82-year-old Chuck Missler, having enjoyed a remarkably distinguished and fulfilling life and career, shares about elderly women and their propensity to follow their hard-wired SMV instincts even into old age: speaking of his old Annapolis buddies when he reconnects with them decades later, he says,

"[The career military men, unless they have something to live for other than the military, peter out after retirement], but the ones who have the most serious problems are the wives, because they have NO identity. The guys still have a little identity, because they're on a committee with the Pentagon or something, but the women are no longer The Admiral's Wife.... In fact, it's such a serious problem, the Navy's done some studies to figure out what to do, because most of the divorces occur after retirement."

Having lived a charmed life married to an Officer and a Gentleman, these ancient broads still can't age gracefully and reflect on the good times they've been privileged to enjoy; rather, it's Onto the Next New Shiny Thing once their trophy husbands no longer excite them and impress their girlfriends.

This would never happen, of course, except for No-Fault divorce laws and mandatory spousal support, but that's another subject for another venue.

I lunched with Chuck once, and I will never forget what he, a man of integrity (and one wife until her death), said about all the girls he used to have crushes on in his youth: "Every time I attend a 20th or 30th Reunion Party, I'm mindful to give thanks for all the times my prayers [to get a particular girl] we're NOT answered."

In other words, The Wall spares no cutie.

Honestly, marriage has become such a risky proposition, I don't know why men choose to even bother with it anymore. It's amazing how a woman can be married to a military man for most her life and still know nothing of honor or loyalty.

This isn't just retiring officers. Women leave men when they exit the military regardless of rank or tenure, although its been dropping as a whole number for some time.

I believe the internet has been very helpful for young service men in this regard. Just like the men who correspond on forums like this compare notes about their experiences with women, military forums are very active and leave an enduring record of the terrible things that have happened to men in uniform at the hands of the women that "love" them. The percentage of men getting married while serving has been dropping like a stone for a decade. You can't be divorced if you are never married.

Women hanging around based looking to get knocked up is still a thing, but service men compare notes here too and are more aware of the phenomena now than in the past.
