Having read Steve Jobs bio, the years and bricks to the head made him grow more grounded..

I've faced my share of downs, that made me less "out there"..

Is this something all young alphas should inculcate before hand.. Something to be learnt and taught and read about/ valued from the Get Go.. ?

Even if now & then, some vanity may show up at the SURFACE, but we maintain some of this facet WITHIN..?

If you read closely, it is about "understanding reality" and shaping it.
As an Alpha you first need to actually understand what is "really" going on and the next thing is to have a vision of reshaping it.
Let's take girls as an example.

You approach, cold read, get an understanding of the girl in front of you and push your way to banging her.
You have a "vision", but you also acknowledge the reality in front of you.

I think that this is what you are referring to .

A little beyond what you mentioned..

This is short term Bravado.. and there is grounding that does not let you get complacent or over confident or over flashy..

A grounded humility is what you learn through Bad times.. and for someone who is only flying high with no lows.. there is inability to take the low..

E.g. Rock stars, Movie stars and Sports stars who fly high for short time.. over spend.. egos over blow and then poof! .. Or be it High Tech startups that are wow! today and gone in 12 months.. and their Founders whose ego is overblown at the time..

A fool and his money are soon parted..

A little GROUNDED ness would've saved quite a many from the impending disaster of their own EGOs and so on..

Over confidence has happened to me.. and then you learn..

PS: This beyond girls, but more to do with life and how one keeps ROOTED/ GROUNDED..

Imagine if MJ, B Spears and many such others had some kind of Rooeted ness/ Grounding.. or used to meditate etc..?

Instead of jumping from one flashy short lived emotion to the next..

Why do so many "over fortunate" flashy folks fall into bad drugs?

As someone said to me once... Nothing/ Noone can fill that hole in your soul..

Lack of grounding..
