I know there are plenty of posters who frequent the board who stay with a reasonably degree of permanency in a foreign land. There exists great data sheets on success with women but what are your social lives like for apart from women?

For instance, I stay in an old part of my large city which my family has stayed in for 100 years +. Plenty of family friends around with my family name well respected. My family's relationship with shopkeepers, religious institutions and other traditional families go way back - which provides a great deal of social proof and a strong network within my part of the city.

I suspect that I could not replicate this network in a different place even with charisma, great investments of time and money.
So, what are your social lives and networks like apart from women?

I try to find people who share similar interests as me like smoking huge reefers, diving, going to the gym, bird watching, hiking and drinking heavily and hanging out with them.

Most of the time i hang out with locals. I prefer it that way. Only place where i didn't do that was Asia, since there is still quite a barrier between tourists/expats and locals. Learning the local language is incredibly important in Asian countries if you want to stay long term.

I've met some people from a digital nomad forum but they usually end up a disappointment. I did meet this nice girl from Canada last month that i had a mini-relationship with but that's about it. Most of these nomads are a bunch of pretentious cucks that talk in code-speak.

I have lived in 6 different cities thousands of miles apart at this point and I simply have a small group of friends in each of those cities. During breaks I occasionally go and revisit them and have little reunions, it's actually great. But nothing beats your college / high school friends back in the good ol' USA.

I haven't needed more than a few good friends the last many years, and the four years I've lived in Bulgaria that's been locals fluent in English (I'm still at a fairly rudimentary level in Bulgarian).
A couple of those friendships didn't work out after a while so I currently have two remaining, one of them *gasp* a woman my own age, who's both good coffee or dinner company a few times a month as well as almost always more useful with practical, local advice than anyone else I've known here.

My contact with other foreigners here has been limited to temporary acquaintances.

It takes some legitimate work, but depending on your location, you can definitely find like minded people worth spending your time with.

One of the reasons I choose to live in Beijing is because the odds of meeting people that can I can connect with is very decent here.

It depends on the location. For example In Kiev or Medellin it's easy to find like minded guys with similar lifestyles, in Minsk or Kazakstan not so much.

There are two reliable ways I've found: work and sports.

Sports teams are the best way I've found to develop a social circle quickly. You'll meet other competitive men who tend to stay in shape, and if its the right sport they'll be of a certain social class too. I've joined cricket and rugby teams in France and a few Anglosphere countries and found them excellent for this. With a rugby team in particular you'll end up going for drinks with the team very regularly.

With work if you pick a field that tends to have a lot of young people there'll usually be a very active social life. If you work in finance or tech in a reasonable sized office there'll almost always be afterwork drinks going on a Friday, and possibly a mid-week casual sports league team in summer time you can join - tag rugby in the Anglosphere, flag football in the US etc.

Between scheduling a date or two a week, gym work/training sessions for sport, and once a week doing drinks with either work or sports mates your social schedule fills up very fast even in a new country if you want it to.

Out of necessity I suspect I cultivated a knack for learning the socio - cultural patterns of local people in any given area and act accordingly, Once the social field is clear finding like minded people comes naturally.
That said in countries with a culture similar to my own I will of course adapt more easily but in general it should be possible to find middle ground with any other cultural setting.
