Wendy’s installing self-order kiosks to offset $15/hr minimum wage.
Of course this was coming. Minimum wage was meant for kids to get some work experience, it's not supposed to be a lifelong career choice. But people want an artificially high payment for their labor. Instead, they get replaced.
The woman's sign reads, "It's my $$$$ and I need it now." No, sweetheart, you're just getting yourself fired. Also, notice the professionally printed signs - this is a paid group of "spontaneous" protesters.
Quote:Fast-food restaurant chain Wendy’s will install self-order kiosks at 1,000 stores across the country by the end of 2017 to trim extra labor costs imposed by minimum wage hikes, NJ Advance Media reported.
Wendy’s said it already offered to install kiosks in several locations last year and has received positive feedback from customers and franchisees who say they want more of the service.
The company said the kiosks, which cost about $15,000 each, would reduce labor costs and appeal to younger customers. Other companies, including Panera Bread, say the kiosks increase employees’ productivity and are especially valuable during lunchtime and other rush-hours.
Breitbart News reported that several Wendy’s franchises were struggling because of wage costs in 2016. California’s franchise-owned Wendy’s were struggling with the state’s $10 minimum wage while franchise-owned Wendy’s restaurants in New York could not offset the higher minimum wage in the state, where the minimum wage is $15.
Wendy’s franchises “will likely look at the opportunity to reduce overall staff, look at the opportunity to certainly reduce hours and any other cost reduction opportunities, not just price,” Wendy’s CEO Emil Brolick said in 2015.

Only the employer and the prospective employee should determine what the wage will be.
The bureaucrats can try to engage in their immoral and destructive tinkering, but the market will stay one step ahead of the game.
The real losers are those kids (and rehabilitated ex-cons, and old pensioners) who aren't quite worth it to an employer right now, but with training and time could have been great investments.

When I used to work minimum wage I worked with a bunch of lazy bastards. I ended up doing twice as much as some people because of my "Protestant work ethic."
This is why I moved forward in life, and they are being replaced by machines.

$15,000?
At 15/hr and 40 hour weeks and 50 week year, each machine pays off in about 6 months if it replaces the equivalent of just one full time employee. (of course, it can't clean, flip burgers, etc...yet)
If you own a busy franchise? It's a no brainer.

I don't mind if some Mcdonald's cashier is making $15/hr. Chances are it'll increase productivity and he'll be more inclined to provide better service. I also wouldn't mind paying more for a product if that's what it takes to pay these people more.
It's a win-win situation the way I look at it. Put away your silly notions of what people are "worth" to the side for a second.
Yes if you take the position that the average fast food worker will say "now I'm getting more, I have more incentive to work harder" then sure.
If you take the position that the average fast food worker will say "these fools paid me more, and it's still difficult to fire me" then no.

And the machines:
*Aren't "permanently agrieved".
*Dont have garbage attitudes.
*Won't file worker comp claims.
*Don't require any benefits.
*Don't do drama.
*Etc...
I was in a Dunkin Donuts ~2 weeks ago. The women? at the counter 100% were meth heads. The faces, the teeth. No fucking way was I going to interact with them, let alone have them have any contact with anything I'm ingesting. I walked out. Give me a robot/computer over that any day.

Yes, and I have faith that most employees would in fact work harder given a higher wage. Fact is, they already work hard. It may not be mentally stressful, but it is repetitive and physical work. As the richest country in the world, surely we can afford a pay raise for these people.
Manosphere loses its shit because Wendy's employees ask for a pay raise yet not a peep about Gary Cohn walking away from Goldman Sachs with $300 million
If you hate poor people, just say so.

Have you ever worked in fast food? It's about 50% high school/college kids and the remaining 50% are the dregs of society. Insane levels of turnover.
I worked and managed in fast food for a couple years in college. Most of the delivery drivers were college kids making $15-20 per hour including tips. They made the same amount hourly as the in-shop workers, which started at $8 an hour. But they used their own cars and paid for their own gas. The in-shoppers were either college kids without cars or drug addicts. A lot of them went to the methadone clinic every morning or had DUI's.
Everyone started at minimum wage and after they proved themselves, they got raises. They'd quickly get 50 cent or 1 dollar raises.
The amount of slacking and excuse making was astounding. Sometimes I'd sit in the back and watch the employees from the security camera monitor while on break. I'd catch employees stealing bites of products, standing around talking when there was work to be done, and all sorts of other shit. I'd also quickly see who actually worked hard when they thought no one was watching. I'd let my GM know who needed a raise and I'd write up the ones who were worthless.
I have no problem with fast food employees making $15 an hour. But thinking that by starting them off with that because they might work harder is ridiculous. A crackhead with face tattoos will be a worthless employee regardless of whether you start them of at $8 or $15 an hour. Let the losers weed themselves out and reward the employees who deserve it. A lot of the good employees end up working their way to management and the ones that stick around sometimes get six figure corporate gigs with the company.
But this entitlement attitude needs to fuck right off. No one is entitled to $15 an hour or even $5. What value do you bring to the table? Why do you deserve to be paid anything? This is true in every industry, not just fast food.

RE: Wendy’s installing self-order kiosks to offset $15/hr minimum wage.
Every male fast food worker could get an entry level job in construction that pays at least 50% more.
BUT
They would have to work really hard, get really dirty every single day. Cell phone DOES NOT come out while you are on the clock. Most people just won't do it.
Upside is when I worked construction i was in by far the best shape of my life. Swinging a sledge is great for core strength.

That is abundantly clear, because...

Their "worth" as "a person" has absolutely NOTHING to do with their pay rates. As "persons" I and Tom Brady have the same "worth." However, our VALUE in terms of our work product is vastly different.
Put away your silly notions that everyone is entitled to everything without consequences.

Places like Wendy's and McDolnalds run such huge and bloated operations they don't make that much profit. People have this idea that a bunch of Franchise owners and CEOs just print money off monkey labour and hamburger sales, but it is far from the truth. They barley make profits each year.
Eh....your stance inherently ignores the fact that everyone wants something for nothing. Everyone wants a Ferrari, but no one wants to pay up for it.
But really, who would pay more for fast food? Fast food is the last option for many.
I can't speak for individual franchise locations, but let me assure you companies like MCD/WEN at least those 2 make very good money.
