Was looking forward to it, but it's incredibly disappointing ... and somehow everyone is loving it (or is pretending to). And of course, any criticism towards it is racism.

The pacing is slow.
The dialogue is nonsensical at times.
Mike Colter (who plays Luke) is bad at the whole acting thing.

The only thing saving it is Mahershala Ali (Cottonmouth) and the music.

Everyone wants to love it because it's a black superhero and social justice.

I used to read the comic books as a kid growing up. I loved the stories...this guy was a real person, tough, but vulnerable. Back then the comics were called "Luke Cage, Power Man."

I was looking forward to seeing how the Netflix version turned out. Haven't seen it yet. Can you tell us specifically why you didn't like it? Maybe give us a little more details.

As for the show, I've only seen two episodes. I like the world they build up and the acting isn't that bad. I just have a feeling they going to over the top BLM and the hoodie with the bullets scene is a nod to Travon Martin. I really like the actors they chose since they seem to act decently and they have very interesting faces. An example of this is Shades and the police partner.

Simone Missick has spectacular tits. Reminds me of Christina Hendricks. No full frontal nude shots, but you do see a side view. She is built like a comic character.

I agree with you on some parts, other's i'm going to say you are reaching a little.

The fact you assume that people loving it must be fake loving it because you didn't like it is a tad bit absurd. People have different taste.

1.I didn't have high hopes for this once I heard it was coming out. Watched the first 4 episodes and it was really good. Like GS stated before Cottonmouth is a damn good actor and his voice along with the aesthetics of his club are amazingly put together. The music is superb too, from the actual performers. I was surprised how well together the tracks fit the scenes.

2. After about the 4th episode, agree with GS. The pacing weirdly becomes slow as fuck. It's really strange to me how these two characters can be "at war" but damn near run into each other every other day. Some of the scenes become repetitive like "let's keep shooting at this obvious bulletproof guy" Get's old quick. Oh did I mention pace really slows down half way through.

3.Agree again with GS that the main character can't act haha. I really tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but dude is all over the place. Some scenes he's decent and then others it's like wow man that's fucking corny and looks like a dude trying to act out a scene.

4. I actually like the dialog in the series excluding Luke Cage. I was surprised Netflix let most of the nigga bombs drop. It was comical at times, because some of the reactions to a black hood guy seeing bullets bounce off someone, I could totally see in real life.

Overall: I'd say check it out if you have time to kill. The first few episodes will pull you in, but the rest will leave you like "where the fuck is the real action at." Similar to game of thrones last season. I'd rate this series 6.5/10. I'm a big visuals and music guy so of course the scenes of Cottonmouths club were amazing to me, especially Jidenna "Long Live the Chief." Song fit the scene and the timeline of recent events within the series perfectly.

I enjoyed the hell out of the show.

And no, I'm not just pretending to like it.



The acting is good. (Though I will admit the guy playing Luke is probably the weakest link in the show's acting chain. But he was never bad enough to take me out of it. I think it helps that, looks wise, he's exactly like the modern LC from the comics).

Although the plot gets stretched a little thin towards the end--both seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones had the same problem unfortunately, it's a Netflix thing I guess--there was still enough story, tension, and characterization to hold me for 13 hours.

Also I was very satisfied with the ending. No spoilers, I'll just say it's a logical conclusion given the story, while also being both a hard bit of growth for Luke and an excellent way to set up The Defenders.

The woman playing Misty could get it raw on the kitchen floor.

I think that the thought process of believing someone fake likes something because it has black characters is pretty much like racism. Pre-conceived notions based created internally based on some belief that hasn't been confirmed through any meaningful method.

The biggest problem which is the same in all of the shows, is that they don't back light much, and the overall lighting is too dark to see what is happening. Its weird from I have read, Luke was the most likeable character in Jessica Jones, but least likeable in his own show?

Everyone (besides Luke) sucked in Jessica Jones, whereas the entire cast of Luke Cage (besides Luke) is charming and colorful.

It speaks as to how uninteresting and unlikable the JJ cast was.

I'm four and a half episodes in and in no hurry to continue, which is unlike Daredevil where I binge watched the two seasons. I don't think Luke Cage is a bad show - and I like the title character - it's just not gripping me the way Daredevil did (which certainly isn't entirely without flaws either. Karen).
I think the two main detractors for me is that it's slow and that virtually everyone is black - or it's in "the hood" or whatever racial or social factor certainly appears to make it harder for me to identify with any of the characters than even in the lackluster Jessica Jones (where indeed the main character in particular was really just an annoying, selfish bitch. Guess I've known enough of them to make them easier to place in a world I'm familiar with).

I just watched about 5 episodes while visiting a buddy in LA.

He's a liberal and while not retarded, sympathetic to SJW causes.

