Luis Suarez was the best player I ever watched in a Liverpool shirt, King Luis for me!

Lionel Messi changed the game with Pep's Barcelona. They've repeatedly destroyed Ronaldo's Madrid by margins of 3, 4, 5 goals..

Chess vs. Checkers:

Madrid is bigger, stronger, faster - so how is this possible?

Yes, Ronaldo is a great player and dragged Portugal to a EuroCup win, but he didn't invent a play style that forced everyone else to adapt to. What saddens me the most is how bureaucratic the AFA is. If Simeone was brought in, Messi would finally have a chance to win it all

Let's be honest, this is just a "Messi vs Ronaldo" thread. Maybe in a decade someone will be in touching distance of them but no one compares in the current players list.

Yeah, agreed. I'm genuinely sad that both Messi and Ronaldo have never won the FIFA WC. Messi's golden chance came in 2014; if Ronaldo and Portugual had beaten Uruguay in 2018, I think they would have gotten a good chance to challenge France/Croatia to win it all.

I will endorse this sentiment as well. Whichever one wins a WC first, if either of them ever do, will pretty much get GOAT status.

Great goalkeeper in his prime, its a pity Team USA did not have a proper supporting cast to help him for the 2010 and 2014 WC

Messi is just pure talent, however, Ronaldo rivals him with his sheer hard work. Can't make a vote simply because of that.

I'm Argentinian, and I was in Argentina during this year's world cup back in June. I remember the commentators on the radio saying something to the effect of "We (Argentina) have the best player in the world." I remember hearing that and thinking to myself "That's weird. I never knew Cristiano Ronaldo was Argentinian!"

Messi is great, but succeeded because of the Barcelona system he played under. Ronaldo, on the other hand, has better individual skills, and is a more valuable player overall.

Remember Spain in 2010 (which was made up of mainly Barcelona players, using the same style of play as Barcelona) won the world cup without Messi?

As far as the AFA (the group that runs the Argentina national team), yeah, they are pieces of shit. They had Diego Maradona as the team's coach in 2010. Fucking Diego Maradona. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about the AFA.

Also, the fans and sports commentators in Argentina put way too much pressure on Messi. I remember being in Argentina back in June during the world cup, and the commentators were basically putting the entire world cup on Messi's shoulders, and then they would berate him endlessly after games if Argentina didn't win. Ronaldo is the kind of player who loves the spotlight, but Messi is the total opposite. He just seems like he wants to be part of a team, and doesn't really like being in the spotlight.

My wife, who is from Argentina, said it best: At Barcelona, they (the players and the fans) treat Messi like just another part of the team. On the Argentina national team, they treat him like a god (and then they berate him when he doesn't live up to these expectations).

If I were Messi, I would just become a citizen of Spain and go play for their national team (although it's too late for him to actually do this, even if he wanted to). Fuck the Argentina national team.

Why do you think Messi is beta?

Have you seen his wife? She is beautiful. Also, he and his wife have known each other since elementary school. This means there is a good chance he is the only man she's ever been with. They have 3 kids together.

How exactly is this beta? Is it because he's not out banging sluts every night?

Ronaldo's private life is a bit out there, I woldn't qualify it as alpha. Solid player though.

As a Portuguese I feel strange to read your answer.

Most people in the football portuguese foruns/sites I visit daily all say Messi is best, specially the Benfica supporters because the hate CR7.

Honestly prefer Cristiano because a lot of things, but Messi is def on the same level. Two solid contenders for the football GOAT.

He's not a leader. Whenever he has had to be a leader with Argentina, he has failed. It's similar with Barcelona as they has Puyol and Xavi as leaders but since they retired, he has not stepped up.

Ronaldo is way stronger mentally as he thrives under pressure while Messi often chokes. People often blame (with reason) Higuain for being a serial choker with Argentina (he is), but Messi hasn't been much better himself in delivering in key moments with Argentina.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, is a leader and is not afraid to step up under pressure. Just look at his penalty taking record and his goal scoring record in the knockout stage of the champions league. Also, how he led his team from the touchline basically as a coach after going off injured in the euro 2016 final.

Messi is a wonderfully talented player and with Ronaldo, one of the best players in history. However, he's a highly functional beta as he cannot lead for shit and is very much the silent/shy type.

Oh and for the lols Big Grin

He's rich as fuck and one of the top players in the world for the last 10 years, having a hot wife isn't some huge accomplishment, it's expected.
