Rocking a White Suit?
Does anyone own a white suit? On which occasions do you wear it? Which shirts, shoes and another accessoires work best along with it, especially in terms of color?

I always felt like the white suit is one of the boldest style move a man can make and I'm considering getting one just for the sake of it. (I've already got suits in other colors)

What are your thoughts?

I have one. It's an outrageous attire that looks completely out of place unless you are surrounded by people in tuxedos.

If you want to rock the all white suit, make sure that it is linen and that the jacket will go well with other pants.

Still, good luck pulling off this look outside of special high society events.

I own two. Like suits said in linen.

I like it with an orange or purple shirt but have also used something like blue. White suits really can be worn with any color.

I'll wear it whenever I'm going out, especially in new cities. It somehow makes it easier to jump into groups and often gets you approached.

The color is surprisingly forgiving of abuse because you can bleach it.

Hope you like talking about Miami Vice.

RE: Rocking a White Suit?
I bought some higher priced white jeans and white slacks this year moving to south China. While I love the look its a lot harder to pull off and not seem over dressed or at least a bit homosexual. I wear light colored dress shirts like sherbet orange, cream, blue/white striped. I try to include bright colored belts as well and highly polished shoes.

My main beef though: gets dirty as fuck. With the jeans/pants Im in the bathroom with super hot water and dish soap hand scrubbing the grime off and then throwing them in the washing machine with extra soak time. Still gets a little dingy at the cuffs and near the bottom in the inseam.

I would lose my shit with a white suit, Im too picky about stains.

^ Can't you just hit it with that industrial strength bleach they use to nuke hotel sheets/towels/everything with? Hotel linen is always white for a reason.

Bleach is a harsh chemical that will wear fabric quickly. It's effective, useful for touch ups in stained areas, but damaging if used wholesale and regularly.

I've used it to get stains out that the dry-cleaner claimed they couldn't.

Regardless of fabric damage, having more whites in your wardrobe will add more tasks to your busy schedule and for suits, compared to other light colours, you'll have to make far more trips to the dry-cleaners.

My advice, if you want to experiment with white suitwear, is to pair machine-wash white pants with jackets in other colours.

RE: Rocking a White Suit?
If you're looking for a chic pale suit for summer/warm weather, then personally I'd advise going for an off-white colour - a cream, or a white with a yellowy complexion, in linen or something else with a bit of texture. Pure white is very difficult to pull off - particularly if you're a white guy. We tend to look a little washed out in these things, even with a tan. It's amazing what a little dash of something else in the base colour will do for your overall appearance. Black guys tend to look much better in all white suits than white guys, though even there the contrast can be a little severe very often. Most people will look better in something just a shade or two away from white.

RE: Rocking a White Suit?
I have a white cotton blazer, and I will be buying a white suit if I find a bargain. Will go well with my skin, and especially beard.

If I add a red pocket square and Ray Bans, it will be like playing a FPS with God Mode and Infinite Ammo on.

Now, from what I have seen, this color is not versatile (like navy) and not for everyone. For example, Blacks, Latinos and Mediterranean looking Whites (i.e Spanish and Italians) look great in it. Asians and Germanics/Slavs...not much. As Suits said, linen is the best. Avoid polyester...you will be very, very sorry if you do not. I guarantee you that.

If you like wool, buy one that is made from at least Super 130 Wool (which is more thin). Even better if you can get better than that (i.e Super 150 - thinner).

Speaking of my blazer, I like to combine it with jeans - blue (pre distressed) and black regular ones and light blue T shirt.

I have a cream colored linen blazer for the summer. Very good to pair it with brightness (bright pants, bright shirt and a bright pocket square).

I usually rock mine with navy pants, small checkered navy and lighter blue shirt with a mostly orange with a little navy pocket square.

I imagine you've got the obligatory 'Brit Abroad' suit of beige linen?

No, I have a linen suit with much more yellow and cream in the colour than white/beige. It's subtle but quite distinctive. I look washed out in beige, and consequently never wear beige clothes, though despite my advice above white is actually a very good colour for my particular complexion. As a general rule I can usually pretty much only wear white, blue, and dark grey. Bright colours, beiges, light greys, greens and reds etc all look dreadful on me.

I've got a white sports coat. It's a Chaps one that was on the Kohl's clearance rack for $25 and I couldn't resist. I haven't worn it yet but will in the spring or summer with a pair of khaki dockers or jeans and a colourful button-down.

Guys, I am very pale skinned, but have auburn hair and eyes, which I imagine makes a white sports coat off limits for me. Thoughts?

I'm the same way as you, white as a ghost but with dark hair and eyes. I'll wear mine in the spring just wear a contrasting colour shirt and pants.

RE: Rocking a White Suit?
I always get compliments rocking a light grey or navy blazer with off-white pants, but it's hard to not come off as dressy or try-hard. If everyone is wearing a blazer than it's a good way to stand out. Make sure your pocket square, fit, ironing, collar, etc are all on point because if you throw on white pants and don't know what you're doing it looks bad
