About two years ago, there was a viral story about some Wall Street intern that quit her job to become a porn star:

At 8:30 she discusses her first client which was some older guy. She describes him as being in good shape for his age and saying that he's a guy that she might have slept with anyways. Immediately after she says "this is obviously what I tell myself cause I don't want to feel so about being a piece of shit".

Also at 10:55, she talks about another appointment with a hedge fund manager where prior to the sex, she was hanging out with the guy and talking to him about finance stuff because if she was gonna bang the guy, she wanted to at least like the guy somewhat to make it more palatable and then immediately admits she was trying to justify everything, again using the reasoning that she would have slept with the guy anyways even if the guy wasn't paying for it.

With "being real" given greater importance with the current generation, are we going to see a greater amount of millennial women straight out saying that they backward rationalize decisions they've made in the past with no real shame? Granted, this girl is a Youtuber and the people in that genre make it a point to be as TMI and reveal as much personal details about parts of their lives that they probably wouldn't even share directly with their family but I'm wondering if that sort of attitude will filter down to regular people, especially with how younger teens are so much more reliant on getting their mannerisms and worldview from social media personalities. Combine that with people being less and less affected by shame and I can see more and more people straight up admitting crap and shady behavior without feeling the need to hide it out of embarrassment.

I think everyone rationalises to some degree, obviously women do it way more. It's a human tendency generally to make decisions first out of instinct and then come up with reasons why afterward. If you're truly honest with yourself you generally are able to spot this more and more. It's better to realise that you as a human are an illogical being and accept that rather than try to twist it to try to protect your ego. It's not really worth pretending you're always rational.

This is self-deception to the highest degree.
No other name for it.
She is no better and no worse that any other female in history trying to justify questionable life choices.
It's just now she has the internet and more importantly beta orbiters to give her attention and validation for her "new life path".

There was a girl i used to bang out a few years ago.

This is a form of cognitive dissonance. Scott Adams talks about it a lot in his new book, Win Bigly, Persuasion in a World Where Facts Don't Matter. Basically we often make decisions for emotional reasons or to avoid upsetting the stories we tell ourselves, like "I am not a whore." So this girl looks for reasons desperately, and even creates a youtube video explaining, how she is not a whore. Some people call this plausible deniability. Some people call this hamstering. Scott Adams says you can be persuasive by offering people a a "fake because" or a reason to do something. Ultimately it works because of the psychological concept of cognitive dissonance.

And men are not immune to it. You see a nice pair of tits and you rationalize wasting your time watching this girl's video. Or you go to a car dealership and the salesman has you sit in the car that is beyond your budget because they want to emotionally hook you on more so you will sell yourself.

Women are perfectly aware about their excuses and self-deceit and deceit of others. But from their perspective it is justified because in their mind life is not what really happens - life is what feelings come and go inside them. So if lies are necessary to produce the right feelings then they will do it.

Man can do it too but they usually must face realities of life to succeed so they know they must put their feelings aside and strive for more objective measurements of success.

I think this is much less a male/female issue then an issue of being spoiled and entailed and usually women get away with this but in SJW generation the soy boys do so too.

In this case a hooker rationalizing how she hooked up and got away with it and got easy money and "life experience" is just result of society being insensitive about it. Imagine a man in her place bragging about he robbed people on the street and how he got away with it and got easy money and "life experience" - it's the same thing. Both of them are descending low to satisfy their hunger for money at that point and then rationalize it later to not feel bad about their past. Only difference is that the society will get insensitive and soft about women's sins using sexuality as weapon but is unforgiving about men's sins using strength as weapon.

It's about respect. I could only get through about 10 seconds of this video with all of her swearing and head-bobbing worldly hip-hop attitude. This is not a woman who is in any way truly ashamed of her past and wanting to get beyond it. She's just turned herself from merely a whore to an attention-whore.

Good input. I think a lot of people posting here missed how she basically admitted directly in the video that she was rationalizing, at least for a moment. We talk about hamstering constantly on this forum so the idea of that isn't new. What rather stood out to me was rather she her straight up admitting, in front of thousands of viewers that she was hamstering. It was like a light lit up for a moment while she was in her train of thought but then it went off again and she continued on with her story. I was wondering the reason for this and the explanation I had was the "keep it real and tell it all" Youtube culture but I was wondering if people had also seen this while dealing with girls in the real world.

Women, especially younger women can be super candid and TMI about stuff they've done in the past. I've had girls straight up tell me their notch count even when I didn't ask nor was discussing anything sexual, about times they will take guys home from a club and swap dudes in the middle of the night with their friends, talk about times they've cheated, admit to being attention whores that want guys to check them out any time they enter a room and such. Hamstering requires the girl to have a certain amount of shame since the whole purpose of hamstering is to justify reasons for their behavior in order to alleviate shame but is it really needed when people feel less and less shame about their behavior, whatever it is?

Exactly. It's like a glitch in the Matrix.

I have talked with a Jungian therapist about this sort of thing and to him it is completely normal, almost as if every woman has multiple personality disorder, and different personalities take over as needed, some aware of the others, some not.

Now, he might say that these are different personal archetypes coming out, or maybe complexes, but the result is the same, and what you are describing is like any other red pill concept, at first it is literally impossible to believe, like you are seeing a world, the real world, that is right in front of you, has been for years, and yet you have never noticed it.

There is a psychologist at UCSF named Ekman who is a body language expert and talks about microexpressions, small, nearly instantaneous shifts in facial expression that reveal what a person is really feeling behind the mask.

This will often happen with promiscuity if you're good at acting non-judgmental to elicit the truth. From personal experience, intelligent girls are aware that their emotions usually get the better of them. That's why they are drawn to men with frame and like to make a show of adhering to social mores, to keep themselves in check. Lunos I was already typing this out and agree. Self-awareness is dependent on IQ and upbringing.

The human brain isn't made to operate in cognitive dissonance. It's good for a woman to know her crazy. But it's not good to constantly be thinking "I really just love my husband so much because other women find him attractive" or "I don't really think his bald head is cute, it's just justification for me loving his ability to make so much money".

It depends on what you define self aware as. I had a dog once that would sometimes shit on the floor and would then tuck his tail between his legs afterwards with ears flat looking worried. The dog probably knew what they did was wrong or at least knew it would displease me but ended up doing it anyway because it felt good.

Women are really the same when it comes to this.

They know that their behavior is "wrong" so to speak but they justify it somehow in their heads or more abstract possible consequences don't override those baser instincts.

This is why when you get into an in depth conversation about something "deep" with a woman they are pretty good at regurgitating lots of stuff they read on the web and academia but usually not very good at rational implementation of that knowledge.

Men tend to reason way more when it comes to these things. I don't know if this quote is correctly attributed to Aristotle but someone once made the observation that women are halfway between men and children.

Asking whether they are aware is like asking how your VCR works to use a dated expression. It doesn't matter how or why it works but rather that it works.

It works because of cognitive dissonance. Women are more emotional than men and so the phenomenon is more common with them. They make a decision that they are going to do something and then their brain, consciously or subconsciously, rationalizes it afterwards. Men do the same thing, just less often.

If you've sat on the sidelines and didn't approach, and then told yourself you were too short/poor/ugly or she wasn't your type, whatever excuse, you are doing the same thing.

If you went to a car dealer and walked out with a car more expensive than you planned what happened is you made an emotional decision and then rationalized it afterwards.

If you stayed in a relationship that wasn't working out of fear or for a longing for security, you made an emotional decision and rationalized it afterwards.

It doesn't matter whether you are aware of these things or not. You are on some level and you are not on another level.
