When a new style of seat suddenly appeared on Mexico City's metro system, it was labelled as inappropriate, uncomfortable, humiliating and embarrassing.
It was supposed to be.

The seat, moulded to include a protruding penis and chest, was designed to highlight sexual harassment experienced by female passengers.

The explanation next to the men-only label read: "It is uncomfortable to sit here, but that is nothing compared to the sexual violence that women suffer on their daily journeys."

The seat is not a permanent fixture, but part of a campaign launched by UN Women and the Mexico City authorities called #NoEsDeHombres, which aimed to highlight sexual harassment on public transport.

The worst part of do nothing campaigns like this is the realization that mexico as a country is a shit hole for drug cartels. They would rather cater to the feelings of a handful of feminist "do nothings" than solve the drug cartel wars and assassinations of judges and politicians

In my experience D.F. is a world unto itself.

The place is extraordinarily safe by Mexican standards. And that's half the problem. Issues like drug wars and homicides don't affect most people in D.F., hence why this bullshit gets onto the public transportation system.

Its only safe because it has hundreds or thousands of heavily armed military personnel ready to cut those cartel sicarios in half.

Cartels are only powerful where they're allowed to roam free. If a real military effort was made to pacify them they would be dead within a year but the corruption is so endemic and extends into their soul you'd simply be replacing one group of killers with another.

Displays like this throw into sharp relief how ineffective feminism really is. Right now, as we speak, how many women are being raped, murdered, or forced to swallow heroin capsules as drug mules for the cartels?

Feminists don't fuck with these guys...because real misogyny is terrifying and women are cowards. In fact, women are so cowardly that it's not even an insult to call a woman a coward---"woman" and "coward" are, for the most part, synonymous. So they whine about the 9 am commute and pretend they're facing down the "patriarchy" in a meaningful way. They pile on weaklings/faggots/cucks because they know these guys don't have the balls to tell them to fuck off.

Not long ago, Mexico City rolled out an absurd pink rape whistle campaign, giving away tons of whistles that women were supposed to use if they felt threatened. As always, these feel-good programs are not well conceived and are more about raising a politician's profile than solving a real problem. The city seems to do this more and more frequently in its pathetic desire to be considered a vanguard city.

What drives these stunts?

1. The influence a small group of Mexican feminist activists in government who identify with US feminists and want to bring that battle here.

2. Pandering to the female vote. Remember, women already have separate cars they can use on the metro with TONS of room and they pay the same fare.

I don't see a visible sexual violence problem in Mexico City or even catcalling. Very recently, a taxi driver complimented a woman, calling her 'guapa' (pretty) and she has very publicly filed an official complaint with the city. This is a class issue and the social media response has not been kind to her. What is true is that many women do not feel safe after dark and will often not venture out after dark unless necessary.

But the metro is not particularly dangerous or hostile for women, as those of you who have been here know. If anything, men are overly chivalrous on the metro, sometimes offering their seat to any woman. Just today, I saw a young man offer his seat to an old man, who immediately offered it to a young but obese woman. I'd estimate that about 20% of metro riders are women, although it depends on the time of day and which metro line.

A lot of women here do not work outside the home; instead, they stay at home, cook, clean and raise the kids, especially if their economic opportunities are not good. Professional women -- the kind who engineered this campaign -- would NOT BE CAUGHT DEAD taking the metro. That is strictly for the unwashed masses.
