More coffee, please! A Chicago woman is suing Starbucks for allegedly serving her too much ice and too little caffeine in its cold beverages.

With summer on the horizon and iced drinks coming back into season, Starbucks is being accused of short-changing its coffee lovers.

“A Starbucks customer who orders a Venti cold drink receives only 14 fluid ounces of that drink – just over half the advertised amount, and just over half the amount for which they are paying,” states the 29-page-long complaint filed by customer Stacey Pincus, the lead plaintiff in the case, filed in northern Illinois federal court on Wednesday, according to Courthouse News Service.

“In the iced coffee example, a Starbucks customer who orders and pays for a Venti iced coffee, expecting to receive 24 fluid ounces of iced coffee based on Starbucks’ advertisement and marketing, will instead receive only about 14 fluid ounces of iced coffee.”

Starbucks’ cold beverages come in four different sizes: tall (12oz), grande (16oz), venti (24oz) and trenta (30oz). Hot beverages are only served in the first three sizes.

“In essence, Starbucks is advertising the size of its cold drink cups on its menu, rather than the amount of fluid a customer will receive when they purchase a cold drink – and deceiving its customers in the process,” states the lawsuit.


Pincus’s complaint also takes issue with the company’s pricing system, which includes higher prices for cold drinks. Since hot drinks do not include ice and cost less, she argues, Starbucks is making more money off of customers buying iced drinks.

Starbucks believes that the lawsuit is without merit.

“Our customers understand and expect that ice is an essential component of any ‘iced’ beverage. If a customer is not satisfied with their beverage preparation, we will gladly remake it,” Jamie Riley, a spokesperson for Starbucks, told CNN.

Starbucks customers who desire less ice in their beverages have also been known to ask for “light” ice when placing their orders.

“You can order light ice or extra ice on any of our iced beverages,” the company tweeted last April.

The lawsuit filed by Pincus is to apply to anyone who has purchased an iced beverage in the past 10 years. According to the complaint, the claims could exceed $5m.






Of course she is suing for the greater good, and will devote herself into collecting the money that all people who could not get enough coffee should have, according to her.

These kind of lawsuits have their place, for instance when Heinz shorted millions of customers by shipping their ketchup containers an ounce or two light (increasing profits quite a bit), but definitely not here.
Ice in anything will displace fluid, as anybody knows already.

Good! My biggest pet peeve is when businesses use ice to cut down the amount of liquid in a beverage.

My favorite is ordering a long island iced tea without any ice. I always tip the bar tender well before I do this haha.

Coffee is 99% water anyway (which gets cut with varying amounts of dairy), so the ice to liquid ratio is meaningless.

She probably read a story about someone suing over getting hot coffee spilled on them and took it as a challenge, a gauntlet being thrown down. Oh yeah? I bet I could sue over ice in an iced drink.

And right now, there is a girl reading about this, thinking maybe she could sue Starbucks because the thirteenth sip of her latte didn't taste as good as the twelve before it.

And shame on her. We have Intelligentsia and Lavazza here. There's apparently an Illy too. I used to get Americanos from Starbucks out of convenience and the rewards, but since they changed the reward program, no reason to go.

Very much agree. The veneer of knowledge and scientific understanding in western countries is tissue paper thin. Most people, especially urban leftists, think of themselves as having superior knowledge and education. Whereas in reality how much they Fucking Love Science comes down to whichever Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris book is on their bookshelf but couldn't be bothered to read.

And I think we're all aware here of how facts are routinely ignored, disqualified, or attacked when they conflict with the official narrative.

If you have the rewards card you get free iced coffee refills, it doesn't make any difference how much ice they put in. Unless she's getting those stupid milkshake drinks, in which case I bet she's one of the fats.

Although it's ridiculous that she's suing them for any money at all, let alone 5 million, this is actually something that really pisses me off.

Whenever you get a soft drink from a bar in a glass, they will ALWAYS offer or presume you want ice. Well guess what, I don't want to lose money by paying for solid water, probably about 20% of the volume of the glass will be taken up by ice.

Starbucks is a total SJW company. Couldn't happen to nicer people. Wouldn't surprise me if they settle this out of court to prevent a class-action suit. Either way, SJW's will continue to pay for their overpriced coffee.

Nah, I'm another one. No Cola either. Prefer caffeine-free teas like Herbal Blends or Rooibos. Sometimes I'll have a cocoa during the Winter months, but that's about it.

I'm overstimulated enough.

People are really put off by my failure to drink coffee, but then seem ok when I say it's a 'training' thing.

I drink it extremely rarely. Only when I have a very long drive ahead of me and I want the extra alertness. The only caffeine I get these days is via green tea, and I take that more of the antioxidant properties more than the caffeine jolt. Buying a huge box of green tea from Costco is pretty cheap, and has less caffeine than coffee.

Yep same here, no soda either, rarely beer nowadays. I don't drink fake juices either. 1 gallon of water with a green tea/chamomile bags in it.

Closest thing to sugar water is my preworkout.

I've only had coffee once when I was 8 years old. never again. Don't drink tea either and in England this makes me look weird.
