This thread is for discussion of the Alt-Tech movement. The primary goal of the movement is to develop technology and build up technological infrastructure to protect online freedom. Free speech is an obvious priority, but not necessarily the only one.

The short-term motivator is to solve the problem of SJW convergence of existing platforms, where SJW convergence either means direct control from an infected organization, or else a system or algorithm subject to abuse from SJW tactics like content flagging and reporting. Specific SJW hijinks should be recognized as a short-term problem though, and the ultimate goal is solving fundamental problems with existing technology and creating improved platforms that will be better for everyone, not merely the political right.

Last night, Vox Day had an open brainstorm* to announce Project "Big Fork" to his readers, as well as discuss the alt tech disconvergence in general. He gave us a preview of Big Fork, but asked that we not share the details publicly yet. Expect a formal announcement soon. All I can say is that Big Fork is the real deal. It's a great idea and I think it's worth your time to keep an eye on it.

The other two notable, already public platforms in development are the Brave web browser, and Gab, a twitter alternative. Gab.ai currently has a waiting list, because interest is very high and they're not yet built out to accommodate a large influx of users. I'm still on the wait list for Gab so can't review it yet.

I've been using Brave on mobile for a couple of months now. Brave opens links in background "bubbles" (replacing "tabs") which can be manipulated by dragging to different areas of the screen. This is really useful sometimes, though can result in a bit too much screen clutter at other times. I set Brave as my default browser in order to take advantage of this feature, but admit that I still use Pale Moon for most web browsing.

The desktop Brave seems smooth so far. My main issue is that my mouse scroll button doesn't seem to work on most modern sites (touching the scroll button causes it to jump all the way to the bottom). It's actually reminiscent of issues I used to have with a very old version of firefox. I have only used desktop Brave for about a day, though, so it's too soon to make a fair assessment.

There's money to be made make copy cat platforms and products that protect free speech.

This push on twitter and youtube to silence dissention really comes from advertisers who don't want their brands associated with whatever offends a group of people.

The corrolary of this is, to make a brand that openly mocks some group:

Use Deoderant Awesome and keep fatties away!
Only skinny and buff people can fit into these clothes.
Blabipedia: the encylopedia for normal people who aren't feckless wimps.
Etc and etc

Then use these products to advertise on alt tech platforms.

I have a feeling in my gut that offending the sensibiities of progressives can be a hot market up and coming market. There was a protein maker that fat shamed people as a publicity stunt in the UK and made a lot of money in the bad press.

Something along those lines would do very well.

Doesn't Nu age tech suffer from two problems? The infrastructure itself and the people who manage it, both software and hardware.

Google is a prime example of this. As is the government.

How do you prevent those in government and the SJWs from infecting the alternative?

The opportunities available to get in on the ground floor and be a part of building an entirely separate, robust alternative to SJW dominated platforms are huge.

This is the next step, lads, in bringing Red Pill and other breakthrough realizations into actual manifestation in the world.

Build. Build well, and win.

Gab.AI is also growing fast - Milo is there. Cernovich, Prison Planet and others. Vox Day has moved entirely to Gab and off Twitter - and importantly, has not seen a drop, but rather an increase in his site traffic.

From a hardware perspective, in addition to efficient design and such, it's all about being careful about funding sources. Gab and Vox's Big Fork project aren't going to be non-profits, but they're still encouraging and accepting donations.

From a software perspective, the general idea is to look at the whole picture and identify weak points, either in the business model or the fundamental design of the software itself. Twitter keeps a number of secrets, for example, that they presumably use to extract value from their product. The trending topics algorithm, for one. They can sell placement in trending tags or bury unwanted topics. Gab.ai can attack this by offering transparent algorithms that developers can program against, that will lead to better features and a better user experience. It will still be a challenge to defeat twitter and steal its users, but ultimately twitter can't be expose those algorithms (or, if they do, we win anyway because they'll be giving up their power).

Also worth noting that Gab has plans to actually build out and take responsibility for infrastructure in ways that, say, GNU social didn't. GNU social went with a fully federated model, which has its own fundamental advantages but ultimately means the user experience will be inconsistent. That makes it hard to compete with a mature Twitter.

Simple. Such people can't or won't restrain themselves from sooner or later trying to subvert the organization to be in line with the Narrative. When they inevitably begin to ignore merit and competency in favor of the "mariginalized," when they start to enshrine promoting a leftist cause as the first priority over profit or technical excellence, when they start talking about gay/trans/women's rights or equality or shit talking whiteness or western civilization-- immediately fire and purge them from the project. No second chances, no rebuttals, no exceptions. Anyone who finds that individual's expulsion "problematic" must be thrown the fuck out too.

Do not allow infiltration and subversion and there will be no problem.

