Yes, Laura Ingalls Wilder.

She's the American author who wrote a series of books in the 1930s called "Little House On The Prairie" which were made into a very G-Rated TV show in the 1970s.

Anyone who has read the books or seen the show knows Wilder was writing simple family stories about the tragedies and triumphs of rural life during the Great Depression -- an event that nearly destroyed her actual family in real life.

You'd think the fact that Wilder was a pioneering woman author (pun intended) who wrote from a defiantly female point-of-view would put her in the good stead of the Social Justice Warrior crowd.

But no. Now she's being purged. PURGED!

From an Associated Press story:

"A division of the American Library Association has voted to remove Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from a major children's book award over concerns with how the early-to-mid 20th century author portrayed blacks and Native Americans.

The Association for Library Service to Children's board made the unanimous decision Saturday at a meeting in New Orleans. The name has been changed to the Children's Literature Legacy Award.

The association says the work of Wilder — best known for her "Little House on the Prairie" novels — "includes expressions of stereotypical attitudes inconsistent with ALSC's core values.""

It doesn't occur to these dimwits that Wilder -- like all humans -- was shaped by the morals and ideals of her time and couldn't foresee how people would be thinking almost 100 years into the future.

And no thought is ever given to whether the "negative" portrayal of minorities was actually based in realism -- as uncomfortable as that might seem now. Speaking as an Italian-American, I can say the portrays of my people as criminals were negative. And yet, looking back, a lot of us were high-profile criminals, so the "negative" is actually "realistic" if you want to be honest with yourself and not live in Whitewash Fantasyland.

It also doesn't occur to these people that the hysterical moral panic we're witnessing now is a passing phase similar to the "Red Scare" of the '50s or the "Satanic Panic" of the '80s. In twenty years, they're going to look pretty stupid removing the name of a legendary American writer from their award.

But here is the silver lining. Like the Moral Majority of the 1980s, the left is overplaying its hand.

If everything is a sin, then nothing is. Similarly, if everyone is racist (or sexist), then no one is. If a proto-feminist author and Depression Era survivor like Laura Ingalls Wilder can get in the SJW cross-hairs for something she wrote nearly a century ago, then none of this really matters anymore. This is a joke.

My ex-wife was (and still is) a fan of "Little House", whenever AMC or Lifetime would run a LHOTP marathon, she wasn't getting anything done that day.

She's also a bit of an SJW/Glass Ceiling/"women in the workplace" kind of person. I've got a good hunch she'll be triggered by this.

While my sampling size is limited, if this gains traction it'll move more women to the other side.

I was once playing a Call of Cthulu game set in the 20s, and I wanted my character to dress up like a dock worker/hobo; so I told the GM "I want to dress like an Italian."

My other Italian buddy at the table was very offended, and a 20 minute argument about Italian fashion sense in the 1920s ensued.

They have already gone after Mark Twain on similar grounds. So, it comes as no shocker that they are going after Laura Ingalls Wilder.

The real Laura Ingalls Wilder lived from 1867 to 1957. These are NOT stories from the Depression. Everyone is still riding on horses. They are from the late 1800's.

Now let's have some pictures of Melissa Gilbert, when she was in her prime. She played Laura on the television series.

The whole point of recording history is to learn about it. The military do it for reasons we all know and trust they get it right but these yellow bellied marxists want to white wash history because it hurts feelings.

In fact it should be welcomed how far we have come but due to this ignorance we are heading in the opposite direction.

Yeah, my bad. These books were published during the 1930s, but were reminiscences of her childhood from decades earlier. I totally forgot this and mis-remembered them as taking place in the Depression Era (it's been decades since I read one or saw the show). I just assumed they were really poor and couldn't afford cars!

But that makes the library group's removal of her award even more ridiculous. Wilder was writing about blacks and Indians in the period just after the Civil War -- practically the Dark Ages by today's standards.

The Little House books could easily classified as "westerns." Of course, there are no gun fights like what we generally consider a western.

