"Marge Swanson, a fat acceptance activist who helped pioneer the concept of thin privilege, is dead from a heart attack. She was 34 years old. Swanson championed the notion that weight and health have no inherent connection. She enjoyed dying her hair bright colors, wearing glasses and dating African American men.

“It’s not that I’m thin-phobic,” she once told an audience on a college campus. “It’s just that curvy women have been enslaved and victimized by capitalists for far too long and yeah, I’m upset.”

Swanson was born the middle of five children to a working class family in rural West Virginia. She was overweight as a child, and by her senior year of high school weighed over 350 pounds. She would later describe her teenage years as the most difficult period of her life.

“People can be so intolerant of others,” she later wrote. “My classmates were such judgmental, privileged assholes.”

In college, Swanson found acceptance among a group of intersectional feminists. “First I learned to love myself, and that helped me become a happier person. Then I learned about white supremacy and thin privilege, and I got pissed.”

After finishing college, Swanson moved into a studio apartment. She had trouble securing a full-time job due to “systemic ableism,” so she started a blog. Within a year, she had attracted a worldwide audience. Swanson became a big voice in the fat acceptance community, where she sought to raise awareness about the impact of fat phobia, which includes expressing concern over someone’s size (“concern trolling“) or associating obesity with health issues.

“I don’t want to compare struggles, but Harriet Tubman fought a similar battle,” Swanson once told a reporter. “Women in larger bodies are seriously underrepresented among athletes and models. Oppression and discrimination are the only logical reasons why this is occurring.”

Some doctors, who Swanson called “psychological terrorists,” affirmed her message of self-acceptance but warned about the practice of endorsing unhealthy body types amidst skyrocketing obesity rates. Additional concerns were raised about the fat acceptance movement’s use of dangerously unscientific or misrepresented concepts, like the belief that weight and health have no clear relationship. The promotion of obesity, some have said, is no different than advocating for anorexia.

“When people learn that I’m 412 pounds, they assume that means I’m inactive or unhealthy,” she wrote in her blog last year. “I’m actually one of the most health conscious people you’ll ever meet. The myth that obesity has any relationship to health is absolutely ridiculous.”

In 2015, Swanson was diagnosed with heart and gallbladder disease. The reality of her mortality, she claimed, only deepened her commitment to fight against weight related injustices.

“I may have a few bad cells, but my health has not been affected,” she told fans on her website. “Thin privilege is a far greater menace to health than having a few extra curves.”


There's really nothing to add other than, I thought this was satire (fatire?) but it's legit.

Besides describing his vacation, Moe shows Tuscaloosa's anthem on MyTube to the citizens where it is the same as their anthem which caused various reactions from the citizens like Dewey Largo pushing the piano off the stage, Kirk and Luann Van Houten spilling the drinks and stepping on the cups, and the Rich Texan wonders what to do with guns when a person is angry. When Sideshow Mel claims it to be an amazing musical coincidence, Moe then shows the anthems on MyTube where the cities that used the generic anthem outside of Tuscaloosa have included but are not limited to Austin, Texas, Oakland, California, Calgary, Provo, Utah, Ulan Bator (their anthem is sung by four Mongols), and Area 51 (their anthem is sung by a guard and three aliens). Moe states that every town has their own version of the same anthem including Des Moines, Iowa. Mayor Quimby identifies that the song was written by former mayor Hans Moleman as the citizens converge on him. Hans admitted that he bought the anthem from a salesman that's been selling it to half the towns in North America and stated that he didn't think anyone would find out since he thought nobody goes anywhere outside of Springfield. Groundskeeper Willie states that he can't do away with the anthem's lyrics on his chest and that he'll never be buried in a Jewish cemetery. When Hans Moleman begs for mercy, the citizens tie up Hans Moleman and put him on a horse which gallops into the desert. Lisa says to Mayor Quimby that she could write a new anthem. Pharrell Williams shows up and says that he could also write one. Mayor Quimby states that Lisa offered to write one first and Pharrell starts to recite his song "Happy." The citizens then give Pharrell the same punishment as Moleman where Pharrell states "Springfield Drools, Shelbyville Rules."

Lisa and Bart compose a new anthem called "Why Springfield, Why Not" and perform it with the other students. Homer has difficulty sitting in his seat at the performance due to his obesity. When he must stand to give a standing ovation, he tears out his row of seats, causing destruction to the theater. Marge demands that he joins a weight-control group, but the one he joins run by the mobility scooter-bound Albert states that obesity is beautiful. They cause a disruption outside a fashion store which they claim promotes unrealistically thin figures and all are arrested.

Marge arrives to bail Homer on condition that he leave the group and start a diet, but he refuses and returns to jail with his obese friends. Lisa and Bart try to compose a song to convince Homer to leave the group, but argue so much that they never perform it. Marge points out that Homer should not follow Albert, who she says is too lazy to walk. He attempts to get up from his scooter to prove her wrong, but suffers a fatal heart attack.

At the funeral, Albert was shown to have been cremated and his ashes were stored in a bunch of jars. Homer delivers a eulogy where on learning that the deceased was only 23, pleads for the obese people to lose weight. He and Marge walk home as he promises to yo-yo diet, and a montage shows Homer's physique changing drastically with his age.

In the final scene, Hans Moleman is still being galloped into the desert as he finally says "Whoa" to stop the horse. He then comments that he should have done that in the first place.

In her recommendation letter to Glennwood High School, Ms. Cordova suggested that the boys’ bathroom be renamed in honor of the late Mary Wollstonecraft. “If anything will stop these boys from hating women, it’s a simple history lesson.”

People don't learn it, since its so profoundly apparent to the naked eye.

Yes, assumptions are the mother of all fuck ups, save for cases of obesity. It's basically putting a stamp on their forehead "I am a lazy slob who eats absolute crap". Sure, medical problems can render a person inactive, but they're likely the ones that had no appreciation of calories in/out and somehow think it doesn't apply.

In Australia we've got a very graphic and factual anti-obesity campaign (similar to anti-smoking) that I'm sure is triggering for all the fatties out there.

I noticed some of their advertising on public transport recently that had me nodding my head.

This article may be satire, but there are an alarming amount of fat imbeciles out there that actually believe there are no negative health effects to being overweight. That or their definition of overweight/unhealthy is not based in reality.

The president of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, Jason Docherty died of complications from pneumonia in 2015 at the age of 46.

Brother Docherty obviously lifted heavy weights every time he got out of bed:

Token Fat Girl blogger dies. 30 years old. Guess what the cause of death was? She was purportedly running a weight loss blog, but unless you could see what she was posting (that was 3 years ago) I doubt it was anything super effective. Indeed there are other sites that indicate she was a fat activist, healthy-at-any-size shit.

A friend of the family works as a part time celebrant.

She mentioned that on one of her first cremation events, she was surprised to see a mass of black smoke billowing from the chimney of the funeral parlour.
To the point where she thought the building may be on fire.

No. No drama in that regard.
They were simply burning a fat bastard & apparently they have to regulate the flames -just right- so that all the masses of body fat burn off.
You can't just shove the fat folk in the chamber under normal circumstances & expect a clean burn.

Well - it's more like a conservative The Onion. Still - plenty of truth in it. Just don't claim it to be right. On the other hand those fatties die often in their 40s and 50s - most don't live to their 60s for sure.
