Problem is this kind of humour doesn't work well over text. So you might as well just push for meeting again. Or the direct, assume the sale approach: "Deal. What's your schedule like this week?"

I don't see it as dumbing down, just social calibration. If you're hanging out with a girl who speaks French...and you've picked up a few French phrases that can get you by...why speak to her in Oxford style English. It just depends on the vibe you want to establish.