They display a time and a place that the left desperately wants us all to forget. It was a time when community really meant something. People looked out for each other. Honesty, peity, and hard work were virtues. It shows the pioneer spirit, where nobody is asking the government for help. It was also a time when children were expected to do things their own and grow up as soon as they could.

It's no wonder they want to get rid of this.

When my grandmother was in school, the McGuffey Readers were standard. They are long gone.

There is almost a total disruption in modern society. Modern people (men and women) have zero -- zero -- real conception of the 10,000 years of recorded history before WW2. We are the first generation truly have no understanding of what the entirety of the human race understood in every nation, every age.

People have no concept of -starvation- as the daily face of the world. Every single human being, every society, every social moral and convention, was invented in a time when there WAS no government, no taxes, no hospitals (maybe a local doctor, at best) no immunizations, no travel beyond 10 miles away from your small town, no army (except in rare conditions), no radio, no understanding of any nation outside your local area. No railroads. The president of the United States and the king of England traveled on dirt roads on a horse/carriage, just like every other idiot. Women would bear 6-8 kids and 4 of them would DIE in the first few years. Growing old without a husband or kids meant instant, irrevocable starvation, or more being torn to bits and eaten alive by wolves.

ENDLESS, CONSTANT STARVATION was THE REALITY of the human race for half a million years, up until about 1900-1950 or so.

For women, "finding a husband" was the ultimate success, the only success. Without a husband, she and her children and often her parents were sentenced to slow, horrible death. No neighbor would feed them...everybody else was too close to their own starvation.

All the "oppression" that modern women whine about so endlessly was, in reality, massive sacrifice, of life, limb, pain and misery beyond belief, by MEN who were fighting to keep their wives, children, and parents from STARVING TO DEATH.

Modern women have chosen to re-define men's half-million year sacrifice as "oppression" because modern women are the most spoiled, selfish, shitty, ignorant little scumbags that the human race has ever crapped out upon this planet.

In Little House we see the simple reality of the human race...you either work, get married, and have children, OR YOU STARVE. Not a conspiracy, it's called reality. No big daddy government squeezing money out of hard working men and then then letting you suck off it's teat like a fat grunting Feminist hog.

That (somewhat embellished) is the message of Little House on the Prairie.

This is what amuses me about any well known figure from the past that soycialists promote.

If you were to somehow / someway bring that well known figure into the present from 1730 or 1830 or 1930.
Said well known figure would probably be appalled at the elements soycialists promote.

Gay marriage. Esp. with kids.
Tranny kids.

Body art modifications etc.

There's a legitimate theory (based on the study of ancient human remains and the world's few remaining hunter-gatherer groups) that most pre-agricultural civilizations did not in fact face constant starvation and typically lived just as long as folks in modern 1st world nations.

Infant mortality appears to have been high (whether due to disease or intentional culling of unwanted off-spring), but those who survived infancy seemed to live long, healthy lives.

When you're part of a small group in a part of the world where the land by far exceeds the needs of the population and you can simply move whenever the local food sources start to dry up, being fed on a daily basis is not of significant concern. Especially when you are comfortable with very accessible, high protein sources, such as insects.

People like myself (of a certain age) and living in the UK have very fond memories of Little House On The Prairie. It was shown on Sunday afternoons and was real old-fashioned family entertainment. Just hearing the theme-tune makes me feel all misty.

Even today, whenever one of the kids runs down a hill on a sunny day, the Mrs and I will share a look and whistle the opening theme music. There were only 3 channels when I was a boy and everybody in the country watched this show. It's sobering to reflect that no way would this inoffensive and charming programme be made today. To attack it (or its creator) is a low-blow indeed.

If they want to be really edgy, I think there are a few Islamic books that have been rolling about for centuries that promote blacks as "dumb like animals" ... that need a good enslaving.

If Steve is also reading this, I would urge him to correct the spelling in that headline. It's "author," not "authur."

They mostly pounce on a few sentences regarding Indians. The people back then did not think anything bad regarding the topic. Some Indian tribes were truly brutal attacking and scalping peaceful settlers. But that must never be mentioned in our PC-time since every non-White tribe was angelic and all the evil came from the West.
