It's rare for me to find a maxim so life changing that I realize how different life could have been had I learned of it early on in my life. The maxim is fairly simple. Never complain; Never explain. I always used to think that a good explanation beat no explanation but in the world that we live in more often then not you get the opposite of what you'd expect, no matter how rational, or reasonable or common sense your explanation is, it falls on deaf ears. Maybe I'm a strange person but I get a good explanation and I'm good with that so my reasoning has been that other people must be this way too. But it simply isn't so. And the same goes for complaints. Now I'm not saying one shouldn't complain, there's definitely places for that like when you buy a pair of socks and it comes with holes in them, more then likely you'll get the company to send you a couple pairs of nice socks with no holes to compensate but in almost all other situations complaining doesn't do much of anything but piss you off a bit more and piss off the other people dealing with it. Maybe in Hell's Kitchen it's pretty good though. Anyway I picked up the Maxim from artofmanliness.com I never read anything from the site (that I can remember) but it has a great article about it.

Sounds defeatist and selfish.

I complain about everything and explain how to make it better, which usually convinces people that it should be done and we do it - then we win.

I see that link goes to The Art of Manliness blog. That should be called "The art of looking manly but still being a cuck".

I know there are many situations where an explanation is more beneficial then to simply not offer an explanation(or a complaint). And certainly you want to explain things to those close to you, friends, and people who are like minded. I'm just saying that in most cases when someone demands an explanation from me or tries to put me in a position where the expectation they have is that I owe them one that it's better not to give into that paradigm. The same goes for complaining. I'd rather do what I do now, surround myself with people that I don't need to complain about, and rid myself of those who I would end up complaining about then to be around people that would annoy me to the point that I have to tell them about it. Maybe that is selfish. But hey you won't get no complaints from me!
