ITT Tech was a for profit school with 130 campusss. Last month, the feds demanded that the school produce additional capital to cover losses in case rhe company were to fail. ITT Tech has been accused of defrauding students and investors with misleading and false post graduation job claims, which it has defended.

All these for-profit colleges are complete and total scams that should be completely ineligible for federal student loans, which would effectively shut them down. All they want is a warm body to get that government loan and pay them, after that they don't care.

Good, this is however just a small blip in the larger scam that is higher education.

I'm still looking forward to the over priced college degree system getting its gut punched. I may be waiting for a long time...

On the surface, this appears to be a good thing - the government cracking down on shady business practices. And it is...sort of.

However, this will only strengthen the traditional college system since fewer students will choose to go to for-profit schools. This will further embolden the SJWs who control the traditional colleges. They will become even more arrogant than they already are due to this decrease in the competition. The SJWs now have a new batch of students to indoctrinate, and I imagine they are licking their chops. Expect things to get worse at the traditional college level.

A lot of this SJW nonsense did not occur in the for-profit system, since its student body was generally older (and less susceptible to the propaganda). ITT might have been flawed, but nobody was dragging a rape mattress down its hallways.

I've never actually met someone with a degree from ITT and I have no idea what their reputation was like in the job market. I had a somewhat negative impression of ITT because their commercials were so annoying, but otherwise had nothing against them.

I personally think for-profit universities are fine. Of course they try to get as much money out of their students as they can, but students need to do some research and make sure the school will serve their needs before giving them any money.

The student body at ITT was predominantly older and male (76% men). Could it be that the Feds do not want this demographic to be served? Or, do they want to move this demographic moved into the traditional college where they can be “monitored” by female instructors and administrators? Or, do they want these men to go to other for-profits colleges (such as UOP) that are dominated by women? Or, is it a combination of all three? I hope I’m wrong about any or all of these questions.

Note that other for-profit colleges (such as University of Phoenix) were just as egregious in their practices. Virtually all of them have been warned, placed on probation, etc. But none have been forced to close all their campuses nationwide.

I wish it were so, but they were really predatory.

You can go to a community college and get roughly the same quality of an education for what 3-5k as opposed to ITT Tech's 35k a year.

The real trick may have been that a lot of soldiers were going through their ranks and getting scammed. Scamming vets on GI bills made someone sniff around.

There's still Pheonix and DeVry out there. The whole industry for and non profit needs a shakedown.

At this point, that seems to be the best move economically. Take two years of your general education and then move into a traditional four-year college when you are ready to start your major.

There are even high schools that offer classes that give you college credit. A friend of mine had a son that entered college with 45 units or so. Those 45 units would have cost roughly $20,000 at a for-profit college.

From what I've read, ITT was previously caught hiding their defaulted loan rates of students, which is part of the reason the feds demanded that they increase their cash reserve. They aren't the first for profit school shut down this year, and I'm sure they won't be the last.

Every college out there is ``for profit.'' Not making a profit because you over pay your teachers (who are 98% liberal and actively indoctrinate their students) and hide cash reserves in endowments doesn't change that fact. Modern colleges are just cash-cows for the student loan industry and the politicians they feed with contributions.

The cycle is simple. Politicians make a ton of cash available to students. Students, most of them not college material, grab the ``free money'' and hand it over to the school. The school takes the money, opens positions it doesn't need on the free money (like Office of Diversity) while handing a good bit back to the politician's campaign coffers. The school then raises its tuition every year, while lobbying the need for more money for students.

Modern education is a joke. One of the first papers I had to write during my BSN was on the topic of sexual minorities. Yes, that is what you are paying $15000 a year for in tuition and fees. Learning about lesbians and trannies.

One of my IT guys went to an ITT branch. He's a competent IT worker and has handled a pretty heavy workload with a good attitude. I don't know if this is in spite of ITT or because of it. He was probably already pretty good with IT related issues before he went there and just did it for the certs.

My best network guy only spent 3 semesters in college before dropping out to work for more money than most Comp Sci majors with a BS. He was an experienced specialist already at 20, having done netadmin work for a local company while still in highschool.

I went to a for-profit school and I am one of the few who graduated from there actually working in the industry I studied for.

Like any other education it is what you make of it and you have to put work in outside of school. What was taught in school wasn't enough to get by, I had to study and learn shit on my own.

Could I have gotten work in my industry without it? Yeah possibly. No one in my industry gives a fuck about a degree, work experience is all that matters to them. I could have learned the software on Lynda.com and crewed on indie films for hands-on experience. What a school really does is deliver the learning and hands-on experience in a convenient package. What we have to do now is weigh whether that convenient package is worth the high cost of school.

All these schools try to sell themselves on job placement. They do little if any in this area. I know that from experience.

Another guy who attended DeVry found a job interview on his own. He told his counselor at DeVry about it. The counselor called the employer, and the employer interviewed a bunch of other people as well.

I know one guy who benefitted from Microsoft certification classes and did nothing with it at all.

Does a school advertise in the want ads part of the newspaper? That should tell you everything.
