Anyone have any recommendations or thoughts about varna? Going there end of may for a weekend

I've been there three times over the last few summers, it's a very nice and lively little city in the center and along the beach where you'll find bars, restaurants and some clubs. Although early May is still before the summer season (regardless of the mild spring we're having in Bulgaria this year, 28 degrees and sunny last weekend here in Sofia, though cooler again now), so I'm not sure if the party and beach scene of Varna is still a little dead at that time. It will probably depend on whether you get lucky with the weather.
If you were going in June or July I would also have recommended a trip to Golden Sands - the beach resort around 20 km north of Varna - but I'm not sure it will have started up yet already in May. Worth looking into though.

I am going the end of May,, so hopefully it will be decent?
Would you recommend Golden Sands or Sunny beach more?

I will be there 3 nights... would it be just better to stay in Varna the entire time?
I am a bit lost on where to go and how long to stay there.

End of May is still not summer in Bulgaria - unless you get lucky with some stray hot and sunny days. Last year in May I went to Sozopol, a small, cozy town further down the coast that's very popular with Bulgarians for summer vacations. Though I deliberately went a few weeks before the start of the tourist season to get a little peace and quiet, it turned out to be a tad too quiet as I had the hotel to myself and probably saw less than a hundred people - local townspeople included - in the few days I was there.

Varna is another matter of course since it's a city with a 200,000+ people, but if it's not beach weather yet when you arrive - and it's down to luck before some time in June - the beach bars within Varna will be mostly dead I presume (but I can't say from experience, some of the indoors clubs along the beach might very well be full. Can't really help you with specific nightlife recommendations though, didn't pay much attention to names last time and I'm not at all much of a nightgame person anymore).

Sunny Beach is a much larger beach resort than Golden Sands, though both are otherwise essentially similar. Lots of hotels, full beaches (in the summer), busy evenings and nights with lots of stalls, bars, clubs, restaurants. I seriously doubt either resort start coming alive until some time in June though, but if you're in Varna it's probably worth taking a bus or a taxi one day to Golden Sands.

I'm sure you can have a good time in Varna in May, but just be prepared that it's not really summer season yet. Though as I said it's not impossible that you could get lucky and it could potentially at least be summer weather.

Burgas further down south - close to Varna in size - is the nearest city to Sunny Beach (and Sozopol), but as far as the two cities go I personally prefer Varna.

Sorry for the late reply but Varna is awesome! Really cheap and amazing food. as far as girls.. it seemed dead in May though the nightlife on the water had great possibilities to be amazing. They have a really cool waterfront where you can get a table and a bottle of vodka for 30 bucks.

I ended up going to Sunny beach for 3 days also, which was incredible but also dead that early in the season. I would recommend going around June/July for sure.

Varna had some amazing girls but they are certainly not easy! There's a wide walking street leading down to the nightlife along the beach and in the evening it was like a model parade (I was there in the middle of summer).

The dudes are seriously busted.

The only success I had was with girls visiting from Sofia. Just dates leading nowhere with a couple of local bombshells, maybe if I had more time than a week.

I heard from my connections there that they have demolished the beach clubs - hopefully they will reopen for the summer season. I remember some names, but they may be obsolete:

Punta Cana: Open air bar that was crowded every night. Good place to start the night from 22-01/02 before going to a club. Best to go in a small group and get a standing table.

Cubo (not to be confused with Cuba, another similar bar): Chill beach bar, good place to hang out day and night. Popular, but it's huge so it doesn't get packed. Cheap, I think around $2 for large beer. Easiest place for a foreigner to go solo and chat up girls, but unfortunately the quality was low. Some locals who were into RSD I got to know went here often (without much success).

4aspik (pronounced "Chaspik"): Famous chalga (Bulgarian pop-folk) club. Had some big chalga names playing most nights. The quality could be amazing, but incredibly hard to game here. Balkan style table bottle service layout and everyone come in mixed groups. Not impossible to come solo in the late hours but be prepared for getting blown out a lot.

Xtravaganzza: Seemed to be the only one out of the big glam clubs along the beach that didn't have all chalga/bulgarian music, and somewhat better layout. If you are lucky to go here when they have a busy night playing hip-hop or other non-bulgarian music, it's probably your best best as a foreigner to get some action with hot Bulgarian girls. I got my flag here (with a girl from Sofia).

Checked up on a party girl I have on FB and she's posting pics mostly from a club called Plaza, and some from Masquerade and Moda Bar. So those are probably some hot Chalga clubs for the winter season.

Day/street game: Just go to the main walking street, or the beach walk later at night. Lots of hot girls.
