What do you do when a girl tries to give you validation? For example, I was doing something I had never done before and I made a stupid mistake. I played it off cool and laughed about it and laughed at myself. I said something like "what do you expect you know I'm dumb and make stupid mistakes a lot". With most girls including this girl, I subtly show off that I am above average in intelligence without coming off as cocky or at least I try, just to make them aware of my value. So this girl knows about my academic achievements and so on and I thought she knew it was a joke but later that day she must have thought I was bummed out about it and asked me what was wrong. I said nothing was wrong and we continued on. I was at an event with her later that day and I had to tend to an emergency and left without saying anything to her because she wasn't within eyesight and I had to go that instant. She texted me like five or 6 times asking where I was, why I didn't say goodby, asked me to come back to work on something with her, then she said you are not stupid and should never say that about yourself. How do I respond to that, I don't need validation and I don't want to come off as a needy person who does. I feel like a simple thanks would be too standoffish and unappreciative or an "omg you're so sweet" would come off as too needy. A long time ago, I learned the hard way not to seek validation from girls you want to hook up with. It cost me a lot of hookups and I have since never tried to get anyone's approval, so help me out here.
