I've been buzzing my head or getting a very, very short military fade for the past 8 years or so. I do this because it's hot as hell down here, I hate putting gel in my hair, and most importantly because my hair is very wavy and frizzy...it's ugly when it grows! So many family members and girls have told me that I look like a thug because of my hair and i'd look better with something on my head. Does anyone else have stiff and frizzy hair? I'm ready to make the leap back into the hair game but I need a real short style that's easy to maintain. Nobody better mention one of those half head mohawks

I'll be watching this thread closely because I'm in a very similar situation as you. As a result, I have always kept my hair short. Would like to let it grow a little, but it becomes unmanageable, and not in a good way. There is absolutely no 'good' look for people like us.
One thing I haven't done in recent years is to just say 'fuck it' and try to grow it out mainly because I work in a professional environment. I feel for you, man.

Step 1. After you get out of the shower, vigorously dry your hair with a towel to almost lightly damp.

Step 2.Take a healthy amount of firm hold gel and apply all the way through roots to ends. This will give you the hold and texture you want with wavy hair like the model in image.

Step 3. Use your fingers as a brush and push back to create desired hair movement. You can also use a vent brush with wide bristles.

Step 4. Let the hair dry completely while you get ready for your day. Just before you leave the house use a dime size of hair wax for shine and malleability. This will allow you to brush your hair back into place with your hands all day long.

My hair looks like a fucking chia pet when long, especially in the humidity. A straight up Albino Afro. I've learned to tame it with the proper shampoo/conditioner. Right now it's Justin Bieber length, but 6 months it will hopefully resemble something like this:

It's a pain to maintain the mane, but the results hopefully be positive with the chicks.

Lol I need advice on this as well, I've always cut my hair short because it's so thick that if it grows too long it becomes a like an afro(I'm white.) I've never had my hair long but I'll definitely try it just to see what will happen.

Oh, psh, that's not bad, man! You can do a lot with that hair. Especially once you grow it out like the swayze pic above. My hair is much thicker and more unmanageable than that.

It has begun. I haven't shaved my head in about a month and just had it trimmed up today. Left the top alone and got it short on the sides. I've noticed:

- a few of my girls told me I look better with some hair on my head
- I don't look as skinny. Shaved heads are bad if you're skinny
- I don't have the thug face anymore with a little bit on top

I don't know how long to grow it out though...

No one has wavier hair then me, and mines thick as Amazonian jungle to boot. The one product I found that works well is hair wax or strong ass pomade. I still can't get my hair to do much even with this, but it helps.

What I was doing was getting it on my FINGERTIPS and then kind of massaging my head, the idea was to get it to the base of the hair, not sitting on top.

From there I'd just kinda run my hands through it and see what happened. I noticed that I could never recreate the same style over and over, thats for straight hair guys only it seems.

I started shaving my head after joining these forums, since many guys touted the positive response it got them, but with winter coming up Im planning on growing it back out. Finding the "butter zone" for length helps too. Mine has a really small window where its long enough to work with but short enough to not be bat shit crazy.

I bought a wave cap do rag to sleep in so it won't be as frizzy. It's a 3 on top and 1 on the sides right now. I think it might be a little to short to start adding gel.
