Is This The Best First Class In The World?
I've only flown first class to Japan and Thailand and it was nothing like this.

Ah yes, Emirates. That flight in particular gives first class passengers the option of having a 5 minute shower.

There's another middle eastern airline that offers one the ability to lay down in a private room. It's less arab shiek goldified, but still luxurious by American cattle class standards.

I have flown Cathay Pacific 1st class to BKK (gotta love frequent flyer miles). Not as grand as Emirates, but it is still pretty nice: Caviar, down comforters for your bed, and in my case, a really cute flight attendant named Mai.

One thing I noticed and my wife noticed (when she flew 1st on Cathay): The people in 1st class are actually pretty rude to the cabin staff. I didn't see that in business class.

Coach on Aeroméxico is like first class compared to United.

I noticed I had significantly more room on a cheap Aeromexico flight than United.

Yeah, more leg room, a hot meal, TVs in the seat, alcoholic drinks, and a laid back cabin crew.

Is it me or are flights everywhere else in the world astronomically cheaper than flying in the US?

Coach on every airline I've seen is like first class compared to Spirit and nothing is worse than connecting in the Fort Lauderdale airport.

I made the mistake of flying on spirit once. I'll never make that mistake again.

$11,000 to feel like a pretend Lord surveying the peasants below? Do you get to throw shit on the stewardesses too?

You have to wait until you land in Dubai.

Through my work I get to fly with Emirates First Class quite often, to be honest it is a bit tacky with its false gold decor, the seat is more comfortable and that is about it really.

Although the exciting part of the flight is always trying to spot the Porta Potties on their first flight, taking pictures, videos and trying to impress their friends back home.

Funny how the always look fresh faced when flying into Dubai and quite souless on the return flights!

RE: Is This The Best First Class In The World?
I´ve flown last week first class with Emirates with a check in upgrade. It had a 60% discount. Always ask for upgrades in the check in. Always. Qatar airways also let you upgrade in first class in a first serve basis. But you need to ask for it. For long haul flights it´s worth it. It´s a huge difference. Short flights it´s not worth it. A painful experience transforms into a normal. Emirates has internet on first class. With a laptop you can make some work. Also the reclinable seats are definitely worth it to get some sleep. When you arrive Dubai first class passengers will have a private car service free to the hotel. Just turn right on the final exit hall and ask for it.

You can still use miles, although they jacked up the price by 100% via Alaska Airlines. So 200,000 miles one way, theoretically could apply for 7 Alaskan credit cards over the course of year (doable) and get the flight for under $200.

Perhaps worth it if you have cash to throw around or a lot of miles to spend. Most frequent flyers will agree that for the price, business class is the best deal. First class MIGHT be worth it if the price was not too far from business class, but the service difference doesn't make up for the price difference.

I've started to less and less be able to handle sitting in coach for anything less than four hours. Flights between 4-6 hours I need some extra leg room and anything over 6 I need business class.

Sitting in coach is just painful for long periods of time. I'm tempted to switch my credit cards to airline miles just for upgrades when I need it.

You can get something, well, similar on Amtrak for about 400 bucks. Granted, Thailand is going to be a bit of a problem.

When my boss flew me out to LAX I tried using my miles for an upgrade to business class. Unfortunately, the trip fell close enough to Xmas that I was only able to get the upgrade on one leg of the return trip.

Maybe it was because of the holiday.. I swear flying coach devolved into a dehumanizing experience. I spent the trip wedged between obese people, some of whom were just obnoxious.

The biggest issue I find now, if you don't board right away, some asshole tries to take your aisle seat for himself.

I once flew Emirates first class. I used Alaska Air points to book it. That flight was awesome. The food was good, it had open bar stocked with expensive alcohol, and the shower was nice. Not sure I'd pay $11k for it unless I was rich though. The first class lounge in Dubai was nuts too. The lounge takes up an entire floor in its terminal. Great experience overall. I didn't think the gold lining on things was tacky. It was nice.

I fly to an outer island at least 5 times can month. There was a time when I went to Kauai and back every weekday for a month.

They give me the first class experience for all of twenty five minutes. Like they are doing me a favor.

For a twenty five minute flight they give you little fuzzy slippers, traveling toothbrushes, and various other creams.

Anywhere else I have a five hour flight, at the least. I can't handle normal class, and just need either the big seat or the bed ones.

Aloha!
