Lightbulb World's oldest woman, 129, drops some wisdom
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...r-Two.html

A woman who claims to be the oldest person in the world has told of the brutality of her deportation into Soviet internal exile by tyrant Stalin during World War Two.

Koku Istambulova is 129 according to her Russian passport and pension papers which show her date of birth as 1 June 1889.

Now in lucid and deeply shocking testimony, she has spoken emotionally of the appalling day her native Chechen people were deported en masse by Stalin to the steppes of Kazakhstan almost 75 years ago and says the only happy day in all her years was when she entered a home built from her own hands back in her native land.
She married late when a man was chosen for her from another village.

'I didn't know him at all,' she said.

'But then I started to love him.

'What else could I do if I got married? I had to endure.

---

Kinda puts the shitty trivialities of my day to day life in perspective. I'm grateful that I didn't suffer any crazy traumatic events at a young age. I didn't have a perfect family and lost touch with my father in adult age but nothing like what this lady has experienced. She survived all three of her children and all other friends/relatives of her age.

I remember reading that one of the worst things about getting old is seeing all of your friends and people who knew you pass away. With nobody to share your memories with you start to fade away as the younger generation takes over and builds their own memories. Maybe such is the circle of life.

I find her dietary habits the most telling.

Like all truly old people - low caloric input.

But she also liked fermented milk, milk and various milk-related products - on top of mostly vegetarian diet.

She’s not on a calorie restricted diet. She’s poor and probably has no teeth Laugh

So she's been old for the last 79 years. Yikes.

I have to wonder about the accuracy of this. Records were very poorly kept in areas like this back in 1889. Some of these cultures barely had a written language at all.

But if she is 129 years old, then I would love to know what she has done. Good for her.

The great-granddaughter who is only 15 years old gives me a lot of doubts. If we divide the generations equally, that would mean an average of 38 years in between the generations. It's possible, but unlikely. It would be more believable if the 15-year-old girl was at least two generations later. It's possible that the author of the article left out a great or two.

RE: World's oldest woman, 129, drops some wisdom
Old people, octagenarians and above generally, tend to drop that kind of old school wisdom you don't hear much these days. My grandmother passed at 99 ten years ago. She and my grandfather were married for 65 years before he passed. They weren't poor, unattractive, nothing-better types either. Pillars of the community. The stuff she and I discussed on her deathbed, and the stories my mother told me about her youth makes most women these days look like the fickle whores they really are.

"He wasn't always faithful, and we'd fight about it sometimes, but he was a good man and a good father, why would I leave him?"

I doubt this woman is 129. If there's proof go ahead and call me an asshole but it's pretty unlikely- which I understand would make for a good story but it's likely there's some clerical errors.

There was a time not too long ago and even still in countries with no tech that people didnt know their real age or birthday. 100 years ago it was much more common.

I would love to speak with this lady if I spoke same languages. It would be a lot more interesting to hear history from her rather than books.

Eternal life is not the same as eternal youth. I wonder how active she was able to be or how robust and happy she has been for most of her alleged 129 years. This could be why she called her long life a "punishment from God." It must have gotten very lonely and boring for her after a while as she probably long ago outlived anyone whom she could relate to or share memories with.

RE: World's oldest woman, 129, drops some wisdom
I think the human body in present form is good for a maximum lifespan of about 120 years. In the history of humanity, at least as we know it, only about 100 people have made it to the 115-120 range. There was even a story recently that some doubts had been raised about the real age of Jeanne Calment, who holds the record as the oldest person ever at 122.

In any event, there’s no way this woman is 129, not physiologically possibly at this time. In 50 years with advancements in medical science and things like nanotechnology, who knows?

It seems so. There is strong suspicion now that the so-called world's oldest woman, Jeanne Calment, may have been a fake. I'd bet that this Russian woman pulled a fast one decades ago.
