Good god, I saw a preview about this and wondered why I hadn't heard of her. Should have realized as a Disney film it was more propaganda.

1628? Shit, my rating was in the 1500's in the prime of my dicking around on chess.com. While I find it awesome and highly commendable that a girl from the slums of Uganda would even become a decent chess player, propping her up as some sort of genius prodigy reeks of propaganda.

As for her ranking, I'm seeing 91,536 among "active" players, and 178,950 among "all players," whatever that means exactly.

Interesting side-note: Her rank among female active players is 5,349. That means over 94% of the top ~91.5k chess players are male. Brace yourselves for the inevitable sob story about misogyny in the world of chess holding women back.

It is an Ugandan movie with Western funding:





But I see a big problem there - lack of diversity - more Whites needed, more Asians, more Indians in this racist Ugandan movie.
Also I see a strong homophobic undertone as there are no gay and transgender role models represented in the movie. In addition there is a foreboding feeling of Islamophobia due to a lack of Muslim role models - I see many more oppressed young Muslim men joining ISIS because of movies as this.

All in all - a terrible movie of black supremacism and shocking lack of diversity.
