Regarding her statement that Emmett grabbed and verbally abused her, she simply said, 'that part's not true,' according to Tyson [the interviewer].

She claims she doesn't remember anything else about the evening.

He said: 'She was glad things had changed [and she] thought the old system of white supremacy was wrong, though she had more or less taken it as normal at the time.'

Putting racial angles aside, it's tragicomic to see how all popular rape stories are unraveling at a record pace, even the ones from half a century ago. One might think that the rate of false reports of rape might be a tad higher than the 2% reported in the mainstream media...

There have been studies on the subject. Several. The numbers vary pretty wildly, but even if you take the mean average of these studies it's actually close on 25% or more. Wiki it.

Her claim is that she made the accusation after the fact to get her then-husband acquitted.

Now, we can debate whether she's telling the truth about that aspect of the story or not, but there's a big difference between Till being killed because of her accusation and her accusation coming after Till died.

Considering that lynchings were still fairly common at that time, it's possible they killed him for some other reason, which would explain why it didn't happen until several days after the fact.

That's what recently got a bunch of feminists all riled up about the novel To Kill A Mockingbird.

For those of you who are lucky to have never been forced to read over-hyped mediocre mid-20th century message fiction back in high school English, Mockingbird was about a poor rural white girl falsely accusing a black man of rape. The White Man is Evil has been a progressive trope for about 90 years now and the book was in full swing on that. The girl and her family were the most slack jawed white trash crackers that ever crackered and the black guy was as upright as a Huxtable kid.

Now, that's not to say that innocent--and upright-- black men have never hung, literally, for rapes they didn't commit or that there aren't bottom of the barrel white people out in the sticks. But Mockingbird had an agenda that progressives were cool with and in The Current Year the White Man™ Is Very Evil. Until some feminists recently got their granny panties in a non-binary twist because they didn't like how a novel written by a woman was about a woman lying about being raped to spite a man. And while it is still very cool to hate The Evil White Man™, to some it's not ok when a woman is not being believed. Not to mention they often call Atticus Finch, the white lawyer who defends the black guy pro bono, the real racist. Why? Because defending a black man in court in the deep south in the early 20th century and lending a helping hand perpetuates white privilege, or something like that.

The explanation for current reactions is even simpler than tha. A lot of the rank and file are too stupid for any level of thought more advanced than simply emoting pre-programmed feelings in response to trigger words and concepts.
