Do you know a good toast?
Whenever I crack open a bottle of wine with someone or drinks go around with buddies, everyone's in high spirits, as well they should be. And then, glasses full, we look at each other like wall-eyed idiots. Huh

Because nobody knows a good toast.

So what are some toasts that worked for you guys? Here's one that I liked from James Bond (w/ link):

"Per ora, e per il momento che verra."

To this moment, and the moment yet to come.

Cheers!

I just say "Nazdravlje" ("To your health"). Saying something more complicated would feel corny, unless we really were celebrating something huge and rare.

The Strange Eagle
Once upon a time, at a village high up in the georgian mountains there lived a strange eagle. Every day, the eagle flew high up in the skies and every day it threw itself down on to the bare ground with it´s naked bottom.
And all the people were wondering, why is it that this strange eagle every day flies high up in the skies and then throws itself down on to the bare ground with its naked bottom. The people didn´t know why and one day they lost their patience and the went to the eagle and they asked:
- O Dear Strange Eagle, why is it that every day you fly high up in the skies and then throws yourself down on to the bare ground with your naked bottom?
And the eagle said:
- O Dear People, it must be difficult for you to understand why every day, I fly high up in the skies and then throws myself down on to the bare ground with my naked bottom. It is because I have no friends!

So let us drink to friendship!

And another, shorter one:

Desires and Opportunities
Listen dear!
I could buy a goat.
But I don´t want to.
But I want so much to buy a car!
But I can not!

So let´s drink so that our desires always will coincide with our opportunities!

A main, à bouche, à cul.

Translation: in the hand, in the mouth, towards the ass.

At "à main" you take your drink, at "à bouche" you bring it to your lips and at "à cul" you empty it.

RE: Do you know a good toast?
I usually just freestyle a toast depending on the company and what we're doing. If we're celebrating, I toast to whatever we're celebrating. Its nothing pre-made or canned, but something like "This one is for Jimmy, the baddest motherfucker in this bar" or something like that. Sometimes I toast to the bitches.

I also use "Kampai" or "na zdorovje" when it doesn't warrant a custom toast.

RE: Do you know a good toast?
I've found one that seems to be germane to virtually every special or not so special occasion, whether it be boss' birthday, going out with friends, or celebrating a colleague's successful deal.

I begin with a hearty, exuberant "To the Glory of Fast Eddie", followed a half a beat later with a softer, more thoughtful and profound "the Great glory of Fast Eddie".

Sets the right mood every time.

RE: Do you know a good toast?
Toasting is a lost yet manly ritual. Having a toast to honor someone or something is awesome when ritualized and really brings out genuine feelings of camaraderie if you're not too cool to let it. Some excellent and manful poetry came out of the WW2 era and seems to have died along with the memory of that war.

http://www.mcu.usmc.mil/historydivision/...Night.aspx

Make it a bumper, comrades,
And each one standing here
Can whisper soft above his glass
The name he holds most dear.

Most of our most profound traditions came out of pure conflict. Having the widespread peace and general feminization of American culture is the reason most of the toasts above are from outside the U.S.

"Tales are told of nights of revelry, when the wine flowed and souls of great men, freed from the cares of state, allowed their with and spirit to soar unhampered while gracing the officers’ mess beneath the beams of the old house. The rafters which once rang with the laughter of Presidents now lie in grim disorder…"

It's too bad most men today see toasting as something you do at a bar before getting fucked up on shots of tequila. I see girls doing the 'Slaud' bullshit all the time in plastic tiaras and prom queen sashes which is pretty funny considering the history of toasting is something traditionally done by men in wartime.
