Begin Rant.

Everyone I have talked to makes me think that there is something wrong with me. How could you not want a cute loving animal at your side? Well I don't.

To me it seems odd that you would let a random animal into a home only to let it pee on your carpet (puppy stage) and shed all over the place for it's life. Everyday you are forced to pick up the excrement of this thing and you are left wondering how many parts of your house harbor hidden urine. How could you, the king of your castle be subject to such a disgrace within your own Kingdom? I refuse to be diminished in such a way! And forbid that you actually want to leave for the weekend or a longer trip, what do you do with the thing?! Put it in a kennel for three days and be languished with guilt that while you are out having fun while Lassie is in prison?

I'm failing to see the benefit here. When I get home I want to relax, not take Fluffy or Rover for a walk. I don't want the neighbors to lecture me about how they hear him barking or that I'm walking him with the wrong leash. And No! I do not want Fido sharing my bed pushing me off little by little through the night.

Am I?

These are all things bad dog owners deal with. Train a dog properly, and you don't have these problems.
Shouldn't this be in drunk lounge or anything goes lounge?

I hate dogs. Just hate the fucking things.

I have a lot of unpopular opinions I have to keep to myself, especially when I'm visiting friends or family in the US. But man...I never tell anyone I hate dogs. It's the most unpopular opinion there is. Apparently we're not allowed to hate dogs.

I hate certain breeds of dogs, like mini-anything (tend to be nasty little biters) or giant dumbfuck dogs that people get "for protection" and their six year old ends up getting mauled by it. I forget the breed but they are really fucking ugly dogs.

I love dogs.

I think a lot of it has to do with properly training a puppy to reduce problem behaviors.

Another part of it has to do with looking at things in the right perspective.

People get all worked up about dog shit and how awful it is.

But at the absolute most, you might spend 5 minutes in a given day picking up dog shit. It's not that bad.

Maybe another 5 minutes to clean up hair (done on a daily basis, it prevents it from building up).

Also, inside urination doesn't happen after the puppy stage unless your dog is poorly trained, or unless you leave him/her alone for long periods of time.

So, to sum it up, I think the cost/benefit ratio of having a dog is highly favorable.

Put up with a few minutes of maintenance tasks a day, and get many hours of amusement and companionship in return.

I fully understand dogs aren't for everyone, I just thought I'd throw in my opinion.

Saying you hate dogs is a bit silly. It's like saying you hate people. Dogs are all different, a well trained pleasant breed of dog that knows it's place (i.e. you are pack leader, dog is subordinate) can be a pleasure to know.

Also, agree. Shitty dog owners make you think that's all there is to it.

I cringe when I see people being dragged along by a dog on a leash.

You train a dog properly and you'll have the most loyal friend you've ever had.

You don't train a dog and you take care of it you'll have a loyal but confused animal that doesn't know how to please you and you're both unhappy.

You don't take care of it you'll have a miserable creature that just wants attention and to interact by any means and you're the asshole.

You don't even have to let it in the house if you don't want to. A lot of assumptions in your post about dog ownership.

My warning level is too damn high to tell everyone at RVF I prefer cats...

Fisto is bang on the money, and there's another aspect to it too. People get the wrong types of dogs for the wrong reasons. My favourite dog is any working collie or kelpie. Keeping an animal like that in the town is downright cruel.

Many breeds of dogs need purpose as well as pack discipline, and if your town lifestyle means you can't give them that then get a cat.

Would personally never own any animal for companionship but would own them for profit in some way. They can be cute but I can't be bothered taking care of them.

I don't hate dogs, I hate people with dogs who don't seem to have a clue. I notice lots of women with dogs these days. It's a disaster. Many women fuck their dogs too. I would never have sex with a girl that has a dog.

The English fancy themselves as animal loves and the types of dogs they keep are ridiculous. Most of their dogs look like stray dogs.

The most important rule is dog lives outside the house. I'm not sharing my living space with a beast. Second rule the dog has to earn its food. Train them to guard your property, your children etc. The dogs has to be either a German Shepherd, Siberian Husky or any other breed which resembles the wolf. Most dogs people have as pets are not dogs but some grotesque imitation.

I would never have a cat, she's too alpha.

At least OP knows he doesn't like dogs and is therefore unlikely to own (and neglect) one.

The pound is full of pets who had "loving" owners right up until they were dropped off.

The same argument could probably be made for children, which is why it's great that feminists rarely breed.

Dog Pros:
1. Companionship - having a dog give you affection helps you resist having an online dating hamplanet do the same thing in a moment of loneliness
2. Women - having a dog is like a conversation piece that is way cheaper than a fancy car, house or expensive wine collection.
3. Social Camouflage - I like to walk alot, if I walked alone at night I would get weird looks, honks and the occasional cop car pulling up to me and asking what I was doing. Walk with a dog at 4am though? No one even bats an eye.
5. Remote assistance - When I worked in northern Canada, everyone had a dog that worked in the woods with them. The dog chased bears and equipment looters away and could often be found waiting at the side of the road by rescue crews when the owner was 2km off the road edge in the woods with a broken leg.

Dog Cons.
Its like having a diseased child. You have reduced freedom with a dog and I wouldn't reccomend one if you travel alot.
