I'm in the process of getting a dog. A good side effect to owning one is that it forces me to go outside and it also opens a lot of opportunities to be approached by women.

Which breed would you think would help the most with pickup? I am thinking of getting a Chihuahua. I quite like them and they're small as hell.

If you're getting a Chihuahua, you might as well get a purse to carry it in. Not all, but most tend to be nasty shits.

Where do you live? What's your actual lifestyle? Lots of us can help you with years of personal experience, but a little more detail is needed.

If your getting a dog just for pick up, just don't. It's a badb idea and not fair to the dog.

My buddy has a great dane which I sometimes take care of.

I dress that big bastard up with a bowtie, and when I take him out there's no shortage of women coming up to pet him. I've banged a couple of chicks using him as the opener. I fed him steak afterwards both times, so it was a win-win.

As long as the dog doesn't look aggressive, and you look approachable, any dog will work.

Rereading this post I see it was a lame attempt to be sarcastic due to not having had my morning coffee.

What I meant to say is that to choose a dog for pickup is 100% the wrong reason to choose to get a dog.

A dog is going to kill your pickup more than it will aid. You'll have to take it for daily walks, feed it, take it to the vet, get up early to walk it, etc. This is a huge use of resources that can be used for other things including work, gym, socializing, etc.

Dogs are a good acquisition for someone who has carefully thought out the benefits outweigh the costs, but a poor choice for everyone else.

They're sentient animals and unless you can care for it and give it the attention and time it needs you shouldn't get one; certainly not just to pick up girls.

If you want a way to pickup girls with an animal here's a thought: volunteer at a no-kill shelter who are always looking for dog walkers. Not only do you then get to walk the dogs in parks but you'll also have a great charity story that's sure to tug on the heartstrings even the most cold-hearted of people.

I used to have a border collie. She was a cattle dog. Smartest dogs in the world.

I would point at a woman at the park and she would know what to do. She would run up as fast as possible to her and wag her tail and and ask to be pet. That dog also got me a beer from the fridge and she would piss or shit on command when I snapped my fingers. She lived fourteen years and it was a great fourteen years. I miss her.

After owning an intelligent dog like that , I tend to look down on other breeds as sub-par retards that carry shitty genes. Dogs are a lot like humans. Don’t buy the argument that all dogs are the same. All dogs are not the same. Breed and IQ matter. If you have no documentation on the dogs parents, don’t buy it. If you see her parents are from a champion bloodline with a history of working on the cattle farm and producing healthy offspring , then you are more likely to find a better dog.

Mexico is a dog's paradise. The only time I have ever seen a cat are some wild cats on the beach. Cats have been made obsolete by Chihuahuas. Having had experience with them, I personally wouldn't get one. However, you might attract women if you carry your Chihuahua around dressed in his little sweater.

I'd advise against a dog less than 20 lbs. Those aren't really dogs. A little dog that isn't a worthless cunt is the exception, not the rule.

Forget finding a breed that will get pussy. Any puppy can get you pussy. Pick a dog that fits your lifestyle and one that you can commit to giving a loving home for 10-15 years. I have a 7 year old cattle dog mix and a 1 year old lab. I live in a small-medium sized apartment but live next to an open space with trails to walk them. I also have the freedom to go home during the day to let them out. Don't get a dog unless you can actually train and care for it. It's a huge commitment, especially as your 8-week old puppy keeps shitting and pissing all over your place. Dogs are very rewarding, but it's almost a full time job until they are 1.5-2 years and fully matured.

But if you want a shortcut, having a corgi is like playing on easy mode.

Thanks for this. I get so much fucking shade and weird looks when I say I'd never buy a dog without a lineage I can trace. Some dogs are just fucking losers. All my dogs were either from breeders are trusted family friends who could ensure the dog wasn't a retard.

The one time my family took in an unknown dog it was the dumbest animal I've ever seen. Goddamn. It was a good-looking dog but it was clearly some sort of Pitbull mutt and just completely stupid. Imagine all the energy of a pit without the inquisitive nature.

Just awful.

A border collie sounds like an amazing dog but I imagine that's it's mischevious as hell. Not that that's a problem, but I feel like I'd need to own and raise a few of my own dogs before considering one.

As for dogs to get you laid: I'm a fan of Pitbulls. They're just beautiful dogs and have your back 100% if someone tries to fuck with you. Also they're not so large that you can't keep one in your apartment but you'd need to walk him a lot.

The only thing is that it isn't a casual dog owner's dog. You have to train them well from an early age or they're wild.

Don't get a Chihuahua, they're asshole dogs for women. If you're unable to fully train them, then well I hope you like things like it attacking kids and other dogs, and piss and shit in hard to reach places like behind your sofa or between walls.

If you have to get a small dog, get a Corgi or a Jack Russell, or any number of the mid-size breeds people have specified in the thread.

Don't get a big dog unless you have the space for it - getting a 100+ lbs. Dog while living in a 1300 square foot apartment downtown is doing the dog a massive disservice.

I had mostly Labradors my whole life. Beautiful dogs that the bishes love, but take my advice and instead of rescuing or getting one from a pet shop, go to a reputable and award winning breeder and drop $1500-2000 for a purebred; a lot of the inbreeding has caught up, and at least with a purebred you're likely to avoid the extreme stupidity and hip and ear problems the breed is known for.

The best poonhound I ever had was a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

But these aren't your daddy's Labradors.

They're good around kids and families, but can be wary of strangers.

They're headstrong and will always be pushing your authority.

They need to swim at least twice a week.

But aside from that yeah, they're familiar but exotic (more than one girl: that's a beautiful dog, what kind is it?).

The Corgi is really cool. Too bad I can't find any local breeders for it.

I live in a 3 bedroom cluster in central Johannesburg with a small yard. Right now I'm thinking of getting an English or French Bulldog.
