10 Grand travel plan
Hi

I have 10, 000 Euro saved up which I am going to spend on traveling. Where would people recommend going bearing in mind I want to travel for as long as I can. Also any tips on keeping costs down and making money stretch.

Eastern Europe (EE), South East Asia (SEA) or South America (SA). But you have to pick one to avoid transcontinental flights. If you do you can easily last half year with this sum. I advice you choose 1 of these 3 countries as a base. Colombia, Ukraine or Philippines.

Read my World Travel Log to see my experiences in SEA and SE. And I am going to EE next

Hire me for a consultancy on how to use the search option in internet forums for a 1.000 Euro. The remainder of the money will then be spent much more wisely.

You could last way longer than 6 months on 10k in EE or SEA.

RE: 10 Grand travel plan
That could last you a year somewhat comfortably in most Latin American cities or obviously last you a bit longer in SEA.

RE: 10 Grand travel plan
There have been a lot of questions like this lately.

Please, be more specific with the question. Saying "travel" for "as long as possible" is not enough. One place? Many?

What are you hoping to accomplish, for how long, what amount of moving around, what level of living standards? How old are you?

And to the people who answer, you can live a long time in such and such region PLEASE tell us exactly what country.

Too many people say "you can live in south america for a long time." Useless fucking post.

I've been to every country in South America. How about some details responders please.

I'd love to answer but ask a better question.

RE: 10 Grand travel plan
How far you can go with your budget depends on your lifestyle. Some extra details on what you are expecting would be helpful.

Thailand was the best for me cost and lifestyle wise. I lived there for 6 months in 2015 (Bangkok) and overall i think i spent just a little over 10k. I stayed in the Ekamai area (very nice) and had a nice modern flat for 17k baht a month. Go outside of Bangkok and your costs of living are even lower.

Cambodia was very cheap too but the quality of living and women is lower than Thailand. Sihanoukville was great, you can live the careless beach lifestyle there for very cheap, i spent about $800 a month, give or take.

Overall i think SEA is your best bet when it comes to cost, women, partying and travelling around. But thats just my opinion. I'm in the process of moving to EE (Poland) but in writing this i'm really starting to question my decision and thinking of booking a one way ticket to Bangkok, in fact, fuck it, i'm going to book one right now.

Why not West Africa? You could get a flight to Morocco for relatively cheap (500-700 dollars on Skyscanner, taking a flight from Paris to Agadir or Dakhla) then doing an overland down the coast. It would be a badass trip, and once you got out of the more heavily Islamic countries (Morocco, Mauritania), you shouldn't have any problem getting laid. It would be one hell of an adventure and probably better than freezing your balls off in Ukraine. If you know some Arabic or French you're set. Countries like Senegal and Ghana are totally safe, places like Sierra Leone less so, but they're still completely doable.

If you're thinking about Morocco, send me a PM. Akwesi could help you with Ghana I'm sure.

RE: 10 Grand travel plan
I think you would be well served if you:

1) researched a bit
2) Then asked more refined questions

You asked very broad questions and are asking everyone to do the work for you. We also have no idea how you live or could live. There are guys that need very little in terms of luxury and there are others that have extreme demands.

We also have no idea if you want to be where the action is like in a capital city or in some random village of 10K people.

So I suggest maybe doing some work on your end. And then come back and say you found 5 interesting places and you have some specific questions.

Also there are many threads like yours so it should be easy to piggyback off what others have said. For example, this one /thread-60949...pid1499759

Good luck, have fun and be safe on your journey!

I would say it depends on the specific goals and purposes of OP (he hasn't really told us much), but if we're talking about making money stretch for a long time I'm not sure West Africa is the best option. You can certainly travel the region on a shoestring, and it would be a great adventure, but to me it just wouldn't be enjoyable, due to a lack of comfort and safety (thinking more in terms of traffic and health issues than crime). In Ukraine (and SEA, from what I've read) you can actually have a pretty comfortable existence without spending very much at all, this is simply not possible in Africa.

When was the last time some random guy, who claims to love the forum and is a long time lurker first time poster, who expects concierge service and gets mad when people suggest searching, comes back and gives some sort of an update or contribution? After some guys have to tried to help the poster. I am curious if anyone can show such a link.
