China Questions Taiwan President's Ability to Lead as a "Single Female Politician"
http://www.theage.com.au/world/sexist-at...p3qz2.html

Quote:Beijing: China's internet censors have taken the unusual step of scrubbing an editorial from one of its own official newspapers after the piece prompted outrage online for suggesting Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen was prone to "emotional" and "extreme" political views because she is unmarried and without children.

"As a single female politician, [Ms Tsai] does not have the emotional burden of love, the pull of 'family', of children," wrote the piece's author, Wang Weixing, who is a council member of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, a semi-official mainland body handling cross-strait relations.

"Her political and management style tends to lean toward the emotional, personal and extreme."

Mr Wang's op-ed was published in the International Herald Leader, a newspaper run under the auspices of the official Xinhua news agency.

Re-posts of the piece online, including on Xinhua's website and several popular online news portals, were deleted on Wednesday as criticism of the piece's misogynist bent gained traction.

The controversial and personal attack – the piece also delved into her dating history and family background, going as far as to suggest the fact her father had four wives had made Ms Tsai insecure – has been part of a sustained volley of negative articles carried in the state media aimed at Taiwan's president since her inauguration speech last Friday.

Given what we've seen from Merkel, I think the CCP makes a very fair case here. Anyone making decisions of this magnitude should have skin in the game. It's sad that the state-owned newspaper that published this article later pulled it due to blowback online.

Not sure I agree. The CCP has a track record of being amazing leaders--said no one ever.

China's leaders are some of the most emotional people ever.

No way. Chinese women are some of the most ruthless, red pill chicks out there. They'd only take on 50000 rich jewish Syrian refugees.

Definitely, just to be clear, I wasnt being serious. I know asian countries tend to celebrate their heritage and therefore reject multiculturalism on a large scale. Emotional thinking by female leaders is what brought europe to its knees, but yeah the homogenous nature of asian society tends to be one of there strong points.

Taiwan is notorious for it's parliament fights and brawls. That shit would never happen in China. They have way too much order to resort to this. Chinese never trust or respect those that appear to be out of order or harmony with basic Chinese culture. Taiwanese look down on mainlanders for many reasons like the hardcore death penalties, etc. and Mainlanders look down on Taiwanese for not behaving or keeping proper Chinese ways and culture.

A typical young man or woman in China that wants a political career must have a husband/wife and a family or they can forget about rising far in it. It's not rocket science on how having a family or skin in the game affects your views on life.

If anything this just shows just how quickly Taiwan has bought into the Western Liberal views on life and society.

They took it down because the CCP does not like too much opinion coming from CCP owned resources, especially if it is going to cause trouble for the diplomatic teams. Sometimes they do stuff like this to sneer at the other side and hide their hand. It's a Chinese thing. It's a silly quirk. Trust me when I say they do not feel ashamed of that piece. If anything they will dig deeper into that view.

As for Japanese apologies, they use it as a foreign policy bargaining tool. It's all about face. Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines on occasion use Japan's WW2 atrocities to shame Japan when conflict and economic deals are going on. Sometimes they team up to force Washington to put more pressure on Japanese diplomats. Japan being very Asian themselves, refuse to apologize or stop visiting the shrine because it would be a massive loss of face and show weakness. Just do it, do not discuss it, and ignore the complaining. To save face, China and the others will rattle sabers and complain to the UN and USA and threaten to make economic sanctions or navy building until the heat dies down.

Should Japan stop visiting the shrine or take it down? Yeah considering what those men did. (Can you imagine Angela Merkel and gang visiting Hitler, Himmler, etc. graves once a year?) If you were Japan would you stop doing it? Hell no.

Remember, in Asia it's always about face.

Is this the same China that keeps building 21st Century Potemkin villages to prop up its image as an economic tiger?

"she is unmarried and without children" if there is one thing that tell me, that is she is unfit for the job.
