What is the REAL best time of day for Probiotics?
I take 1 pill in the morning on an empty stomach, but when I asked the question on Google's front page I received differing answers. What would you guys say? I know that a link that was posted here before kind of showed that people should take them at night on an empty stomach.

What are your personal experiences?

How much of a difference do probiotics make?

I make sure to eat yogurt every so often but how essential is it really?

Supposedly they are very essential, so I'm just trying to make sure. If they are more beneficial at night, I don't want to be taking them during the day and thus not getting their full benefit.

If you're getting varying answers i think that means that there isn't an ideal time to take it.

Personally i would just eat some greek yoghurt and call it a day. No need to spend money on supplements unless you were on a round of antibiotics.

I've tried Elixa which is supposed to be good. Did i notice anything...no. Agree with the others, eat whole foods. Foods like yogurt, kefir, raw milk (depends on 'us state'), sauerkraut, kimchi, garlic, foods in your own garden (that has untainted dirt), potatoes cooked then cooled (prebiotics/resistant starch), should help. Of course I'm just regurgitating. The best websites im reading now is freetheanimal and marksdailyapple.

RE: What is the REAL best time of day for Probiotics?
Studies suggest there is no discernable health benefit to taking probiotics more frequently than once every two days. Therefore, I think the time of day doesn't matter that much.

That pill you take is really just bacteria that lives in your stomach and helps break down food. I see no reason why it shouldn't be able to survive for at least a couple days, if not longer.

I think a much more critical time for taking probiotics is after an antibiotic regimen. A strong script will wipe out a huge portion of the bacteria in your gut, and the antibiotics may stay in your blood for a few days even after you take them. I make sure to take some consistently 5-10 days after finishing a prescription.

Microbes can play games with the mind. Interesting read on how gut bacteria affects the brain.

Dude, funny you bring this up. First time I started paying attention to probiotics was last year while I was visiting Brazil. I caught a cold when I was down in Rio, it was September and it rained a lot down there. Also the weather was fluctuating between 50 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and one day I went out with out a coat which led to a miserable cold.

One of the guys who came along with me told me how he too used to get sick a lot, he mentioned how the slightest change in temperature would leave him sick for a week or more. He told me this all changed for him when he started taking probiotics - now he rarely gets sick.

To be honest, I hate taking supplements and I don't believe 90 percent of the health claims I hear attributed to products. Never the less I started looking into probiotics and I spent a good week studying the various products on the market. Since probiotics are naturally occurring bacteria I decided to give them a try. At first I started drinking Kefir yogurt which is supposed to have the most "live and active" probiotic strains we, who seek optimal health, desire. However I'm not a fan of dairy due to its artery clogging cholesterol properties so I switched to a "one a day probiotic" pill.

Besides taking these probiotic pills everything in my lifestyle has been the same. I still work out, I still eat healthy, I still take vitamin D and multivitamins supplements. The only difference since October 2015 has been these one a day probiotic pills. For a moment it seemed weird listening to some of my buddies complain about the flu, colds, sore throat and runny nose during these past few months. Previously it had been me who was sick for most of the winter. I live a very active lifestyle, I snowboard just about every weekend in really cold temperatures and I have not gotten sick since October.

It's now April and I have made it through New York's semi mild winter without getting sick. I cannot say for sure it's the probiotic pills that I take every morning but it can be. To answer your question, I take them in the morning with my breakfast.

I don't time it. All that matters is that you take it. But I usually take it in the morning on an empty stomach.

What other sources of probiotics are you getting? Sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, lassi and greek yogurt are all good foods you can incorporate into your diet in addition to the pills.

I'm not getting any other probiotics in my body other than the Custom Probiotics pill and some random yogurt. I need to see if 2 pills a day will make more of a difference for me (either positive or negative), since I almost don't feel anything with 1 pill every morning on an empty stomach.
