The Economist is by far my favorite source of news.

I've recently come across their youtube channel and have been watching it all day.

The Economist is great but since you speak French, here's an even better source: Le Monde Diplomatique. By far the most complete and unbiased source of information in the Western World. It's a monthly newspaper and very well worth the read.

I find the Economist too British biased while le Monde Diplomatique, while French, is more objective overall. That's just my take on them. Don't get me wrong, the Economist is class but I find le Monde Diplomatique does a deeper analysis of critical issues worldwide. Of course, you wouldn't find 10% of the issues mentioned in the Economist or Monde Diplo in any of the main stream news media in North America, but that's another topic...

Yeah. American media is not news, it's entertainment.

When I go abroad and turn on the TV in my hotel room, I usually get BBC, TV 5 Monde, Deutsche Welle - all fairly good except I sometimes have a hard time understanding everything that is going on when I watch TV 5 Monde.

I like Al-Jazeera because I get to see journalism from a perspective I've never quite experienced before - yet it is still pretty solid. I still take BBC over Al-Jazeera or any other news program any day, though. I also like Bloomberg, although that is sort of a different genre of news.

I think all East-Asian English language news programs are a joke.

Seems like the common consensus is that the 'The Economist' serves up some of the highest-quality news out there. So I'ma head on over to their site. Thanks for the link to their channel.

While I generally like The Economist, it can have an extremely condescending tone.

The opposition is often dismissed as the unwashed, ignorant masses; it doesn't take them seriously at all, and does not deign to consider their positions. This is evident in its treatment of multiculturalism, immigration and gun control. And if it finds itself in an unpopular position, it will sooner or later concede and retreat, as it did on global warming.

The science and business reporting is excellent. The surveys and international reportage are terrific as well.

I agree with basilrandom about The Economist's condescending tone. Like TED, it is a bit elitist.

Like you also mentioned, the science/tech/biz reporting, as well as international coverage, is sublime.

I haven't noticed The Economist making concessions on unpopular opinions and I'll keep an eye open for that.

From a stock market participants perspective, be very very careful trusting an Economist or The Economist. These guys are the media figure heads that trot on CNBC and say very interesting things but make no money. Think Abby Joseph Cohen at Goldman Sachs during the tech bubble. Economics makes for great cocktail conversation but should not influence investing/trading decisions. THAT comes from having a statistical edge and exploiting it.
