Best time of the day to take a Multivitamin?
What do you guys think? When do you take yours, or the majority of your vitamins/supplements and why?

RE: Best time of the day to take a Multivitamin?
I usually take supplements in the morning with breakfast. Not because that is particularly the best time, it's because I actually remember to take them.

Like exercise, lifting, healthy eating, etc, I subscribe to the school of thought that consistency is the only thing that matters with regards to long term health. I don't think the machine that is the human body ultimately cares when it gets things it needs, it only responds negatively over time if it doesn't.

That being said, I'm sure those that have fine tuned the process will be happy to discuss their timing of supplements and give logical supporting evidence.

My main issue is simply taking them on a daily basis, so I do what works best for me.

I'd take it in the morning. Most likely your multi has vitamin D in it. When taken in the morning vitamin D helps your body capture its cicadian rhythm.

I'm personally against multivitamins on the basis that they're not particularly effective. Taking certain vitamins at certain times can affect absorption. Zinc and calcium are two that come to mind.

It's actually better to get your vitamins from a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables incorporated into your diet, rather than a pill. More bioavailable.

It's pretty tough for your body to extract the nutrients from a solid pill - try eating well instead. That said, if you can get your vitamins in a liquid form (I take flax seed oil, fish oil on a spoon and calcium in water form), then you're in the clear.

A lot of these vitamins and supplements are fat-soluble. Make sure you take them with some kind of fatty foods.

I take Orange triad in the morning and at dinner. Morning is usually the time I take the multi anyway since I forget to take it later on in the day.

RE: Best time of the day to take a Multivitamin?
I use Orange Triad as well. It's 6 pills a day so I find its best to split them up between am and pm doses. I believe the bottle suggests taking 2 pills 3x per day, but I find taking 3 pills 2x per day works just as well and fits in better with my schedule.

No matter what multi you take, if the daily dose is more than 1 pill per day, I would think it's better to split your dosing.

I read this and just have two questions about some conflicting info. I received.

1.) I'm an ectomorph (seriously, I have the bony build to prove it), and I was reading somewhere that I should eat before going to sleep because of this. Yet, there are so many sources saying that I shouldn't eat before bed. What do you guys say?

2.) Alot of you guys say you take ZMA before bed, but the link was trying to say that Zinc should be taken by itself. Do you guys take it on an empty stomach also (since I read we should avoid food 2-3 hours before sleep)?

I am naturally an ectomorph, this won't stop you from putting on weight if you are determined. My last meal is usually at 7pm and I don't go to sleep till about 10-11pm. I've been doing this for years and still put on weight.

You can take it on an empty stomach but it will take some getting used to since it makes you feel sick and like you are suddenly producing 2 liters of saliva. Zinc can be taken by itself but remember that if you do it this way you will need a separate copper supplement.
