I believe the max stay for a tourist card/visa is 60 days. I could be wrong. You can extend your visa, but I'm not sure under what circumstances. You have to pay a penalty if you overstay your visa, but I'm not sure how much.

Lumiere I believe you posted that you stayed for 7 months. How did you go about doing this?

You can stay as long as you want, but you have to pay a fine when exiting the country. I lived and worked in the DR for about 8 months and had to pay like 50 U$ when I left. Not sure about the actual amount, but it was no deal breaker though. You can look up the pricelist on the net, just google oficina or ministro de migracion republica dominicana or something similar.
Dont know where you re from, but thats the way it is for EU-citizens.

If by DR you mean Dominican Republic, I'd tell you to be careful with what you eat and drink there. There have been quite a few people (about 100) who have died from Cholera in the last few months. Some people who have traveled there as tourists also have gotten sick.

The max stay for tourist visa is 30 days and its granted instantly when you arrive you will buy a tourist card for $10 then about 1 minute later (10 steps) another person will take the card from you.


Over 30 days the penalty is not even enough to worry about it.

And the fee to extend you visa is almost the same as the penalty so really no benefit, plus you will have to go to santo dominigo to extend which nobody does.

Just pay it when you exit the country.

All fees are in pesos I converted to USD using current 1 dollar to 38 pesos exchange rate.

As you can see the fines are really nothing, and takes about 3 min to pay the fine when you go through customs to exit the country. Very very easy.
