It doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition. I think it definitely happens, just a question of how big of an effect it is. Hell, Hungry Men Like Fatter Women. If that's true, the 'hottie by comparison' effect is definitely real. Or if you get deployed to Afghanistan or a mining operation, I think your standards will take a nice slide.

The other night, I was at this whack event, but I started talking to these two Persian girls. One was gorgeous, light skinned, shiny eyes, probably cutest Persian girl I'd ever met, despite being 30. Surprisingly nice, because, as I discovered, she only moved here after her childhood and adolescence. After I talked to her, I gazed about the room, and felt a wave of despair. There was little talent before that, but after talking to this girl I felt it much more.
