Alright you men, Ima be in West Africa for a couple months next year, mainly Sierra Leone and Ghana. Background on me: 24 year old doctor, white, british, I guess 7/10 looks, possibly more or less depending on the girl as I have quite striking features (black hair, very fair skin, high cheekbones etc)

Anyway I am basically a man after Naughty Nomad's heart when it comes to girl; I like em dark and exotic. The difference is I'm not interested in ONSs, I want what I guess you guys would call a primary, and I don't club so I need to find her during the day/during social events.

Any tips for these countries? Outside of what NN has written I mean.

Note: I will be semi-rural, so not in the capitals, will this basically fuck up my chances?

I've spent a fair amount of time traveling and working in West Africa, mainly Senegal and northern Nigeria. I found that many of the local women were beautiful, sexy and had a very elegant way of carrying themselves...

However, I was never able to figure out how to get them in bed. The areas where I was had a pretty strong Islamic influence. There will probably be less of that in Ghana, depending where you are. Sierra Leone has a muslim majority but they are less strict than in some places.

Living in an African village or even a town is like living in a fishbowl. People will know more about your business within a few days of your arrival than you do! You will find the people very curious and also warm and hospitable, but it's hard to parlay that into women having sex with you.

Reputation is VERY important in these kind of places. African women have a real prim and proper thing going on. It's a trait that was both endearing and frustrating to me. If a girl were to sleep with you, every else would know all about it within a couple of hours.

Depending on where you are, arranged marriages are common.

Most women your age and older will already be married with kids.

A few of my co-workers had better luck in urban areas. YOu might try hanging around some universities in Accra. You should keep in mind that the sugar daddy model is alive and well in Africa.

Don't be surpirised any university students you manage to date expect gifts or help with their school fees. This is not considered prostitution there.

In the more rual areas, you might be able have an arrangement with a mistress kind of person, but you'd need to ask locals (be careful) how these things work.

But I guess you're looking at it from the perspective of somewhere there for long periods of time, probably looking for longer relationships?

I'm basically looking for a temporary gf, this is what I tend to do when I travel. Does that sound plausible?

Not interested in a mistress or golddigger, just a cute girl to share my time there with.

I skimmed some of Naughty Nomad's post. It sounds like he was spending short periods of time in the capital cities and hanging out in bars frequented by travelers and expats. The kind of girls who were interested in foreign men would naturally gravitate to these places. He mentions that his first night in Freetown several women in a club offered him casual sex. I find it very difficult to believe that if he had taken them up on their offer they wouldn't have expected something..Maybe not an hourly rate but they would have hinted afterwards that they needed some money "for the taxi home" or that kind of thing. At any rate, you said clubs aren't you thing.

In this part of the world "good girls" or even "normal/average" girls do not hang out in bars. It's just not done. The kind of girls who would be there would be on the fringes of society or possibly dabbling in prostitution. I don't mean that NN paid them cash. They could have been off the clock, but that's the kind of girls they were. Be aware that in many ways, sexuality in West Africa is almost like Victorian England. Women having casual sex and exploring their sexuality in any way are frowned upon. (things are looser in east and southern Africa.)

Remember, this is part of the world where women are generally expected to be virgins when they marry and in some places, female circumcision is practiced. Think about that and what it indicates about attitudes towards female sexuality.

Finding women who are willing to break these taboos is going to be harder in the rual areas.

And whether you like it or not, any women you find who are up for being a short term GF will probably see it in a transactional way, at least to some degree. It won't necessarily be X amount of money per day but they will expect something in return.

Areas with a strong Islamic influence will be even stricter. The place where I was most of the time in Nigeria had no bars because they were outlawed. Unmarried girls were never alone in public, always with a chaperone. I did know a few guys, both Nigerian and foreign, with "girlfriends," but they were university students from the southern part of the country and it was a mistress/sugar daddy arrangement.

Not sure what kind of program you will be going there with, but will you be working with local nurses? If so, these women will likely have been exposed to more education, Western influences and may be from the urban areas instead of the villages where you will be working. If they are not locals in the villages, they might be less worried about reputation and might be more open to what you're looking for.

I have been told that at least in Sierra Leone, people are not very strict about their religion and even in the towns and villages their is a culture of casual sex and promiscuity. But yeah I take your points! Thanks for the reply, I won't be interested in anything at all even remotely transactional ofc.

I approve this message, Cape Verde is the hidden gem of Africa. If you have a change check it out, it was the #1 vacation destination for europeans in 2008 I believe.

As someone who has known quite a few African guys, this isn't surprising at all. They're definiely much more traditional than what Americans will be used to. For that matter, so are West Indians.

Religion is a good barometer for this kind of thing. We know that more muslims generally = more sexual conservatism. West Africa is very heavily Muslim (has been so for over 1000 years), and some studies say that Islam is the most commonly practiced religion on the continent. Check this article out for more info.

I've worked with several West Africans over the years, awesome people and I can't wait to travel there. A work mate of mine from Ghana said that his wife never gave him a blow job in his life, we were all quite shocked, but thats normal there and in some places like Jamaica as well.

I think it has to do with in the bible, it says somewhere that sex is for making babies only (not sure I"m not religious), so oral is non-reproductive related, therefor an abomination?

Like Jamaicans with their daggering on the dance floor, west Africans dance very suggestively, yet seem to be more conservative in the bedroom than one would think. This is complete opposite of most white Anglo saxon types, who generally suck at dancing or don't like to, yet can be super freaky behind closed doors!

As a Jamaican, I can tell that this is actually kind of how I feel. Masturbation is excepted for selfish reasons largely (the biblical passage you're referring to supposedly refers to self-pleasure as well), but when I'm with a girl I pretty much intend to impregnate her. Sex without the possibility of her eventually carrying my child is lower quality to me.

Fortunately for me, there are plenty of women out there from cultures with similar mindsets.

Cape Verdeans chicks were the main reason I would hang out in Mass and Rhode Island. I don't know if I am ready for an whole nation of them...lol

Ya it seems like thats the popular sentiment in Ja, but then you have Vybez Kartel's lyrics, which are laced with references to all kinds of "freaky" (by Ja standards) stuff. Honestly, I'm not too crazy over BJs and the Jamaican women I did get with were so good at just plain old vanilla style fucking, I didn't mind not getting the BJ!
