Most people have switched their focus on China and SEA to hop on the latest bandwagon. Your average young westerner in business or finance sees little to no opportunity in Japan when looking to Asia to make money.

Check the stats. Visitors to Japan from Europe and North America have doubled in the last 5 years. That makes a huge difference. Also, the number of tourists from China and the rest of Asia has increased even more, that has made many Japanese resentful of the throngs of foreigners on their streets. Add to that the smartphone culture and the fact that Japan has gone "asexual" in the last decade - with even local guys not being able to get a date - and it's no surprise that clumsy daygamers approaching girls in English are not getting a warm welcome these days.

I have literately never seen the obese animu nerd meme guys in Tokyo, but then again I never go to Akihabara. I mostly see average to good looking normal western guys in Tokyo that aren't getting any due to the language and culture barrier, which makes literally any western guy socially awkward to begin.

In first tier cities of China I largely see guys of average looks at best with below average personalities and below average looking western girls that couldn't latch onto any guy in the west. Who else puts up with a toxic environment of severe pollution and a zero trust society?

SEA is white trash tier western people for the most part.

I definitely see a lot of foreigners here, especially in Roppongi. The girls also speak really good English, so it is clear they get a lot of interaction with foreigners. I am trying to figure out if they learned English to increase their value to foreigners or not. In the country city though, I still feel a certain white god factor but the English is nonexistent. So it is hard to tell if English speaking ability is valuable or not.

And yeah most foreign guys here aren't fat, and if they are they have a fat girlfriend with them.

met an older japanese thot online in her early 30s. she works in tokyo, has her own place. cute enough to smash it once or twice, but normally i don't go for older lizards.

i'm thinking of how i can subtly ease my way into crashing at her place for free while i visit tokyo for sightseeing and maybe using her place for chasing after other girls while she at work, since the city is so expensive now. lol has anyone done this before?

Chances are it is not happening. She would expect you to take her to your place or to a love hotel. They have love hotels everywhere for a reason.

I have been to two women's place so far. One of them was my ex-girlfriend's in Tokyo. The other one was in another city, an SNL's place. Both had studios less than 25 square meters, and my girlfriend was earning an above-average salary.

I'm heading to Tokyo in mid-dec for two and half weeks. What's the most affordable way to get accomodation outside of AirBnB? Or is AirBnB it for short-term stay.

Also which do you recommend out of Shibuya/Shinjuku or Roppongi?

Budget isn't a constraint but obviously want to get the most bang for my buck.

For your sanity I would get your own place. Your logistics will make it difficult to meet others or as you please. Yes even though you can always take ONS to love hotels not having your own place will put a big damper on you, especially in Tokyo where you can't go anywhere without being surrounded by people.

Define affordable in Tokyo. For solo rooms outside of AirBnB i did some 3 star hotels for $100/ night in decent locations. Shibuya/Shinjuku will probably be more expensive. Thanks, might have a look at hotels and check out Shinjuku then. I was budgeting for 300AUD per night which is about 200USD. Heard somewhere AirBnB isn't necessarily the best place to look hence seeing what the local knowledge was.

Btw, if you don't mind me asking what are the venues you would recommend in Roppongi/shibuya/shinjuku (i know theres a list in this thread - but looking for something more uptodate knowledge).

I am not too sure I didn't stay very long in Tokyo due to the aforementioned hotel costs. I will just tell which clubs I experienced. I honestly wish I had more information, but the posts here have been sparse about Tokyo club game lately, so none of us are really up to date it seems.

I used to live there until 3-4 years ago, but I'm considering moving there again or a few other potential places within a month.

When I lived there before I mostly just built up to 4-6 regular girls to date/sleep with ongoing but it definitely took time. For me Japan never felt like too much of a ONS place so I never treated it too much that way.

I noticed a news article recently showing the stats of tourism to Tokyo and also foreign students and workers and it's ridiculous how fast the graph has went up since 2015. For a decade it was just under 10 million tourists a year but now it's into the 30 million tourists a year. I also have a fair amount of obscure Japan chat apps from before and they used to be 99% Japanese but now I've noticed there are way more Spanish/Latin, Ukrainian, Russian, Viets, Filipinos, Thai, Indos, etc., and especially "halfs" than there used to be. I'm not sure if this is a net positive or negative, all things considered.

So I'm just wondering how you guys are finding it these days. Is it too tapped out with gaijin already? Still having a lot of fun?

I was there in December and won't be back anytime soon.

Loads of foreigners everywhere now. Japanese convenience store workers are getting replaced with South East Asians and it's easier than ever for these people to come to Japan.

Most clubs are 50% foreigners by now I'd say and you're better off gaming the occasional western looker than trying your luck with weary j-girls going yada on you.

Given how uncomfortable most Japanese people are with foreigners there will either be a nationalist backlash at some point and they'll close up the country again or Tokyo will be considered "ruined" by foreigners by Japanese standards.

Whatever exotic value westerners had 10 years ago is definitely not there anymore unless you head outside of Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama.

I think it's never a good idea to run soley on foreigner status. Foreigner status, like in almost all places, is going south. Unfortunately, Japanese language is so difficult that one has to rely a couple of years on foreigner status to get the ball rolling. This and the massive upcoming demographic changes holding me back from moving there.

If I could choose between Tokyo and Osaka, I would always go with the latter.

