Quote:A Russian MP who fled Moscow fearing for his life at the hands of President Putin's secret service was shot dead today in the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Denis Voronenkov, who had testified against the pro-Russian former Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych, was assassinated in broad daylight.

His bodyguard was injured but fired back, wounding the assassin. Both have been taken to hospital after the shooting outside a luxury hotel.

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko said it was an 'act of state terrorism' by Russia and added: 'It clearly shows the handwriting of Russian special services shown repeatedly in various European capitals in the past.'

But Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: 'We believe that all the falsehoods that can already be heard about much-hyped Russian involvement are absurd.'

Nikolai Kovalyov, a former Russian security chief who is now an MP, told Russian state television the killing could have been rooted in a business dispute.

The 45-year-old fled Moscow in October with his wife Maria Maksakova, an opera singer, saying they were fed up of the 'schizophrenic' Russian government.

Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Yuriy Lutsenko blamed the Kremlin for Voronenkov's killing, saying Russia wanted to punish him for his testimony to Ukrainian investigators.

Last month, in an interview with Radio Free Europe, Voronenkov compared Putin's Russia with Nazi Germany and said the annexation of the Crimea in 2014 was 'illegal' and a 'mistake'.

In that interview he said he was not interested in Ukrainian politics and only wanted to raise the couple's 10-month-old son.

Well if he truly did want to get away from Putin and the FSB, Kiev is probably not the safest choice.

Reminds me of Boris Nemtsov case.

Just read it also in a Ukainian news outlet, my take, false flag by Poroshenko or proxies.

He was killed just in front of Kiev Premier Palace Hotel, in Taras Schevhenko Blv, the street that goes all the way down to Arena City and Kreschatyk.

Apparently the murdered politician has been creating somewhat of a stink after being against the reintegration of Crimea in Russia's parliament, and then fled Russia shortly after starting to receive pressure for it. In particular, he went on record as saying that the takeover of Crimea was decided by "a single person" and a lot of the Russian political establishment was against it off the record.

The anti-corruption opposition critic Navalny came out recently accusing the murdered as vastly understating his assets (not that's there's anything new with that). He was also suspected of involvement in criminal takeover of real estate worth $5m, but it's unclear if this investigation was politically motivated.

News reports claim the guy's bodyguard managed to put a couple of bullets in the assassin, who was captured, but died from his wounds.

If you are running away from Putin, why would you run to Ukraine? Man almost got half of Ukraine anyway. At least run somewhere else.
