Man claims painkillers turned him gay
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/news...ref=NZH_fb

Quote: A young man claims that he has become gay after taking painkillers when he broke his foot in a go-karting accident.

Unemployed Scott Purdy, 23, says he was a heterosexual and enjoyed dating women before he started taking Pregabalin, also known as Lyrica.

But he claims he quickly lost his sexual attraction to women and broke up with his girlfriend of six months when prescribed the drug earlier this year, according to the Daily Mail.

Scott, of Louth, Lincolnshire, says he soon realised that he had developed an attraction to men and had actually turned gay.

He said: "I noticed my libido for women had gone and I was wanting male attention.

"I was with a girlfriend I had been with for around six months.

"I had never been interested in men. When I was younger I was a little bit curious, but a couple of weeks after I started taking it I turned around and said I didn't find her physically attractive anymore.

"She knew I was taking Pregabalin.

"I said to her, 'I don't really know what's happening to me and I told her I like men and I just can't be with you.

"She was relatively understanding, as understanding as you could possibly be."

Pregabalin or Lyrica is a medication used to treat epilepsy, pain associated with the brain, and generalised anxiety disorder.

Its documented side effects include loss of libido and mood swings.

Scott, who was prescribed the drug by doctors to treat his pain after he broke his foot in a go-karting accident, added: "I just think people should know about this.

"If anyone gets prescribed this in the future, I think they should know what this medication can do.

"It took me a while to realise what it was. I stopped taking it for a few weeks and that desire for men just left.

"But I'm on it now; I'm very happy. I want to keep on taking it because it makes me feel happy about my sexuality. It's made me feel very open. It's liberating.

"Pregabalin is also used to control paranoia and anxiety. It's made me so open and not bothered what people think or say.

"I had been taking it for a few weeks and I have come to the realisation that when I take it I want males.

"It did come as a shock to people. I posted it on Facebook. I didn't tell them the reason why but I just said to them, 'I'm open; I'm gay.'

"Currently I'm talking to this lad on Plenty of Fish and in a couple of weeks I'm going up to see him. He's in London.

"It's really what I'm craving right now. I want to be with him right now."

Scott had been taking Codeine until January this year, but has been experiencing negative side effects, so his GP prescribed him Pregabalin.

He says that it was only after taking Pregabalin that his sexual preferences changed.

He said: "I feel if this has happened to other people and I'm not the only one I would be outraged but in a sense not be because if I had known this was a side effect before I would not have taken them but now I'm happy.

"I'm not angry because it's made me who I am."

Lyrica is manufactured by Pfizer - the pharmaceutical giant which also makes Viagra used to treat sexual dysfunction in men.

A spokesman for Pfizer said: "When prescribed and administered appropriately as per the approved label, Lyrica (pregabalin) is an important and effective treatment option for many people living with chronic neuropathic pain, generalised anxiety disorder and epilepsy.

"The clinical effectiveness of this medicine has been demonstrated in a large number of robust clinical trials among thousands of patients living with these conditions.

"To date, the worldwide exposure to pregabalin is an estimated 34 million patient years.

"If you are taking a medicine and experience any unexpected side effects, we recommend that you immediately report these to your doctor or to another healthcare professional, such as a nurse or carer.

"The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) can also be contacted through its Yellow Card reporting system

"Patient safety is, and will always be, Pfizer's utmost priority.

"We work with regulatory authorities around the world to continuously evaluate and monitor safety for each and every Pfizer medicine through ongoing clinical research, analysis and surveillance."

If true this is really disturbing and Big Pharma must be held to account.

Most likely 100% fact, but I will say that Lyrica is nasty, I have no doubt it has many more negative results that are not listed on the label. Of course anal leakage and being a fruit are not high on the list of common side effects. That would be much tougher to explain on TV commercials I think.

He was probably doing suspect gay behavior before the injury. Now hes looking for a payday because he got addicted to pills.

Back in the late 1990's they started using different oils in potato chips that made them "healthier" to eat. One of the side effects was Anal Leakage.

I was prescribed a similar drug, gabapentin. Lyrica is stronger with a similar mechanism of action (I believe.) I did not magically have gay shit inserted in my mind.