I saw somewhere this week that a Doctor was advertising that men who are thinking of voting for Hillary should come in to see him to see if they need Testosterone Replacement Therapy! I agree that it can be effective marketing to specifically offend the majority cuck portion of a market segment to target an underserved shitlord niche.

The general idea is to use decentralized designs to quarantine infections and make them irrelevant rather than preventing them altogether. The principle is free speech not an alt-right safe space. This will look different in each platform I think, suffice to say that I think Big Fork has a real chance to make it work, and it has to do with the platform's fundamental design.

As for government-- that's over my head but I assume that it will involve selecting hosting and incorporation countries with the most favorable conditions.

When the Egyptians had their Arab Spring and the govt stepped in and shut down the country's internet, many people setup ad-hoc networks for communication and broadcasting of the "revolution". Ad-hoc networks will be absolutely crucial if network functionality ever gets attacked nationally, or if we get a "mystery outage".

Matter of fact, I just read last night that large sections of the US internet was out coincidentally at the same time as Assange's Wikileaks BS broadcast. Possibly a test run for future censoring from the major ISPs so be aware. We all know NBC is fully converged after the rigged debates and all the DNC shilling, here's even more evidence of how bad it could be.

Interesting Coincidence

There was a great deal of anticipatory interest overnight in a press conference held by WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. Numerous alternative media sources hinted at a potentially damaging release of information that might impact the U.S. election.

[ *NOTE* No Info. It was a complete PR stunt – A total nothing burger! ]

However, the WikiLeaks presser was schedule for 4:00am East Coast U.S. time, 10:00am in Berlin Germany. U.S. media were not covering the press release, however it was being streamed live over the internet. Coincidentally, at the same time the WikiLeaks press conference was taking place, there were widespread internet disruptions amid major U.S. corporate internet service providers:

NBC / Comcast / Xfinity outages in the major population centers on both coasts.



Amazingly at 5:13am EDT (USA) / 11:13am (Berlin) Julian Assange announced there would NOT be a specific release of anything related to Hillary Clinton at this event, and all of a sudden the outage issues cleared right up.

Yahoo Inc last year secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers' incoming emails for specific information provided by U.S. intelligence officials, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company complied with a classified U.S. government directive, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said two former employees and a third person apprised of the events.

Some surveillance experts said this represents the first case to surface of a U.S. Internet company agreeing to a spy agency's demand by searching all arriving messages, as opposed to examining stored messages or scanning a small number of accounts in real time.

According to the two former employees, Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer's decision to obey the directive roiled some senior executives and led to the June 2015 departure of Chief Information Security Officer Alex Stamos, who now holds the top security job at Facebook Inc.

"Yahoo is a law abiding company, and complies with the laws of the United States," the company said in a brief statement in response to Reuters questions about the demand. Yahoo declined any further comment.

"I've never seen that, a wiretap in real time on a 'selector,'" said Albert Gidari, a lawyer who represented phone and Internet companies on surveillance issues for 20 years before moving to Stanford University this year. A selector refers to a type of search term used to zero in on specific information.

"It would be really difficult for a provider to do that," he added.



Shit, no wonder Yahoo had all it's user accounts hacked...they built the software to do it themselves, and then probably had it stolen. There is just another piece in the mountain of evidence against using any major tech companies and their products. Get out now while we can and start creating alternatives.

I quite like the idea of Brave, seems like a good competitor to SJW-controlled Firefox, though I won't be migrating any time soon until it gets a similar ecosystem of extensions available for it.

Gab.ai will ultimately not last because it isn't decentralised. So they may for a while allow free speech but because it is technologically possible for censorship to occur, it more than likely will.

The major difference between a centralised and a federated model is that centralisation allows censorship. Can anybody name one centralised service which hasn't ended up censoring some group of people? Even Telegram removes ISIS accounts (not condoning ISIS of course but we're not a far leap from them in some people's eyes).

I don't really get the fundamental idea behind Gab because if you truly wanted to be "free speech" then it would allow federation and open-source the entirety of it's platform. Until then how could you trust that they don't use a biased algorithm or shadow banning?

An aside on GNU Social: their technological foundation didn't make federation easy, the sites are essentially silos on their own. Newer decentralised networks such as IPFS and ZeroNet make peer discovery far easier.

There are some fascinating projects to develop the uncensorable decentralised web occurring right now.

Don't know what this Project Big Fork is but it would be wise to build upon existing projects that have already had thousands of hours dedicated to them.

For example:
- I2P
- Freenet
- IPFS
- ZeroNet

3000 people are hosting 0chan on ZeroNet right now and this site has been up around a year only.

It can't be DDoS'd, there are no central servers to shut down and no government can block it. This is the future of the web.

