Recurring neck injury
So while I"ve been doing muay thai here I keep getting this neck injury that I think is a strained muscle. It is hard to turn my head or move my head around quickly. This lasts for like a day or two and then disappears.

I don't think it's a bone injury, which definitely would be longer lasting.

Has anyone gotten an injury like this before? I feel like fighters and football players probably have.

RE: Recurring neck injury
My ho's report neck pain about the same time the right side of their face shows swelling.

Used to I'd turn my neck suddenly and get a sharp pain suddenly appear. It went up the back of my neck to the base of my skull, and hurt so bad I'd have to keep my neck straight for a few minutes. It hurt for a day or so and went away. The pain was in the muscle. It was a period during which I was training a lot. It almost felt like a muscle spasm but much more intense.

I'd agree with a strained muscle, maybe warm up your neck more, toss your head from shoulder to shoulder to get the muscle warm and ready before you train

I've had trapezius injuries from heavy upright rows. It seems you might have sprained your traps. If I were you I'd take a week off and see how it goes.

RE: Recurring neck injury
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm currently just taking a break from muay thai and using tiger balm and muscle relaxers. The pain is at the base of my neck where it connects to the spine. I didn't get any blows to the head recently, so I think it may be from a sort of whiplash effect of not warming up properly and not stretching out my neck properly.

There are lots of quick and intense movements in muay thai, obviously, that could have resulted in this. I'm not entirely sure what it could have been. I have not been doing clinching or groundwork lately, so whiplash is the most probably cause in my opinion.

Bengaltiger, I have been squatting and deadlifting a lot lately....very heavy weights too. However, I did not get this injury until right after muay thai last night. I can't imagine that I'd deadlift and then, 4 days later, an injury appears from weightlifting out of nowhere.

Everyone - always warm up and stretch!!!

I read some interesting shit about how stretching is actually not good for you.

Unfortunately saying that is useless because I can't find the article
