Hello there

I'm keen to set up an online account and start investing. This is what I'm looking for:

-the website/platform should be easy to use for a first timer
-low fees
-wide range of products, e.g. equity/fixed income index funds, REITs
-I'm looking to do passive investing, not day trading
-I don't live in the USA; am currently residing in a non-tax jurisdiction (I don't know if this matters or not)

Any suggestions please on which platform/website to use??

Also a question; let's say if I decide to close out and sell everything in x years, can the money just be transferred to my account in another country or would I be liable to pay tax? Would it make a difference if I use a US based platform and my bank account is in the UK, or if I use a bank account in a place like Dubai or Singapore?? I would just like to avoid any capital gains tax.

Use one in your country of citizenship.

Other than it the platform matters less than the quality of the broker providing it. For long term investing all of them will let you buy/sell equity stakes in companies and funds.

For you living in a "non tax jurisdiction", what matters is if that's your address on a semi permanent basis. If you're working there for a contract no big deal. use your address of record. If you are living there permanently then the licensing requirements for the broker can be complicated.