Work of art. Great read. I agree Fukuoka stunning place. I had a few stints there and (sadly) rarely spent a lot of time in Roppongi but it was wild when I did. Had some good success around Tachikawa and the expat scene there (about 40 min away from Shibuya) on the Chuo line with J Girls and horny white girls. Normally the American military can skew things a bit with their pack douche mentality but they were back on base by midnight for most part.

I think spoken Japanese is fairly easy to learn for a western person compared to Chinese. Cultural norms and expectations on the other hand can take forever and a half to adapt to and most adult immigrants to any country never bother to assimilate completely.

Osaka has more of a blue collar working class vibe and people are more chill but women much less open to westerners than in Tokyo in my experience.

So update on that Saturday night - Japan is tough.

• Went to Brewdog for 8.30pm 1 drink – 1 failed conversation with the only other dude at the bar (everyone else sat down with mostly food – cba to approach tables)
• Hit this other bar that turns out to be dry (probs too early), game some girl who works there for 1 pint and get her insta (its so quiet she doesn’t have an issue pulling up a chair)
• Hit Jumanji55 – ratios are like 7:1 and some dude shoulder barges me in the queue at the bar. Some kiwi dude I’ve made friends with asks me if I want to kick off but I decide I can’t be bothered to fight over a position in a bar queue.
• Make friends with 3 other random dudes in the bar to increase my vibe and social proof, 1 local Japanese and 2 african dudes – there is a severe shortage of women.
• Start macking on one of the few girls in the bar – some Thai milf 5.5 who’s like 40 – get her facebook. It’s a solid backup so I head off to the next club to upgrade.
• Head to Oak 1 nightclub – meet some legend at the bar. Some Texan guy who claims to be 5 time world bull riding champion and only has one nut (the other got crushed by a bull). I estimate his net worth in the millions as he has a personal assistant with him at the club and when I ask him how much his japan trip cost he said $25-30k for the month, everything sorted out for him. I’m normally sceptical but I believe him and he buys me a beer.
• I proceed to open about 6 Japanese sets and get blown out on every 1 apart from one where i pick up a facebook (it's flakey though and dies out fast)
• Open some mixed Japanese girl and it’s going well but her friend just drags her off without warning.
• Night ends at 5am with me empty handed at club closing

2 days later I bang the Thai milf - Still looking for that elusive Japanese flag though and some better night out locations.

Ok Japan RVFers – I need some help on this one.

Bit about me - In my late 20's, quit a 6 figure job in London to travel East Asia last year (pretty much the storyline to a Dead Bat in Paraguay but SEA instead of SA). Starting late last year I've visited 6 countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines and now Japan) and have pretty easily captured the flag at every one (and a load of other countries given the diversity of the backpacking community) until now.

Having travelled to Japan, I’ve found it somewhat challenging. I have the fighting spirit, but this I fear, will not be enough to guarantee victory in the land of the rising sun.

I would like to draw on the collective knowledge of the community to understand:

1. What the best nightlife spots are as of 2019
(Whilst TJs original post was gold, the nightlife has changed a lot in 3 years) – I’ve combed through all 10 pages of the swoop Japan post and run a search on “Tokyo” for forum posts but can’t find anything up to date. Japanese hostel staff recommendations have proven useless.

2. If any bros want to link up at any point between 08/03 to 11/03 and catch a beer, trade war stories etc PM me.

Since my last post I’ve taken 2 weeks off to sightsee given family have come out for a couple of weeks to visit, but they leave on the 07/03 freeing me up to take a final crack at Japanese nightlife the weekend before my flight on the 11/03.

Failure to capture the Japanese flag will result in a great dishonour, and I really don't want to have to commit seppuku before my flight on the 11th…

What would I do? If like you I had time and freedom to do whatever I want, i'd build myself a proper background story, a fake identity.

So, without trolling you, here's what I suggest.

Approach 100 attractive girls in Tokyo and ask them the question "what are the best nightlife spots in Tokyo" in English and in Japanese.

Get a impressive looking microphone (windbreaker/phallic shape) with a fake logo (BBBC Radio 5), journalist-glasses, a fake identity badge, a blazer and record their answers on your phone.

Tell them you're doing some research for an online magazine called Dice. Focus on the research, not on getting notches. You will not only be able to improve your local knowledge, but also get to know more about Jap girls. Hopefully.

Can it fail? Absolutely. Could you get busted by police? Maybe. But as the SAS says, who dares win. Time for you to dare my friend.

I ran something similar back in 2006. I set myself up a photography assignment doing street candids of certain subcultures. One of which was the college girl, of course. I had the camera, tripod and look all nailed down to look like a cool foreign artist. All I needed was an assistant. A year or so previous I banged a freaky, emotionally unstable student while she was studying in Vancouver. She was beyond my level of kink, but she also like women - perhaps even more than men. I pitched her the idea and she thought it would also be a good way to meet college girls interested in some lesbo action.

We set up shop in a few different places; Harijuku and Ikabukuro mostly. She would approach the girls and get them to stand in for a picture. I would make some small talk, mostly get them to relax and laugh while gauging their English abilities and their interest. I had a stack of cards and I would give them my card and tell them to contact me for the photo by the next day. Or I would take their number or email. It was a lot of fun and I have some great photos of this time.

It lead to some bangs over the month, but more than anything it was a really fun and silly way to be out on the streets all day meeting people. My weirdo assistant was always good for a laugh too. We would often get a love hotel at some point just to relax or fuck. It was tough being on our feet for long stretches.
