I'm a poker player located in Vancouver, Canada. Been pro for 2 years mostly small time but have had a decent amount of success last few months. I head to Vegas every year for WSOP cash games just wondering if there are any other amateur/professional poker players out there.

I am looking to network in case I ever travel to Europe or USA or even Asia for tournament events and cash games.

Anyone else out there?

How well does red pill thinking help in poker? I would imagine that red pill insights help you to read the other players better, and also to control what you let the other players read from you?

I play in the casinos. It's fun and I win a lot. I've found that a noob doing well at the poker tables really pisses off the regulars. They can't tell if you're just getting lucky or if you're sharking.

The last hand I played was a humdinger. I sat down and bought $50 in chips. In a couple of hours, I had over $800.

So we get the deal, Texas Hold Em, and I get an Ace-Queen. The pot builds and builds as the cards go down. I now have three aces with a queen kicker. There's just one guy left in the hand and there's over $2500 in the pot (I'm not pro and that's a lot of goddamn money for me). This guy stands up and goes all-in. I have three aces with a queen and can't figure out what he could possibly have that could beat me. Even of he has the fourth ace, I have a queen. Right?

So I stand up and go all in.

He has the other ace. And a king.

Goddamn.

Ace Queen (especially unsuited) is one of those hands that can get you in to trouble. It's tough without knowing how the cards came out but in that scenario you probably expect he has the fourth ace and you're probably obliged to call. You're just waiting to see if he turns over the King.

I knew exactly how that story would end the second OP mentioned what hand he had.

AQ is infamous in professional poker for leading to bust-outs in poker tournaments against AK, AA, or mid-to-high pairs.

By the time you had trip aces, yeah, you were doing pretty well. But it depends how all that developed, and we can't really say much without having witnessed the play.

Ace-high isn't as good as most people think it is in hold'em, in any case.

I don't know what a donk is, but I had over $800 after starting with $50 two hours before. And if donk means that I'm a dumbass, are you saying you would have folded 3 aces with a queen kicker? Then you must have ESP.

Everyone else at the table was a regular. They had been losing their money to me for 2 hours and were sore. But when that guy turned his cards over, they were all, "Ohhhhh no!" And they were cool. They said, man you HAD to play that out; good job.

He could call AQ--depends how the other players were playing previously. I usually fold in situations when I can be beat in three different scenarios in that hand. He could be beat with AK or a full house.

I love playing poker. I play mostly tournaments in casinos in the DC area -- once or twice a week. DC/Balt area has 4 casinos (if you include Delaware and West VA) soon to be 5 with MGM. Playing 1/2 no limit is frustrating because the is no rhyme or reason for the way idiots play. And you get a lot of idiots playing 1/2. I've had success at 2/5 and Omaha.

I even like watching poker training videos on youtube when I'm bored. But one guy I watch is a 1/2 player that moved to Vegas from Florida. He makes videos on the strip--showing different casinos, where to eat, and talking poker. I think he ran out of money twice since I've been watching. And he lived in a shithole apartment with no furniture. I think he is 40 years old. His situation is kinda fucked up to me but he says he's living the dream. People get on him in the comments section about his shitty apt and always losing money. And he drinks coffee way too much. One more thing, he dresses like a 12 year old. I can't stop watching. Its a train wreck!

I'm a poker player. I played a lot pre black Friday. I was living in playa del carmen for about a yr and half playing online. Currently playing on American's cardroom trying to grind it up. I had to use bitcoin to get money online which I don't really trust so I have a small roll now.

I came back home and was casually looking for jobs (online can be draining. I think a mix of live is good), lucked out and got something in finance that pays well, but I hate it. I want to play for a living again so I can travel more.

Would love to network or sweat sessions

I played 4- 6 hours a day for 8 months straight in Kuwait. Never left the base and played with Kuwaitis though. The stories I've heard. Anyway, I miss the grind. We have a network of about 30- 40 players. I made around 8k or 1k a month. Not much playing the same guys. But I learned a lot and talked a lot of shut.

Headed to Afghanistan next month. Hope there is a game going. If not, I will start one.

BrewDog that's exactly why you don't get involved with AQ in cash games. Once involved though I would try to play the hand passively to try and control the size of the pot, check calling and no re-raising. I never want to push all my chips unless I've flopped top two pair or trip queens. Some players will play any ace so you can easily put your opponent on AK or a full house with weak ace.

Every poker player has made a similar mistake at some point and blew their stack when they suspected they were beat by calling with a hand they thought was too strong to fold. What separates the men from the boys is whether you learn from it or consistently repeat the mistake - trust your gut, your instinct is rarely wrong.

In response to the OP's question I play a little but not very often these days. I used to play a lot and sometimes regret not having a stab at turning pro during the poker boom. I used to play .50/1nl sometimes 1/2nl, that was my comfort zone and I stayed in it. My biggest win was $15k and I had a few $1k cash sessions. My strategy was to deposit $50, run it up to $1k, cash out and start again, sometimes I could do it in a day sometimes it would take a week. Eventually the games toughened up enough that the ROI wasn't worth my time.

It must be a tough way to make a living these days is it not? Which sites are worth playing on these days? I sometimes dabble on Pokerstars but the games are way tougher than they used to be, there's no easy money. I still enjoy hitting the £2nl cash games at the casinos but the games don't start till 10-11pm and I'd generally rather be elsewhere at that time of night.
