The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life.
I'm currently reading the titled book by Erving Goffman and finding it difficult at times. The introduction was immense like a chapter in itself with some great pointers. I'm now reading the first chapter 'Performances' and keep getting hindsight's and memories pop up which is distracting for my reading but at the same time allowing me to relate. I feel as though I'm needing regular breaks from reading.

Some first impressions about the book. It was published in 1959 and reads like an academic discourse, some of it is quite traditional with respect to social norms and male/female intercommunication. It also deals with interactions on a truth communication level whereas lying is pointed out as a socially destructive behaviour which would lead to shame, loss of face and speaks of consequences of common behaviours in relation to presentation.

So far I'm enjoying it. I keep telling myself that even though it is old fashioned in places that I will benefit from it, in fact, some of the stuff mentioned within is very powerful and very perceptive to the point where I feel inspired to become a better man.

Just thought I'd share a great book and my initial thoughts.
