Not surprising that the video commentary tries so desperately to undermine the whole concept. Subtle digs at Russian men, and the unrelenting attempts to portray American feminism as superior.

They just can't present the facts as they are without putting the usual Western shitlib spin on everything.

I love Russian ladies... but... don't go so fast. Apart from taking better care of themselves while young and/or single, they are not that different.

Russia and Belarus top the divorce rate statistics, followed closely by Moldova in 5th, Lithuania in 6th and Ukraine in 11th place, highlighting former FSU countries (USA is the third placed for the record).

That and the reality is that much of the "2nd wave feminism" was just manufactured pro-corporate propaganda; after WWII corporations (owned and operated by rich white men) realized how much more they could maximize profits if they could convince women to think that they would be "liberated" by slaving for 50 hours a week in a cubicle to help increase the shareholders' profit margins.

The goal was of course simply to get women to trade a husband for a cold impersonal corporation as her "protector"; likewise the state has attempted to game the welfare system and use it as a surrogate for a husband in order to increase dependency on them and secure future voters.

I like this idea.

And the 'counterpoint' voiceover is a bunch of bollocks-the Soviets did everything they could do to damage families and prevent them having any real substance-easy divorce, taking power away from parents and giving it to State hirelings, declaring in a couple of famous instances that every woman over 18 was 'state property' and all babies born to be property of the revolution, and being one of the first to legalise abortion.

When a country that had nearly a century of communism still has enduring ideas about church and family and their positive influence on society, clearly those ideas matter much more. If the state won't take any interest in your children besides educating and arresting them, that is going to create a demand for stronger families, surely?
No doubt a fair few Russian men drink themselves to death, which has knock-on effects-it's a shame for society at large that the matchmaker isn't married and raising three or four babies but eh. At least her message has a positive effect.
