"An event organized on Facebook called “Queers Crash the Beat” is meant to protest Project Marie, an undercover police operation that led to charges against mostly men allegedly soliciting for sex in public.

It’s planned for the same time and location as the Toronto police’s Walk the Beat event at Marie Curtis Park.

The police event is aimed at bringing officers together with members of the community to physically walk the park to identify problems in the area.

In this case it’s public sexual activity that is at issue after numerous complaints from residents in the area led to an undercover sting operation where plainclothes officers frequented the park to see if they would be solicited for sex.


Earlier this month police charged at least 72 people with 89 offences ranging from trespassing to engaging in a sexual act in public.

Saturday’s Queers Crash the Beat protest is expected to begin at 4:30 p.m.

“They are just rounding up the most vulnerable members of our community. The people who try to meet others in parks at night, in secluded areas aren’t people who have access to the gains we have made as a queer community,” organizer and human right lawyer Lisa Amin said. “They’re not going to Church Street, they’re closeted, they often live in poverty.”

“Many of them don’t have access to computers or enough data to go surfing online and do the other things that people who think there is an acceptable way to go ‘cruising’ expect everyone to do.”

Randall Garrison, an NDP member of Parliament and the LGBTQ Issues Critic for his party, condemned the charges and likened the undercover police sting to the Toronto bathhouse raids of 1981.

“It’s not 1981 anymore, but the fact that these types of targeted operations are still being used in Canada’s largest city only underscores the fact that so much more needs to be done to ensure all members of the LGBTQ community feel safe,” he wrote earlier this week in a statement.


So, the moral here is Toronto's gay community doesn't want police persecuting them for having sex in a public park despite the fact that local residents have long complained about such activity.

There's a small park like this near where I live. People know better than to go too far off the trails because you might see something you'll never be able to forget. I've had friends tell me not to go too far back on the main trail or you'll see some old queen whip it out. It's calmed down a lot since the cops started busting them for indecent exposure.

There was a similar outcry by the gays some time ago in Honolulu. There is a specific park where you can go and it's basically a track for gay prostitutes. The thing is, they allow open prostitution on a massive scale a few blocks away, its just all women walking. This was the argument of the gays, and I understand.

It can be. Most western nations have enough laws on the books that everyone is essentially breaking laws all day long. At least a half dozen of my posts on any given day would break our Australian Discrimination Act.

I've had 2 fag related incidents in public restrooms. The first was at the Galleria mall in White Plains NY --10 yrs ago. I'm shopping at JC Penny with my mother. I go hit the restroom and see 2 short fat guys (white and Hispanic) just standing by the back wall (end of the urinals). I pay no attention -- maybe they're on break smoking a cig or some shit. I'm at the first urinal by the door -- the white guy runs up and takes a peak at my hammer while I'm pissing. Keep in mind, I'm about 6'0 290 at the time -- and some little fat fag is running up on me. I yell "WHAT THE FUCK YOU DOIN'!!!!" He backs the fuck up off me. The Hispanic guy runs out. Now I'm seeing red! I'm yelling/cursing! I go and take a swing at the dude -- I slip and miss and crash into the wall. I almost fell on the restroom floor -- I would've burned my clothes and skin if I touched that floor.
The 2nd fag runs out. I run out into the shopping area yelling at the fags. The staff tries to calm me down and offers us a discount on the stuff we were buying. Then some young sales guy tells me that his boss has him chasing out these fags everyday. He said he used to work at the NYSC (NY sports club) gym and he had to chase the fruits out of there as well.

2nd incident after JC Penny: I took the 7 train to Shea stadium -- get off the stop, had to take a major piss. I go to the restroom in front of the token booth -- I walk in and see an old fem white guy just standing alone in the restroom. I stop and feel the rage going thru my body. I tell him "Get the fuck out!" And kick him as he ran out.

After the 2nd time -- no more public restrooms for me. I should've learned after the first incident. I try to treat everyone fairly but some of these gay dudes are fuckin weirdos.

Isn't that just a sign of our times? Especially in Canada. Gay men who engage in illegal public sexual activity and actual sexual harassment in public restrooms are victims.
