how to get started?
Hey. I like the idea of getting into business and making money online, but I honestly have no fucking clue how to do it. I have no business background either. My main goal is to be able to make money and be location independent (just like everybody else...), but I don't even know where to start. My only idea now is to teach English abroad (I'm likely to do this, as it's better than living at home with my parents, but this option is far from ideal). I realize I'm asking a very general question here.. but does anyone have some tips on how to get into business (or just making money online)?

What can you sell? What do you like?

Have you read the 4-Hour workweek? That guy started out selling nutritional supplements, which are easy to ship and lightweight, and don't go bad. I know a guy doing that here too, although he's not gonna be making enough to live on anytime soon.

First, you gotta decide what you CAN sell, then it's going to be a lot of trial and error until you figure out what sales and marketing techniques work. More experienced hands can tell you about that sort of thing better than I can.

Also, teaching English for a while in a foreign country can't hurt. How old are you? Where do you think you want to go?

does anyone think it's a smart idea to join the military for 4 years, for the sake of learning a skills (computers, etc), and using those skills to start something?

YES

This montage is like the soundtrack to my life.

Tigers at a wedding. Excellent.

I would suggest you not turn to the four hour work week for business advice.

This will get you thinking about how to build brand equity online. However, his business advice is not very solid as a lot of the things he talks about are entirely unscalable and I got the feeling he is trying to convoince America to become a nation of bloggers. Having said that, you can certainly make enough money to scrape by on blogging. As someone who comes from a line of entrepreneurs though, I think that businesses should add value first and then blog later.

This is a fantastic book. Get the ebook and read it in one sitting.

Check out with interview with Derek Johansen of http://www.muselife.com and MJ Demarco. It lays out the principles in about twenty minutes.

Very few people are living that lifestyle. If it was so easy to make enough money online to live comfortably anywhere in the world everyone would be doing it.
