 fats. Currently he loses about 22 pounds per month while not even being hungry. Of course he takes plenty of supplements and has all vitamins, minerals and other nutrients completely filled. That's why he can survive happily on 1600 calories on average while burning 2500 to 4000 calories every day.

And the best part is that he drinks some coke, has sometimes sweets, even a pizza once in a while and still loses that much.

And yes - sugar and caffeine flush out magnesium, calcium and zinc out of your body, so high doses of supplements of those nutrients are necessary, but we should all take those supplements anyway extra:

Magnesium: 300-400mg extra
Calcium: 1000mg only high quality
Zinc: 50-100mg as a man

Then you can drink some coke as long as it does not have artificial deadly sweeteners or glucose fructose syrup in it (in some countries Coca Cola is not even offered with normal sugar, but in many it is). Of course you cannot overdo it, because 2l of coke has almost 800 calories and you cannot live off that. It will just make you more nutrient deficient and has plenty of empty calories.

I'm sure there is a lot inside a Coke can that does worse to you than sugar.

What Tresdus mentioned is spot on: sugar, in sensible portions, is not that bad for you, IF you are an active individual.

So I can water it down and it will go well with popcorn?

Even though I only drink a soda (we call it pop) maybe 10 times a year (besides mixed drinks)...Coke is delicious.

I like the post, but I wonder if they stepped through what eating a 16 ounce steak would do in an hour would look like. Seems like for most mammals, ingestion and digestion is probably an eventful process for the body.

http://examine.com/topics/Diet+Soda/

There are sources that say sodas aren't bad and sources that say sodas will kill you. I've spent a lot of time on these internets reading about nutrition and the only consistent thing I've found is there is no consistency.

One source says eat fruit and another says avoid fruit because too much sugar. Once source says red meat will kill you and another says steak & eggs for every meal. The US FDA says eat bread and cereal and Paleo says the FDA is a bunch of liars. A lot of people say that a half dozen whole eggs per week will cause cholesterol problems but others say you can eat a dozen per day if you workout and don't have too much sugar in your diet. Nothing is consistent and there is a source out there to support every opinion.

So I'm just going to parrot what I've heard Elliott Hulse say - try that shit out for yourself.

Drink a big coke one morning and in the afternoon:
-hit the weights hard - how does your body feel?
-read a book - how well can you concentrate?
-run a 10k - how does your body feel?
-meditate - how well can you control your thoughts?

Go through the same process with diet coke and red bull and coffee and water and fresh vegetable juice and fresh lemon juice. What happens?

So all I can do is share my opinions which are that sodas are terrible, caffeine is a lot stronger than most people think but they don't realize it because they have become desensitized to it, water is vital, and fresh green juice and lemon juice can be like rocket fuel for the body and mind without any negative side effects. But try that shit out for yourself and see how it goes for you. I'm sure some people will get different results.

My personal experience would support this. I've done the Master Cleanse - 10 days of nothing but water mixed with lemon juice and organic maple syrup so most calories are coming from the natural sugar in the maple syrup. I felt great and needed less sleep. I also worked out 7 of the 10 days which was mostly endurance training.

However, I've also sugar crashed after eating a single banana.

I don't know the answer to this sugar riddle but it seems complex and my guesses are that there is a difference between natural and processed sugars and the body's reaction to sugar is very dependent on the other foods being eaten and how much physical activity is taking place.

Sugar is bad for you in high amounts, but small amounts now and then won't harm you, especially if you're not a lazy fuck. Even if you are, just drink less than a can per day. Nothing other than water should be constituting more than a small amount of your liquids intake per day anyway.

As for caffeine, I think that's bullshit. If that was true, then pretty much everyone who drank any coffee (which has 3-4x that amount in every cup) would be a walking corpse.

I don't care what anyone says, I've been drinking 2l of milk a days for the last 4 years. That's an additional 1200kcal I'd have to eat if I didn't drink that and I'm already eating every fucking hour of the day.