The dialogue is retarded: There's a scene where Cotton mouth cracks some joke against the white crooked detective Scarfe. It went something like: Cottonmouth calls Scarfe a "Virginia", Scarfe asks what that means. "What else would I call a skinny ass white bitch"???

Har Har Har. That came out of nowhere and did nothing to move the plot or characters in any direction.

They always ham up the black slang. It makes me think suburban white/jews are writ in the dialogue.

The acting is horrible: First they make this character that is a human Terminator walking around (never hurrying) and kicking the shit out of people during a hail of gunfire. Then he whines all day and just wants to be left alone.

To add to the weirdness of it all, characters that are at odds are constantly up in each other's faces in what I presume is supposed to be tense scenes but it comes off as sexual and forced.

The characters suck: You have Luke Cage, who is so powerful, there's really no reason why he couldn't clean up all the criminals in a few weeks if he just went after them, but instead, he keeps pussyfooting around and for some stupid reason having these zinger wars with the main bad guys instead of just fucking them up.

Of course, then there would be no story, but instead of making him vulnerable to begin with, they create and even more ridiculous fake ammunition that can penetrate his skin. With bullets that, I shit you not, DRILL into his skin before exploding.

The bad guys are all terrible actors on top of doing all sorts of unnecessary grandstanding and blustering and forcing laughter when they have NO LEVERAGE as if they have it all figured out and have encountered a bulletproof superman many many times before. The female bad one reminds me of Hillary.

The cops: Terrible. You have a set of partners who have been working together forever and one is bad while the other, has zero fucking clue even though she has almost a superpower herself to recreate crime scenes. The captain is a half black, half filipina that sounds like Robert Downy Jr in Tropic Thunder with the over the top "black" manner of speaking.

The plot: It's an interesting plot line but it's ruined by everything else. What did they think would happen when the main character is THAT powerful? You can't go anywhere except more unrealistic bullshit.

SJW bullshit: Everything is sprinkled with little SJW talking points from rape culture to BLM positions.

What makes for a good comic book movie is that the story and writing give you enough material so you can suspend your disbelief enough to get into this other world. Unfortunately, this doesn't do it.

I will say that the soundtrack is pretty good.

Would only watch when bored.

Oh and by the way I think Daredevil is total SHIT. Don't get me started on that faggot.

I liked David Tennant's KilGrave. He was the only reason I finished the season.

Don't want to steer those who haven't seen it away if they're interested in watching it, but the pace of the dialogue between the actors in many scenes is slow (that's what I meant by pacing), and sometimes leaves one asking "what's the point of this conversation?" But I think that's just a byproduct of it being heavily improvised. Improv is hit or miss. If the actors don't hit a nice flow, it becomes a distraction. At least for me. The guy who plays LC just isn't very good, although he definitely looks the part. Nailed it there. The fight scenes are choreographed poorly. Not sure if LC actor being so big has something to do with it, sometimes it's a detriment.

Alfre Woodard is good, and so is the actor who plays Cottonmouth, I think you'll like him. Like others have pointed out, Simone Cook (plays Misty) is older but definitely WB. The music is good - if you're into hip hop - and I like that each episode is titled after a Gang Starr song (nice homage to the duo).

Things I liked about this show:

Luke Cage is amusing. Just the bored apathetic way he just runs through people is hilarious to me.

Bearded neanderthal Luke Cage in lockup.

The music.

People are ripping on the dialogue but a lot of the way this series is shot and the characterization is 70's blaxploitation. There's also a bit of Tarantino and some John Singleton influence as well. The style, dialogue, and tone here is consistent.

It's a pretty interesting mix of movie and tv styles whereas something like Daredevil was pretty straight forward tv superhero stuff.



Things I didn't like:

Gangster shit fell flat. Felt the way the plot came together against Cage was lame. Cottonmouth started strong and finished weak as fuck.

It certainly did drag in the middle.

The main villain in this was ultra campy and even campier than regenerating ninjas.

As someone who really enjoyed Daredevil, I was surprised to find myself having exactly 0% interest in Jessica Jones and now 0% interest in Luke Cage.

It seems like I made the right decision to skip over them.

I stopped watching after the end of that episode--it was such an obvious jump-the-shark moment. Combine that with the matriarchy angle being pushed into overdrive there, and it was a wrap for me.

I'm legitimately disappointed. This guy was a genuine bad ass compared to the other I'm self righteous or "let me just be a fucking buffoon" characters on the show. Sad to say even the main antagonist after just came off as old school and corny to me. Would make sense though, a true alpha male with style, charisma and backbone killed by a 90lb "I don't need no man" fake hair wearing bitch.

I've never been one to suggest an underlying agenda, but it's blatantly obvious the goal they're trying to push when the main beta male character is surrounded by "alpha" females. Fuck out of here!
