National Review: Millennials are more conservative
I am extremely skeptical of the claims of this article but still thought it was interesting enough to post up

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/44...wing-trend

Quote:Last week CNN highlighted the results of a paper by Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University. Examining data on 10 million adults from three different prominent social surveys, Twenge found that high schoolers are more likely to identify as politically conservative than they were ten years ago, and that political polarization is higher in the Millennial generation than in Generation X or the Baby Boomers at equivalent ages. In other words, though young people today still tend to be liberal, when you compare like to like — previous generations at the same age — Millennials are trending less liberal than their parents and grandparents.

More like "We at NR totally dropped the ball on the rise of the alt-right, and now we have to show how hip we are to those crazy kids".

WFB would be turning over in his grave, if he knew how inconsequential and predictable his magazine would become.

I believe it. Look at the 80s. There was a conservative rebound after the children of the ultra-liberal 60s and 70s. I think we're experiencing the same thing. Teaching martial arts, I get to deal with the high school demographic a fair bit. Some are daughters of single mothers that completely understand the faults of their mothers (in circumstances where the mother is actually at fault) and how it ain't daddy's fault. A lot of the hip, new age shit is seen as tacky by that generation. I read somewhere (yes, I know, not the best citation but I'll try to find it) that they're less "social media present" than millennials. As history shows, there's always some rebellion between generations. A liberal generation in response to a conservative parental generation, and vice versa.

Civilize the mind but make savage the body.

Well I work with those worthless fucks and they're not impressing anyone. Fucking lazy and self righteous. They want a raise on the first day without ever producing anything.

I'm not a fan.

I've noticed a trend here; even the 'conservative' baby boomers and millennial kids seem to have a spoiled and entitled attitude and often think that working at a meaningless corporate job which you hate just to afford your own debtor's prison (aka a McMansion) is the only 'purpose in life'.

The American Founders would be rolling in their graves that some of these people call themselves 'conservative'. Many of them just bought into the same entitlement mindset as the others did during the counter-culture era; they just focus more on earning 'high income' and 'finding themselves' through their possessions and promotions rather than through 'getting stoned', but suffer from the same degenerate mindset.

I definitely don't believe this. Every millennial that I work with and the few I know are liberal, limp wristed wimps. Not a conservative bone in their bodies.

Only conservatism I've seen is if you consider the regressive left and conservatism two sides of the same coin. Figure a millennial that won't have sex because it's afraid of accidentally committing rape is behaviorally identical to one who won't have sex because it makes Jesus angry.

What they think is conservatism versus what millenials actually feel are vastly different.

If anything, most millenials enjoy shit talking against the regressive left. You'll be hard pressed to find millenials against gay marriage, attend church weekly, and are resistant to sexual promiscuity.

It's basically a reaction against progressivism gone amuck.

You can make a survey say anything. Those college rape surveys come up with unbelievable numbers because the questions are either vague or too generalized.

My experience is that they - and we're talking less than a decade younger than me - are convinced of their snowflakeness, even the men. The are utterly selfish. And, that selfishness, is probably what these researchers are defining as "conservative". Evil conservatives just want to keep all of the money for themselves after all.

When it comes to some issues, they are more liberal than a 60s radical would have been:

Quote:We know from other research that millennials are more supportive of LGBT rights, gender equality and racial equality compared to previous generations.

I don't see how you can reconcile that with:

Quote:campus ministers reporting that adversity has actually renewed their students’ devotion to the Gospel.

What the article says is that, while in some ways they hold a slightly more conservative outlook, in a lot of other ways they hold more of a libertarian view. Meaning, that they are selfish enough to want to get what they feel entitled to, yet possess none of the compassion for others that mark a true conservative.

Here's the part that makes me think this whole article - and the research - is either skewed or just wishful thinking.

Quote:Even among millennials who identified themselves as conservative, Clinton still beat Trump 30 percent to 24 percent. Sanders garnered the support of 14 percent of millennial conservatives.

How can a conservative vote for a devout socialist and social liberal? They can't. Between Trump and Clinton, they're both socialists (Trump might be slightly less), but Trump is the clear winner on social issues and immigration.

So how can a combined 44% of "conservatives" support socialists who fail every social test of the right?

RE: National Review: Millennials are more conservative
It is a cycle, I would say.

Let's go back in time a little bit.

The WW2 generation was relatively speaking, conservative (because life was harsh before WW2. Liberals do not thrive in such conditions). The generations that came after (Boomers and X), grew up in a times of relative prosperity.

And when is prosperity, liberals thrive.

Now, the generations that came after Boomers/X, are living in an era in which the society is getting worse by the day (for example, migrant invasions and various recessions). Liberals cannot thrive in such conditions and that can be seen by the rising popularity of the Alt Right and the Manosphere, and people like Trump, Le Pen, Farage etc. And their most vocal supporters are...Millenials.

Exactly. Kids in general don't like being told what to do, and now that we have a dynamic where the left is perceived as the nagging, scolding finger you can expect some degree of backlash. It also helps that thanks to people like Milo and Matt Stone/Trey Parker the overton window includes making fun of PC warriors. Don't underestimate the importance of the last part where for the most part people now feel comfortable mocking SJWs.

That doesn't make them "conservative" however. In fact I highly doubt that many of them have any comprehension more sophisticated than being irritated that people would dare scold them for watching porn or liking sexy women.

I agree with what Easy_C said. They millennials are not more conservative, they're just less liberal than previous generations. You'd need some kind of a massive socioeconomic collapse in order for the younger generations to revert to a "praise the Lord and pass the ammunition" conservatism of their ancestors.

Even "praise the Lord and pass the ammunition" does not change the fact that as products of their time they still possess the liberalism that is the result of the enlightenment era which led up to the "Egalitie,Fraternity and Libertie'' revolution that killed the entire aristocracy, the king and later led to a proto red terror which was such a disaster for france at the time.

An active cleansing of their minds of enlightenment era modernism and of a return to what the pre-enlightenment era peoples thought that was sane would be required.

Otherwise such "conservatism'' is just a shadow of a continuous degeneration of ''liberalism''.

RE: National Review: Millennials are more conservative
Of course they are.

Who wants to listen to comfortable corporate employees rail against corporations?
Who wants to listen to vast media conglomerates rail against something called "society"?
Is complaining about consumerism the least bit credible when you have two cars, but "know better"?

Passive hypocrites. Grandpa's youth rebellion has lost its teeth. It has become disgusting.

Under these circumstances, the opposite extreme becomes appealing.
The opposite extreme is not "pay your doctor with a chicken" conservatism. It's something very different.

A fair amount of them lean more libertarian, as a whole millennials are more tolerant of social change such as gay marriage but most of them aren't going around chanting "racist sexist homophobic" outside of obese Tumblr feminists, or students of Marxist studies on Berkeley university.

I also think wealthier "yuppie" millennials are more fiscally conservative.

But there aren't many extremely socially conservative millennials outside of maybe evangelical churches or Bible schools like "Bob Jones University".

I suspect though that many of them are tired of the progressive dogma perpetuated on campuses and in the media; especially how at odds it is with things millennials actually like, such as movies, video games, and popular music, much of which isn't politically correct.

Most millennials for example aren't trying to have Grand Theft Auto games banned because of some simulated violence against a hooker (while not batting an eye at the player blowing countless male characters' heads off with shotguns). So I can definitely see millennials backlashing against the PC trend if nothing else.