This dude is just a fag. Estrogen/soy/etc are the drugs that turn dudes gay.

Plot twist: case is heard by a SJW judge who concludes that being gay is an improvement and thus the plaintiff must pay Pfizer instead.

I wonder if the condition would improve by ceasing the ingestion of Lyrica?

^ There is your answer. Lyrica is trade name for drug called pregabalin, which works on manipulating neural signals in the nervous system. Its used for anti-seizure medication, fibromlygia and neuropathic pain. Last time I check, you don't give it for broken foot or makes a man gay. Since this take place in merry old England, here my guess on what happen.

The "straight" white male, broken his foot. NHS doctor, that makes american medical student look like a rockstar, decide to not give him opioid meds that he need, but Lyrica instead.( You can thank the retard opioid epidemic for that reason.)

The 'straight' white male can't handle the pain since he was mistreated, decides to self medicate with heroin. Starts to run out of money and decides to be "gay" thanks to the meds. Now he is free to a faggot.

Look, sexuality is not a spectrum. There is no such a feeling for straight men as "being curious".

I was reading The Evolutionary Psychology Behind Politics and it linked to/referenced this article(In reference to homosexuality coming from high sustained exposure to dopamine). It does raise some questions... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2007/d...nce.health

Quote:Parkinson's drugs 'made me gambler, thief and gay sex fiend'

Graham Tearse in Nantes

Sun 9 Dec 2007 23.45 GMT
First published on Sun 9 Dec 2007 23.45 GMT

A French court is set to award substantial damages to a 47-year-old father-of-two with Parkinson's disease who was ruled to have been turned into a gambler and thief, with compulsive homosexual urges, by the drugs he was being treated with.

Didier Jambart, a French defence ministry employee, has been suing for damages of €400,000 after being prescribed with dopamine agonist drugs in a case that is being closely studied by lawyers representing Parkinson's sufferers in Britain, the US and Canada. Like Jambart, they claim that they were provided with minimal information about the disturbing side effects, estimated to affect up to 15 per cent of those taking the drugs.

'I could not have told this story even several months ago without breaking down,' said Jambart. 'I know of other dreadful examples here in France, including someone imprisoned as a result of their compulsive gambling, and of women who ended up prostituting themselves in mobile homes because of their sexual obsessions.' He ran up gambling debts of €130,000 while stealing from his family, friends and neighbours to fund his obsession. He even sold toys belonging to his two young sons.

Dopamine agonists, which mimic the mood chemical dopamine, are used in several branded drugs commonly prescribed for Parkinson's, a debilitating disease which affects some 120,000 people in Britain. In most cases, they successfully counter symptoms which include muscular tremors and slowness of movement.

But within a year of starting his medication, Jambart felt the first signs of what he calls 'a state of Jekyll and Hyde'. During the highs he began placing horse racing bets on the internet. But in December 2004, he made the first of three suicide attempts. The next year he began trawling gay internet sites for sexual partners whom he invited home.

'As soon as we saw him we knew immediately it was dopamine agonists,' said Philippe Damier, head of the neurology department at the Nantes CHU hospital. Jambart was given different medication and his disorders disappeared. He said: 'Without that, I would have killed myself or have ended up in prison.'

Bids for compensation in Britain were launched last month by two Parkinson's sufferers who claimed to have become gambling addicts after being prescribed Mirapexin.

The thing is this - many former gays who are now happily married report that they do have a choice.

Some gays are likely born that way, but since almost 50% of gays are sexually abused and a good portion stop being gay, then you might wonder if there are guys who are on the border.

Painkillers might have pushed him over that edge - of course our society and the tough sexual market including testosterone lowering chemicals and foods - also play a part. I would not fully discard his statement, though in his case it's likely more a cash grab.

There might be something to this. Not that a drug can “turn” you gay, but a strong dopaminergic response could lead to mania, which in extreme and rare cases could lead to disinhibition and a tendency to indulge in risk-taking behavior that was suppressed before; i.e. repressed homosexuality, rape/stalking, gambling, etc.

It seems far fetched but these few cases could represent manifestations of this rare event (I’m sure millions of people take this drug with no problems) and I don’t think it’s completely unreasonable to connect the dots between directly altering brain chemistry and winding up with some strange behaviors.
