Just saw this: Female traffic light signals to go up at pedestrian crossing as Committee for Melbourne tackles 'unconscious bias'

Quote:Ten female pedestrian figures will be installed on traffic lights at the intersection of Swanston and Flinders streets as part of a VicRoads-approved 12-month trial.

The Committee for Melbourne — a non-profit organisation comprising more than 120 Melbourne business and community groups — is behind the move.

Chief executive Martine Letts said having only green or red silhouettes of men discriminated against women.

"The idea is to install traffic lights with female representation, as well as male representation, to help reduce unconscious bias," she said.

Ms Letts said the group wanted to see female and male representation on all pedestrian crossings.

"The aim is to move towards one-to-one male and female representation across the state of Victoria."

It costs an average of $8,400 to change six traffic lights.

Currently because the lights only allow able-bodied men, women, children, the elderly and dogs are unable to cross the streets in our great feminist City of Melbourne. They just all stand there confused and sad. This is a critical situation and must be fixed with all our available resources!

If they just replaced them, as they needed replacing, it'd be hard to have much reaction to this at all.

But wasting money replacing working lights, to meet the bizarre goal of 50/50 representation of traffic signals? It just makes you shake your head in bemusement at where some peoples priorities lie.

Victoria is very crime-ridden. Since 2016, we've been having problems with the Apex gang, a violent gang of Sudanese refugees originating from the eastern suburb of Dandenong.

Female street signs should be the last of our worries.

I've also heard that the ABC are gonna be having exclusively women on the air tomorrow due to it being Women's Day or some shit.

One of us could do some real damage if we were ever inclined to get a pointless, bureaucratic government job.