You make them alternatives. Resistance always makes use of superior numbers -- the rulers are always few compared to the ruled.

So I think there needs to be better in-website search for all websites. (E.g. on this website, you could put a smart-search bar in the toolbar). But beyond that, in-website search should branch out to "friend websites".

As a bad example, the host blocked NNF from hyperlinking here, as the host of this website gets shit-talked by users on NNF as it's mostly comprised of banned RVF members. This prevents these almost identically themed websites from interacting. They are standalone blobs, both reliant on google to be the hub that directs new traffic to them.

There should be extensive spidering-out between websites. It's the web after all, not the hub-and-spoke. It should be possible, if you wish, to stay completely within the manosphere without ever bouncing back to googles search bar.

As a simple example, an in-website search algorithm in RVF would give priority to RVF content, but whenever for example Goodllookingloser's forum had a better result, it would return that in the results. Websites could dial in their search weighting of other websites based on the friendliness. I.e. goodlookingloser's would be at 100%, stormfront & jezebel might be at 0%, NNF might be at 20%.

I feel there should also be a way to interlink your identity between different websites in a decentralized manner. I.e. using the same private key, you authenticate as the same user for different avatars across different sites using software residing on your computer alone.

I think there's lots of room in this. Not sure how it would be monetized though. All the decentralizing stuff seems let monetizable than centralizing stuff (Google being a case in point).

So, specifically in this case, there are a few techniques. Some are going to be features in the software, others will be culture. For example the guidelines for editors and administrators are different.

Another plan is to have a multi-dimensional rating system for pages. Specifically, there are 3 new ratings: Relativity, Notability, and Reliability. Each page will have a score for each category. Notability is about thwarting the idiotic deletionism that has plagued wikipedia for a long time. Reliability is a way to deal with the problem of wikipedia's reality being defined by mainstream media. Relativity is the feature intended to deal with SJW infestations.

Relativity rates the bias of the page on a left-right-neutral scale.

While I would not have used a "left/right" axis, since there are many forms of bias, I think that is a detail that can probably be addressed later on down the line (probably after they replace the ancient WikiMedia software). In any case, what this means is that if SJWs take over a page it gets a left-wing rating and a corresponding right-wing page can be made. Neither page gets to be the "authoritative" one.


The next main plan is to use a "tri-level" content system. The general idea is that all content will be divided into "fact," "context" and "opinion." Facts will have a very high standard, while opinions will have low standards.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It's clearly a long-term ambition. There will definitely be unexpected problems. A project like this (assuming it succeeds) will always see some morphing and evolution in its early stages. What I like is that it's aiming to solve specific structural and cultural problems with wikipedia (the need for so many binary decisions: whether something is notable or not, whether a source is valid or not, whether a page is "neutral POV" or not)

So I think there needs to be better in-website search for all websites. (E.g. on this website, you could put a smart-search bar in the toolbar). But beyond that, in-website search should branch out to "friend websites".

As a bad example, the host blocked NNF from hyperlinking here, as the host of this website gets shit-talked by users on NNF as it's mostly comprised of banned RVF members. This prevents these almost identically themed websites from interacting. They are standalone blobs, both reliant on google to be the hub that directs new traffic to them.

There should be extensive spidering-out between websites. It's the web after all, not the hub-and-spoke. It should be possible, if you wish, to stay completely within the manosphere without ever bouncing back to googles search bar.

As a simple example, an in-website search algorithm in RVF would give priority to RVF content, but whenever for example Goodllookingloser's forum had a better result, it would return that in the results. Websites could dial in their search weighting of other websites based on the friendliness. I.e. goodlookingloser's would be at 100%, stormfront & jezebel might be at 0%, NNF might be at 20%.

Google's monopoly on search is a huge problem. Similar to how Wikipedia biases you towards a particular worldview, so does Google (and is proven by evidence of them biasing results).

One immediate solution to this is using SearX. It's a metasearch engine, so it can compile 70+ different search engines results into one search.

I like the idea, we're already halfway there. We already have YaCY but it's a memory and RAM hog. For ZeroNet sites there's a few search engines also. All that would be missing is a WordPress plugin for add it the search bar and work on improving the relevance algorithms.

See OpenID for a hosted solution, closest thing to what you've suggested. Requires each site integrating OpenID however.

Keybase.io is also a way to prove that you own a specific account on each site and it's all linked to one identity.

Personally I prefer managing many accounts separately because linking together can make it more catastrophic if it were hacked and it also leads to a bigger metadata trail, but each to their own.

It actually makes monetising easier in many cases because you can allow micropayments using cryptocurrency e.g. the Decentralised Library of Alexandria (iTunes/YouTube alternative) allows easier payments for creative types and Yours (Reddit alternative) allows payments for content creators.
